The album came out the day I went to visit my ex to see if we could work things out. I bought it that morning, made the long drive to her house. We didn't get back together so it was a very long ride home but that album was released at the right time for me and connected with me so much. Having been a fan since I was 13 (I am almost 40) this album really connected with me as an adult. All of their albums connect with me in different ways. I loved their immature stuff when I was a kid, still do but the music they make now clicks with me being an adult as they have grown, evolved and matured and so have I

Their first few albums are so underrated. I'm obsessed with their rough, chaotic, funky-punk sound. My personal ranking would be; 11. I'm With You, 10. Debut, 9. The Getaway, 8. By The Way, 7. Blood Sugar Sex Magik, 6. Stadium Arcadium, 5. One Hot Minute, 4. Californication, 3. Uplift Mofo Party Plan, 2. Freaky Styley and 1. Mother's Milk. But that's just me. Cool ranking though.

I really like the album but John's heavier guitar tone doesn't suit him or the band. That's what John and the producer of that album were arguing about. It just feels forced and in my opinion it ruins the album not completely but a little bit. Blood Sugar Sex Magik alone is objectively one of the greatest, if not, THE GREATEST, Alternative Rock album of all time. This epic masterpiece marked a pivotal point in their direction, as they divulged in deeper lyricism with poetic and melancholic, yet hedonistic songwriting. Frusciante catapulted their songs with original guitar structure/composition, combining funk and psychedelic with indie rock-esque melodic sensibilities, and with Flea, formed a beautiful synergy that laid the groundwork for their subsequent albums, along with influencing funk metal/alt. metal, rap rock and alt. rock for years to come. BSSM revels in its artistic narratives and creativity, detailing the idyllic paradise of sexuality, spirituality and the conflicts between hedonism and stoicism an artistic statement. This lingering beauty is a monolith of music. OHM deals with the inner turmoil and nihilism that comes with a severe addiction to drugs. Anthony struggles with his isolation from his mind, as he desperately hopes to find that trapdoor to escape his asylum. The psychedelic atmosphere mixed with heavier undertones convey his hopeless state of meaninglessness; his fragile heart shatters and screams to his demons, wishing he could vanquish them. beautiful album was the breath of fresh air for RHCP, as they aspired, and successfully delivered, to make a melodic, summery and awe-inspiring rock record. Brimming with life and optimism as a contrast from the bleak, cynical atmosphere of One Hot Minute, the Peppers, with a revitalized Frusciante, created a swan song, or swan album, of the 90s, with a sense of hope for the future. After Anthony's success with sobriety, he pursues an idyllic character with Californication, as he records his travels and voyages of the world. Each track feels as if he's discovered a new place, with his emotions laid bare on those places and his sentiments evoking from said places. Some of the somberly tracks like Otherside, Emit Remmus and Scar Tissue were mature reflections on the past, and even divulged in a new state of tranquility in Porcelain and Road Trippin.' Hits like the clandestine cynicism of Californication exposed the ironic poignancy of fame as a mere charade of tragedy and disappointment. Along with epics like Parallel Universe, Around the World and This Velvet Glove, Californication not only brought RHCP back into the limelight, but also produced a plethora of the greatest songs of the 90s. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys the elegance of optimism and the rejection of materialism. One of the greatest Alternative Rock albums, and albums in general, of ALL TIME. By The Way expands on these ideas in a more personal, secular manner. Anthony contemplates his relationships with people as he tries to discover his purpose and contribution to the world. In this regard, By The Way is their most humanistic, spiritual and vibrant album yet.
Anyway, RHCP isn't as immature as most believe. Quite a few of their albums divulge into a deeper, more introspective theme throughout, and Frusciante's abstract, yet delicate virtuosity mixed with Flea's rhythmic sensibilities create that synergy in which Anthony conveys his messages. Without Anthony's abstract idealism and his bouts with his demons, RHCP couldn't be the band they are. RHCP is too idiosyncratic, heavy, and powerful to ever be compared to such miniscule acts. They suck the superficiality out of modern day existence, transform the energy into a spherical monolith roaming amongst the infinite skies, until the winds catch on and dance with the monolith, utterly destroying it into a barrage of light. That glimmering shine glides to all the creatures roaming this land, healing the hearts of the poor and raising them from their ashes, giving life a new hope to carry on with the river of time. That is the absolute reality of RHCP, that the world needs to understand.
    I love you.

By The Way and Stadium Arcadium has a whole mess of great songs that a few RHCP fans don't know about. For example in By The Way (Midnight, Universally Speaking, Venice Queen, The Zephyr Song, This is the place, Dosed etc.) and in Stadium Arcadium (Strip My Mind, Hard To Concentrate, Death of a Martian, She looks to me, etc.)

John Frusciante back in the Rhcp, used to really like the old material from Hillel. And let's be honest, it is for sure the best material to play live, it has a huge raw energy. Just go watch some live performances from 99 live Bizzarre of Anti-beat box band, or me and my friends (2006 version is crazy as well), sex rap, green haven in 1990, yertle trilogy...

Although I think IWY should be a little higher, I freaking love this list and the individual song mentions are great too. Tear, especially. That one hits you and gets you when you need it the most. There's a beautiful mix of melancholy and joy that makes the song one of the best RHCP deep cuts.

I think you undersold the first albums. It wasn’t meant to be the most amazing perfect music in the world for most but it was supposed to be fun and highly sexualized and raw as hell. They grew up in the up and coming punk scene and they blended their love/passion for funk music into their punk sound creating their own unique sound! That transformative time made them into the band they are today.

    My list goes as follows:
    01. Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991)
    - Absolute funky masterpiece. I honestly think this is one of the best rock albums ever made. Highlights: I love the whole album, but my 3 favourites are The Power of Equality, Blood Sugar Sex Magik and If You Have to Ask.
    02. Californication (1999)
    - Absolute Alt Rock masterpiece. A perfect mix of the funky sound of the past and the melodic sound introduced on this album. Just a rock classic overall. Highlights: Californication, Around the World and Scar Tissue.
    03. Mother's Milk (1989)
    - The production was troubled, but I really like this album. Their second most metal album and one of their, if not the most intense in energy. Some lyrics did not age well and the sound is quite dated, but I think the overall quality surpass these problems. Highlights: Higher Ground, Taste the Pain and Nobody Weird Like Me.
    04. One Hot Minute (1995)
    - I really love the Funk Metal meets Psychedelic Rock sound of the album. It may be their darkest album, musically speaking. I think it is criminally underated. Highlights: Aeroplane, Coffee Shop and Warped.
    05. I'm With You (2011)
    - I just love the experimentation of the album. Yes, an experimental album for RHCP standards, but still a new sound for the band. When I first listened to it back in 2011 (actually, their first album I listened to on release) I loved the basslines, but I wasn't sure what to feel abou the album. After many listenings, this album has really grown on me. Apart from BSSM and Californication, it has the best flow of all RHCP discography. Highlights: Factory of Faith, Even You Brutus? and Goodbye Hooray.
    06. By the Way (2002)
    - Classic songs on this one and the band went a step further on the melodic sound of Californication. It's probably their least funky album, but the good stuff is really good indeed. My problem with it is that the album is not well balanced. There are really great songs but also some "skip!" songs. Highlights: Can't Stop, By the Way and Throw Away Your Television.
    07. Stadium Arcadium (2006)
    - There are some stellar compositions here and a really good mix of all the different sounds the band approached along the years. It could be number 3... if it was at least an hour shorter. Double albums are really tough to pull off and I think this wasn't the best choice for the band. It's unnecessarily long and there are too much filler, which kills the flow of the album quite a few times. Highlights: Tell Me Baby, Hump de Bump and Torture Me.
    08. The Uplift Mofo Party Plan (1987)
    - It's aguarbly the most metal record they ever put, and as a metalhead I really like it. The production is still not that good but the songs are pretty good. The album is very balanced in quality, but there aren't many memorable songs. Highlights: Fight Like a Brave, Me and My Friends and Backwoods.
    09. Freaky Styley (1985)
    - Production wise, is very thin sounding album, but the music is far better than that of the first album. There are some boring parts, but most of them are really fun. Highlights: Jungle Man, American Ghost Dance and Yertle the Turtle.
    10. The Getaway (2016)
    - There are really good songs on this one, but the album as a whole is just... boring af. I think it lacks the intesity of their previous discography. Also, I'm not much of a fan of the pop sound they sought on this album. Highlights: Dark Necessities, This Ticoderonga and Dreams of a Samurai.
    11. The Red Hot Chili Peppers (1984)
    - I pretty much agree with you, just a meh album. Highlights: True Men Don't Kill Coyotes, Get Up and Jump and Out in L.A.

I love Blood Sugar Sex Magik, it just feels so fucking good, and the album as a whole thing has a very unique style.

Great list dude!! I'll always favor BSSM over all haha. Also, in by the way, I've wondered this. Is it pronounced "tear" as in teardrops or "tear" as in tear in the paper. "This is my time this is my tear, seems to me that this is no place for playing solitaire." It rhymes with itself XD. Also, it's Throw Away You're Television, not turn off. They don't want you to just turn it off, they want you to throw it out the fucking window haha. I've subscribed, great vid dude.

I know ahh I hate that I didn't catch the mispronunciations while editing but I almost missed my deadline for uploading this and didn't check as carefully as I should have. I'm pretty sure it is TEAR like tearing a piece of paper, but I messed it up due to having my mind on Tearjerker from One Hot Minute. Thanks a lot, appreciate the sub.
