techthegrab i noticed that you don't like to activate v-trigger. you had full v-trigger and failed to utilize it. that kage also failed to utilize v-trigger.

Something that might be helpful for these replay reviews is to look at when someone does something random and super unsafe and figure out why they did that and what they should do *instead* of that. Things like Anti-Airs, execution and hit confirms will always be a work in progress, at least in my mind, so you're going to be saying those things *every time*. Better do to a single video covering those things and how to practice them and referring to those rather than doing the same tutorial over and over again. I think it's better to focus on decision making, since those things can be a lot easier to miss. Back on the Karin example, those random Rasenhas both happen over the same thing: He does them when he's too far away to do anything else, maybe he's trying to big brain read a fireball before Kage can throw it, something a lot of low rank shotos will do randomly at that range. Find things like that situation and tell them what they *should* do when they're in that situation. For Karin I feel like just walking forward and resuming neutral is the better option, but I don't know Karin well enough for that.
You are right. I throw it out when I'm too far and I expect a fireball. But it's just a bad habit I have. I should just walk. Karin has crazy walk speed and I should abuse it more.
@@kietey14 I figured as much. Got a couple of other thoughts about the replay as well that Smug kinda missed. I'm not a Karin player myself, though, so I'm afraid I won't be able to give you much specific advice, but I'll do my best. (A lot of this is going to sound like couch warlord commentary, but I'm trying to keep this strictly about your decisionmaking, not your reactions) 2:15 - Nice counter hit confirm off of the light on wakeup. 2:29 - I feel like you ride the C.MK button a little hard in your corner pressure. Remember that after an overhead connects you're even, so if he threw a faster button than your C.MK (a 6 frame button) then it's his turn again. It's also -4 on block, so if it's blocked then your turn is over, at best you're back to neutral depending on the spacing. 2:31- This looks like a panic sweep. It works out for you in the end, but if the Kage had used a different option in that situation it would have turned out differently. I don't play Karin so I don't know what would have been a better option at that moment, but I'm pretty sure one exists. 2:52 - This command dash feels questionable. I imagine you saw him backing up and figured you wanted to chase him down, which isn't really necessary. Walk at him and watch for dashes and jumps. Karin's neutral is a lot better than Kage's, no need to rush. 2:54 - You could have gotten more pressure off of that crush counter sweep. The meaty S.MK was well done, but I think you could have gotten more pressure if you could manage meaty C.MP. 2:57 - You watch him whiff a lot of buttons here but don't really react much to them. I feel like if you see a whiffed button, one of the best things you can do is try to bait another one: walk forward, walk back, delay C.MP, buffer it into murdering him. You may have also had a button long enough to hit him here after the fact. Way to live up to your name on that tick throw though. 3:03 - You just teched a throw, what are you looking for with that neutral jump? If you can't answer that question you should go into the lab and figure out what your options are after a throw tech. 3:06 - I take it you mistook Kage's C.MK for his Sweep? I certainly did when I saw this. If not then I feel like this is another panic sweep you might want to look into. 3:51 - *Biiiiig* risk, this jump. Feels kinda like you were desperate to get out of the corner, I totally get it, but with that much stun on you it would have been much safer to wait for a bit. Kage doesn't have many tools to open you up at that range, you could afford to block for a second to drain that stun. Chris Tatarian has a pretty good guide on defending in the corner. 4:02 - Looks like you were trying to bait a reversal here, not a bad idea given the state of the game here but if you're doing that you don't have to be that close. Could afford to spend some time in the lab working on your shimmies after a hard knockdown. 4:10 - Another random C.MK. I know it can be hard to build the muscle memory, but you've got a lot of better buttons to throw out when you're being pressured. Same goes for the C.MP that you try to throw later that gets stuffed by the jab. 5:35 - I imagine you were looking to escape a throw here with this backdash? I feel like you would have been *relatively* safe delay teching here. 5:48 - Same deal as 2:52. 5:59 - Looks like you tried to buffer Tenko after C.MK but it didn't come out, it happens. Trouble is that you follow that with a panic sweep. It can be hard to practice what to do in a scramble, for sure, but try to get used to using smaller buttons in a scramble situation. 6:52 - For the Kage matchup, remember that his C.MP is +3. It's not your turn if you block this button. Even if it was, C.MP probably wasn't the best button to try to reversal to escape block pressure. 7:21 - This jump wasn't necessary, again I figure it was just the heat of the moment and nerves, but the safest bet would have been to walk back a bit (and maybe C.MP to catch a limb if he presses another button). His pressure was over, no reason to get worked up. Overall I'm noticing you're also waking up C.LP every time you get knocked down. As you get into higher ranks people's meaties are just going to get better and better, waking up buttons is very risky. It's okay to wake up block. Hope I'm not coming off like I'm saying I'm a great player and could totally have won those games, I'm just pointing out places where I think you could focus on to work out your bad habits. Good luck in your games all the same!
Kevin Griffith thankyou for the detailed analysis my man. I’m looking to improve so all of this is good knowledge. The main reason I try to wake up light punch is only because the meaties in gold tend to suck. I’m trying to get better at identifying if someone is going to shimmy on Oki then I can for sure wake up buttons. But yes great into my man
Hey smug i just started on pc last month and i’m in super bronze, i main guile and been playing him since sf4 vanilla can you go over one of my matches my online tag is OnoNaah. Maybe you could give me suggestions on my gameplay..... been watching you play since you started with dudley. Another player trying to level up and smoke you one day bro :)
Generally you don't buffer charge moves in neutral because it leaves you vulnerable and with no punish opportunity if you whiff. So if your character has a motion input rely on that in neutral (for example legs with Chun). However you can use them sparingly in specific scenarios and set ups. For example with rog if you land a dash punch you can whiff a buffered normal afterwards because you have time to charge during the animation of the dash punch and you can still anti air if the buffer whiffs.
Can you do won for birdie my videos are up on my channel..I’m a Diamond but I have other accounts and I’m stuck in platinum lol I left the game for a min but idk how to get my confidence back
SMUG doesn't understand the concept of time. Telling the dude not to do Ressen Ha while watching the replay right now, doesn't mean the dude will learn the lesson later in the same replay.
Dude you just can't understand because you living in the future and Smug living in the past as if it's the present that's about to lead into the future but also as if the present is happening in the past and is also going to happen in the future when the past becomes the present. There is brains inside that flat top dude you must know.
do the motion for a special but don't press the button, so do the cr.MK and do QCF, if you get a hit press your button. Be careful of negative edge so don't hold cr.MK if it's not your button
An easier way to think of it instead of doing the low forward confirm, which is hard imo (I'm TechTheGrab), is doing medium punch and then inputting instant tenko (QCF kick and then punch) while the animation for medium punch is going on. On block or whiff, nothing comes out. But on hit it will confirm into instant tenko.
Idk. Feel like you're only disclosing super basic, somewhat obvious info. Talk to people about footsies, conditioning, and reasoning of WHY they do what they do, and why they should or shouldnt. Like if your opponent isnt watching his ankles. or if they arent teching, or over teching, and how to find out. How to know if they are playing reactionary or proactive. Are they checking dashes? How? How do i take advantage of this? When and why should I start shimmying? The stuff you're talking about, people can observe or discover easily on their own.(optimized combos)
-4 gap close move is not that bad in those waters. I'd say hes random sweeping too much and he can take a combo that starts from the air and finishes in the corner.

guide on buffering charges while hitting opponent with normals? like in terms of timing cause thats kinda hard to do
there's no trick to it, just hold down back or back as fast as you can after pressing whatever button
It's impossible unless u a pro gamer or unless u sit in training mode all day everyday
Why do gold karins want to find a way to always cr.HK.
I can get soo annoyed by that XD.
Most people don’t know that they can punish it lol. And if I space it well it’s free pressure and I can get v trigger activate
Can you do won for birdie my videos are up on my channel..I’m a Diamond but I have other accounts and I’m stuck in platinum lol I left the game for a min but idk how to get my confidence back
Check the art work I sent you on PSN
Is this game still relevant
Dude has no ex bar and wake up mashing buttons?
Coaching for donor$. That'$ $o $mart $mug. 🤑
I should have read the future like Smug tbh.
What is a buffer?
do the motion for a special but don't press the button, so do the cr.MK and do QCF, if you get a hit press your button. Be careful of negative edge so don't hold cr.MK if it's not your button
opening a door, if it's unlocked you complete the motion and walk through
if it's locked you don't complete the motion and walk through.
That's doing too much buffer my ass
An easier way to think of it instead of doing the low forward confirm, which is hard imo (I'm TechTheGrab), is doing medium punch and then inputting instant tenko (QCF kick and then punch) while the animation for medium punch is going on. On block or whiff, nothing comes out. But on hit it will confirm into instant tenko.
Caulkhead can you turn negative edge off in this game?
Hola smug
Can't tech or react to anything when the game lags like hell
phd
-4 gap close move is not that bad in those waters. I'd say hes random sweeping too much and he can take a combo that starts from the air and finishes in the corner.
