      One Piece anime is TOTALLY BIG, it outsells Batman comic and still going strong. it's been running for around 26 years. The fandom really care about the author health because of it. If the LA sucks, i dont know what will happen, it's scary just to think about it.

    Since you guys asked 😊
    One Piece has officially claimed the title of the best-selling manga of all time, boasting over 500 million in sales, a record-breaking achievement. Eiichiro Oda's adventurous creation has captured the world's imagination, elevating its status to join exclusive and iconic ranks.
    This pirate saga has outpaced even popular American comic books, reaching this milestone in the ongoing manga series. Remarkably, it shares this distinction with only one other literary work in history: the Harry Potter book franchise.
    One Piece has achieved a remarkable milestone, with over 500,000,000 sales worldwide, placing it among the exclusive literary series in human history known to have crossed the half-billion copies mark!
    To clarify, the only other series to achieve this milestone is Harry Potter, which accomplished it in 2018. Notably, Superman and other superheroes are not considered in this count, as they involve different authors, encompass various series and stories, and primarily include magazine sales rather than volume sales.
    The beloved Japanese manga and anime series One Piece made its debut in 1997 and has since solidified its place as one of the all-time best-selling manga series, surpassing 500 million copies sold worldwide.
    These sales figures even surpass those of American comic book giants like Batman, a franchise with multiple creative teams throughout its 83-year history. It's astonishing that One Piece managed to overtake Batman in sales.
    While Superman comic books maintain the lead with approximately 600 million sales, it's important to note that most of One Piece's releases were featured in the *Weekly* Shonen Jump collection. If these *Weekly* Shonen Jump sales were included in One Piece's total, it would approach Superman's figures. One Piece's achievement, comparable to J.K. Rowling's, truly demonstrates the global influence of manga.

      For example, Deathnote the 1st LA (Trilogy one by Japan), is actually considered good LA adaptation, then we have Kimi ni Todoke, Your Lie in April and Nodame Cantabile, which is still good adaptation but it's easy to overlook cause the nature of the story is kinda easy to adapted to LA.
      Then we have Rurouni Kenshin and Gintama that actually success in Japan Box Office, they are both a good adaptation that really following close to the original source, and understand what makes the original manga/anime good in the 1st place.
      One Piece is just that big globally, that when the LA success, it's considered breaking LA curse, even though there is several good anime to LA adaptation that already exist before.

    I’m sure someone mentioned it, but I love how tragically… “normal” Kuina’s death is. In a world with crazy strong individuals and strange powers, she died in such a mundane way. There’s no one for Zoro to fight, no way to get revenge other than to fulfill their promise by living his dream. That’s so cool.

    • @DarkTider
      @DarkTider 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's NOT mundane though. See, in japanese, the term "fell down the stairs", doesnt actually neccesarily mean falling down the stairs. It's heavily implied, by saying she "fell down the stairs" that she actually killed herself. Though in the manga, while we dont know yet, there are strong strong hints that she may not be dead at all.

    • @NekoHanyouHanaru
      @NekoHanyouHanaru 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      @@DarkTider Actually that's a popular fan theory and is not, in fact, true. There is no implication in this manner. I have friends who are Japanese, and I’ve also tried to investigate where this theory originated from, but there is 0 evidence that in Japanese culture falling down the stairs can imply s******. In the manga we see her body. Kuina being alive would ruin a lot of the weight of Zoro's dream.
      Also -- in One Piece, we usually only see the graves of characters who are actually dead, Pell being the exception because his would-be demise was published not too long after the 9/11 tragedy and with the unfortunately coincidental parallels Oda and his team though it would be better if Pell lived. All that to say that we've seen Kuina's grave in a chapter cover, and she can’t be Tashigi because we’ve also seen young Tashigi recently.

With the unique island structure of series progression each act gets to be a wonderment of creativity, somehow managing colossal conclusions each time. They're not even on the Grand Line yet, and thats the very start to the journey of searching for the One Piece.

I'm so happy you're enjoying this section of the story, because things only get crazier, funnier, more devastating, with countless islands, each with their own unique cultures, flora, fauna, architecture, politics, socio-economic situations, philosophies.... This world has so much D E P T H. The live action is compressed and cuts out a lot and rearranges some parts of the plot in the interest of making a TV adaptation for modern audiences, but captures the spirit of the characters, this world, and the series.

      Best anime? Nope. Calm down and let's not exaggerate. It's one of the worst anime adaptations ever made. It has pacing and censorship issues, and mostly poor animation. Unless you make money doing it, there's very little to no reason to watch the anime over reading the manga.
      Hell, assuming the LA keep the same quality in the next seasons it will be actually better than the anime.

      @@alfanscholz8663 I totally agree with you. Nothing is better than the book, the bible, the manga itself drawn by Goda. However, calling the anime adaptation one of the worst is a bit of a stretch, don't you think? Cause if you think about it, the anime of One piece released in 1999 when TVs are still square and boxy. Animation wasn't as advanced and intricate back then. Tho, I 100% agree on the pacing but it has the obvious reason which is not to catch up to the manga chapters. Gintama even explained that issue in one of their episodes. Not to mention, the use of repeating flashbacks to stretch a whole episode. Kinda curious tho if people would prefer the One piece anime having to have a lot of fillers or pacing issues.
      Again, not saying that it is the best anime adaptation. But it certainly has its charms and quirks. Plus, as time goes on and the further the episodes, the animation does get wild on key moments. Even tho, some people were disappointed about the animation on Luffy's peak powerup. 😂😂😂

    No cause you're right. This is just the start of something big. And I mean BIIIIIG. It's an incredible show.
    You were wondering if this anime is the biggest out there, and I think it's safe to say that it _is_ one of the biggest. It's one of the longest-running anime with a very big fanbase worldwide. The anime is running over a thousand episodes now and the fanbase is still growing. The manga has sold over 500 million copies over the past 2 decades. And what's unbelievable about this show is the consistency - the way it just keeps getting better and better. Most long-running anime I've seen would gradually lose its color as it's obvious how the shows weren't supposed to be long but because of fame, they got dragged out. One Piece was _meant_ to be long. And it's reallyyy crazy how it still blows my mind after a thousand episodes. It's crazy how people don't get enough of it.
    Everything is vast. It's like a world of imagination writers are usually scared to write because the ideas seem to be too ridiculous, but not for Oda-sensei. He fearlessly brings those "ridiculous" ideas to life without disregarding human emotions. And it works! It might look like a bright show at first, but One Piece covers a lot of dark topics as well (like slavery and racism so far in the live action). It tells stories that get people invested in fictional characters. It talks about dreams and hope. It talks about the beauty of life. And that's why One Piece is one of the greatest anime of all time.

    First of all, a little fandom speculation about Kuina (the girl from Zoro's flashback): in the manga, it is said she fell down the stairs and died. But "falling down the stairs" used to be an excuse in Japan to avoid saying it was actually suicide. Or maybe it's just the fandom searching too hard for an explanation to why she died offscreen.
    Anyways I think the live action captures the essence of the manga/anime very well.
    They do change around a lot of stuff, and they cut out a ton of background characters, that don't really matter to the narrative. But they have been keeping the characters vibes and the main checkpoints of the story.
    There's a couple things I like better in the LA:
    - a lot of extra scenes for Buggy, and also Kobby
    - and the whole "Grandpa!?" thing happens way earlier, which makes more sense
    There's a couple changes that annoy me:
    - Yasopp (Usopp's dad) was encouraged by his wife to pursue his adventures as a pirate and he left before she got sick, and so Usopp always kinda had that wish to go out to sea too. The LA makes it sound like Yasopp abandoned his sick wife and his son, and Usopp was a bit pressured to become a pirate, instead of getting ready to leave on his own initiative.
    - the way they changed Garp considering his attitude towards Luffy feels completely off.

    • @chadwood4412
      @chadwood4412 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This arc suffered the most changes, in my opinion. They removed pretty much all of Ussop's story and all of his moments of showing his bravery. They got rid of the village actually liking him, and pretty much using him running through as an alarm clock. Him jumping in front of Kuro to protect Kaya. Pretty much any moment that showed why luffy wanted him on the crew.

      They made some weird changes without really reducing the size of it.
      Even in the manga, Syrup Village is my least favorite in the East Blue, and the live action does not improve the pacing at all, but still cuts Usopp's good moments, and puts Zoro's flashback in a random spot instead of in the same episode as Mihawk, which would make it much better.
      I don't care that much about the moments, because Luffy still is a good judge of character and has a heart to heart with Usopp.
      Same with the Zoro flashback, it's weirdly placed, but it still defines his character correctly.
      But the thing about Usopp not taking initiative to go out to sea changes his character a bit and I don’t like it.
      It also makes Shanks' crew look a bit worse for having a deadbeat dad/husband in it.

    • @chadwood4412
      @chadwood4412 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Ana-cr8yd these episodes are where it started changing more and more from the original and having situations that don't really make sense.
      Luffy not wanting to steal the boat contradicts a big part of his idea of what a pirate is, just to make him seem friendly and lovable I guess?
      Zoro could lift an entire safe and survive falling in a well on his head, but a bottle knocks him out?
      Luffy questioning his decision to let zoro fight, worrying over his bedside, and things like that just slowly built up until I decided it wasn't for me.
      It's a great adaptation compared to others, but I think people were expecting such trash, something mediocre made them jump for joy. They got so much right, from sets to costume, but the changes to the story made the emotions just not hit even close to the same.

    • @chadwood4412
      @chadwood4412 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Ana-cr8yd also this made Kuro's plan make even less sense than the original because, at least then, he was gonna blame his crew after they raided the village.

    • @Anna-and-cow
      @Anna-and-cow 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@chadwood4412 I agree on the part about the bottle knocking out Zoro. It felt like they needed to put him in that well somehow to have the weirdly placed flashback.
      And Kuro doesn't come off as a guy with a good plan in the LA. But I didn't care that much for Kuro in the manga, still, they could've still made his plan make sense, even without his crew on the equation.
      As for not stealing the boat, I thought it was pretty neat. In the manga they go ask for a boat too, and Luffy wouldn't steal from Kaya because Usopp likes her. Besides, like this, they start building up Merry as a legit crewmate from the beginning in a way that is in the audience's face, since in the manga it only gets really apparent in the Skypea saga. Also, they don't attempt to steal their second ship either, Luffy likes the shipwrights from Water 7. Although they are pirates, the ships are always made to "join them" like a crewmate.
      I'll only say that the only dumb thing was Luffy's interaction with Nami discussing it, because they bet on nothing lol.
      As for the Zoro thing, Luffy does worry about him in the manga too, with all the screaming when he gets cut down. And the dialog before the fight is just to make it apparent why Luffy doesn't stop him. They just made it more apparent in the LA, so people would understand why Zoro becomes so loyal to Luffy without having to read between the lines. It'd be a risk if they read Luffy wrong, because he'd come off as an uncaring jerk. So I don't mind it, their characters come off as what they should be, everything considered.
      My only issue with it is that Sanji was not present for any of the Mihawk fight and the dream conversation. Those two idiots getting bloodied up for their dreams is what sells Sanji on the Straw Hats ideals. Especially the Mihawk thing, since Zoro gets massacred.

The first episode came out Oct. 20th in 1999, and as of now, there are 1077 episodes, and it is still going strong. In the anime, beating Kuro was ep17, so hopefully, that gives a bit of perspective of how huge of an adventure is still left to go. That’s also about the time where we find out Koby and Helmeppo we’re stationed together as marines under Garp. So that was major spoilers for anyone who hadn’t seen up to that episode in the anime.
    The fight with Kuro was a lot longer, and his whole pirate crew showed up and a lot of the hijinks happened. Kuro also, gravely damaged his crew in the fight as a last ditch effort to win.

    The live action was actually based heavily on the manga (Japanese comic book) not the anime. Most of the scenes, the character designs and sets can be seen in the manga volumes itself. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the manga, actually was very against a live action because he did not think they could do the world justice but he gave Netflix the green light since technology has advanced significantly since he first released his story in 1997. He was also heavily involved in the production of the show and all changes had to go through him, which is probably why it’s being received so well by fans. The anime was a 1:1 adaptation of the manga and it doesn’t really have good pacing although the animation quality has certainly improved in the recent arcs. It has over a 1000 episodes and the manga has reached over a 100 volumes now so if Netflix does it right, this could be a longstanding series for them.

    Oh they cut out the part where Kuina is talking about the struggles a woman who wants to be a warrior has and how the odds are stacked against her by nature. That's what gave the scene / their promise to be the best swordsman in the world so much weight imo. "You're my goal" is such a hard line. Also the fact she died, so Zoro has to keep that promise, but idk it kind of falls flat without the full scene.

    In the original story kuina “fell down the stairs” and died, it’s a known things that in Japanese culture falling down stairs is an idiom for suicide, however it was never confirmed some fans assume that kuina did in fact take her own life because she thought she wouldn’t be able to fulfill her dream because she was a woman

    The accident Kuina died from is stated as "fell down the stairs" in manga which is still ridiculed and hated by fandom. The reason it was not mentioned here is either they recognize it too or Oda actually been deceiving all and have a different story in mind. The stairs thing is still a meme in OP community

      Ridiculed? Sure. But “hated” is a bit strong. People die in freak accidents all the time, and knowing how to fight with swords doesn’t make the human body any less fragile.
      She wasn’t shot, poisoned, boiled alive, blasted to pieces by the Marines, or even devoured in a croquembouche-related mishap. Doesn’t make her death any less heartbreaking for Zoro because she fell down the stairs.

      @@kinggoldark3853 now worried about symantics? Calling it disliked will make the plot better?
      Also looking for realistic approach where birdman doesn't die from nuke or MC doesn't die will hole in chest or u ride ship to sky?? It maybe fine with u but don't try to cover up a lazy/bad choice of plot in such vital backstory. Ur personal choice is ur personal choice but majority still "hate" that part for their beloved Zoro's backstory and make fun of it instead as a way to vent frustration
      Neither use of a diplomatic word choice or some lame excuse can ever cover up such things. If it was so perfect, why wasn't it mentioned here then? Guess the show runners and Oda aren't as realistically empowered in their vision as u 🙄

    So just a small fun fact… the song that they play when they sail off on the Going Merry for the first time is an orchestral version of the original opener for the anime. It’s super nostalgic to hear it, and it fits so well with the feel for adventure as We Are finally a crew.

    For insight: Manga wise it's been #1 for 20ish/25 years its been around and the anime has been up there since the beginning as well! Big reason why it's underrated to the US is it being around for SO long and was hard to localize (4kids tried) until recently. Been watching anime since the 90s and One Piece is a gem like no other. The worldbuilding, character development, symbolism, and creativity is breathtaking. Oda (One Piece) creator is hands on with everything as well which is what makes this franchise drastically more fun than other anime/manga.

    Watching you guys react and have fun watching this show has been a blast! As a long-time One Piece fan, I think they've done an amazing job with this show. I have some minor gripes, but they're just that: minor gripes. Which for an adaptation of any sort is nothing short of astounding.
    As far as fan service goes, oh it's there. The best moment of the show up to this point is most definitely when the Going Merry is sailing off from the island for the first time, because the soundtrack accompanying it: that's the original One Piece anime opening theme playing in the background (I think it might be the one they stuck with for the longest too...).

    💜🧡💙 The fact that Vice Admiral Garp is Luffy's grandfather actually isn't revealed until over 200 episodes in the manga/anime. & yes, this anime is HUGE in Japan & has a massive global influence. It is one three animes known as the Big Three, which are animes that had a rising global impact at around the same time in the 90s & remain popular to this day. These animes are One Piece, Naruto & Bleach. I really enjoy the live action despite the changes that were understandably made. Also, Netflix has green lit a second season & it is rumored to go on for 12 seasons, which is wild.

    I’ve never met anyone who has started the anime say they regret it. The show is absolutely the same vibe, an even higher contrast of light humor and darker content. It’s only the number of episodes that make people not try the anime, but as you’re discovering the story is compelling as are the characters so the number of episodes doesn’t matter.
