Seriously! I was expecting this to make battles challenging, but seeing just how much of the challenge was just getting to battles in the first place was crazy.

You know it's going to be a good time when Beautifly is utilized the whole way through. Best part of challenge runs is always going to be weird, niche, usually bad Pokemon getting spotlight even for a moment.
Yeah! Unique challenges like these can really give normally overlooked pokemon time to shine, which is pretty neat imo. Draining and healing moves are gold here! Also teleport.
This is one of the best Emerald challenge runs I've seen. It's on the edge of impossibility right off the bat and requires very unconventional strategies. It's cool seeing a run that actually requires Treecko as the starter, and showcases the utility of several pokemon that are not commonly used like this.
Omg the battle with Norman was wild! The cherry on top, imagine losing to your son’s starter with 1hp and the experience of your fainted ace gives the starter just the amount of exp it needs to level up, and it evolves immediately after the battle. Incredible!
I love Pokémon challenges that involve the player or overworld more than a lot of others, because most of them fall under “Pokémon but [BATTLE QUIRK] makes it harder.” So seeing these are a great change of pace. Keep it up!
I loathe any video titled something like "Is it possible to beat x with y". The answer is always yes. Sillier things like this are way more interesting.

@@sarahwallace1103 I have actually seen a few videos where they get to the very end of the game and realize that, no, you cannot actually beat X with Y. It was actually pretty funny. I do agree that it's usually clickbaity, though. Like, yes, you can beat Dark Souls with a caestus. The caestus deals damage, and you need to deal damage to things to win the game. I've seen some creators call those "Beating X with Y" instead of what you said, and I think that works out a lot better.

I love how in hindsight, in all his RSE challenges he cycled through all 3 starters. He chose Treecko for this one, Torchic for the "everyone has Wonder Guard" and Mudkip for the "No Pokecenter" and "1v2" challenges. Goes to show how diverse you need to be, and how very completable these seemingly impossible runs are
There were so many points in that run that were saved by entering a pokecenter being enough to respawn in it, something I had no idea worked like that.
@@isaiahschmitt8680 It was probably a fail safe by the Devs. Emerald has of tone of fail safes to prevent you from getting trapped because it was easy to do in Ruby and Sapphire. For example Wally's dad give you Surf the second you step out of Petalburg gym after you get the badge so that you can't get trapped on Dewford without it.
Gen 3 starters are all pretty balanced. Sceptile is generally considered the best in Emerald, Swampert the best in Ruby and Sapphire, and Blaziken is the best competetively.
This would be hilarious as an animation, just a dude walking around, muttering numbers with each step, constantly checking his pokemon, and whiting out in the middle of the pokemon center. And he just sits in one patch of grass, spinning silently

I feel like this challenge takes on a "survival of the fittest" aspect, adding a lot more ambition and strategic finesse to the game. I really like it!
I love the way that it sounds when you can say "and we can absorb all the Pokemon on the way back up!" because it's as if you're actually absorbing them into your Pokemon like a weird amalgamation, using their life force to fuel your own.
The one type of run when HP Ev training is required to beat the early game. This was a stressful challenge to watch, but it was fun seeing it all play out. Healing sustain is crucial.
You should do a challenge run where you put all your challenge runs on a wheel and for every gym or similar milestone, you give it a spin to see which one of them is active for that segment.
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiastthe best way to do it would probably be to have a menu that allows you to change challenge at any point with only one active at any time. from that it'd just require the code from the other mods, I think. would be a pain for one person to do but not impossible, so it just depends on if someone has enough free time and energy to do it
Let’s go dude, your Pokémon challenge runs will always me (in my opinion) your best form of content. They’re just so enjoyable to watch while chilling. I can shut my brain off and consume.
I couldnt imagine doing this challenge in B&W 1, Skyarrow Bridge would be almost impossible. You’d need a pokemon with a hp stat of about 386 or a LOT of overworld-gotten potions

I know in general TH-cam favors shorter form videos but I really like the longer videos because although it’s still really condensed it feels much more like the whole game

A well made long or short video could do just the same I think.

Honestly very impressive that he was able to pull this off at all. It seems this run is just Gen 3 Poison mechanics except it's guaranteed to happen each step instead of after a few steps.
I'm so happy to see more pokemon challenge runs!!! They are by far my favourite content on the channel. My favourites have been beating Pokemon X against lvl 100s, and the videos where the AI was replaced by SmallAnt's friend.
I really like the fact this was indirectly a Grass-heavy run, considering it's often considered a weak type, but in a format like this its strenghts really come into play. Hoenn being imo one of the better gens for Grass types overall definitely helps too.

Actually, yeah. If he decided against it because Truant was an issue, then he could've grinded it up to a Vigoroth and slapped the Everstone you get in Granite Cave on it. It might not be as strong as Slaking, but at least it would be somewhat of an option for later fights I think.
I always love Smants challenges but was so cool to see different pokemon thrive in this run! Treecko line, Beautifly, Xatu, Kadabra and Wailord arent super common for these playthroughs so was great they ended up being MVPs!
I love these types of challenges! Where you have to think inside and outside of battle. He can't just use an optimal team, because if the pokemon can't heal itself then it's useless. So he has to build a good team AROUND the out of battle restriction. It's awesome to see how far you get every time

Haven’t finished the video yet but a good strat is probably to grab the wynaut egg since I’m pretty sure Wobbuffet has a base HP of like 200 or some crazy number and it evolves at level 20. It may be good to keep in the back as like an HP sink to keep from fainting when going though routes to avoid using potions unless absolutely necessary.
A weird idea I had: What if you can beat a pokemon game with only the first option to be pressed? That means if your pokemon knows Tackle, Growl, Roar and Sand Attack, it can only use Tackle until it learns a new move, where its forced to take the newest move in the first slot. If you use the bag, you can only use the first item in each tab, regardless of how useful or useless it is. You effectively cannot switch until fainted, and if fainted, you can only pick your next pokemon in line.

Haven’t finished the video yet but a good strat is probably to grab the wynaut egg since I’m pretty sure Wobbuffet has a base HP of like 200 or some crazy number and it evolves at level 20. It may be good to keep in the back as like an HP sink to keep from fainting when going though routes to avoid using potions unless absolutely necessary.
That was a really fun challenge with a pretty unique team to win with

It’s nice to see a run use Treecko for once. Most runs the starter doesn’t matter that much so people choose Mudkip for the meme.

A weird idea I had:
What if you can beat a pokemon game with only the first option to be pressed? That means if your pokemon knows Tackle, Growl, Roar and Sand Attack, it can only use Tackle until it learns a new move, where its forced to take the newest move in the first slot.
If you use the bag, you can only use the first item in each tab, regardless of how useful or useless it is.
You effectively cannot switch until fainted, and if fainted, you can only pick your next pokemon in line.
impossible, simple.
I know in Gen IV you can re-arrange moves outside of battle--but with the other rules, that'd be a bit wonky
