    People tend to forget that copying art is a skill in itself as well- animators have to replicate the art styles of designers pretty frequently. I like how you described the “combining” of several styles. I also see it as flipping through a catalog whenever I have to make a decision in a drawing.

    I've been experimenting with which artists to study, and i found that i made progress extremely quick by studying artists that have styles similar to me. However, studying artists that are different give me more knowledge in shorter period. I recommend mixing in both artists similar, and different from yourself

    • @standard1703
      @standard1703 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's exactly how I've learned to improve all my life. The way Yusuke Murata sketches is extremely similar to how I sketch in both speed and style, so learning some methods that he uses by watching him draw taught me how to nail proportions and angles that were difficult for me before. It's one thing to blatantly steal others' work and claim it as yours, but if using any sort of reference or copying is bad then any and all fanart should be morally wrong. In the end it's about what's comfortable for you and doing what makes you happy

    Nice video but i don't personally agree, studying other artists' work is good to learn a new technique/process or ways to stylize and abstract things, and it should be obvious that those things are pointless without a good foundation first. The best way to actually improve is just drawing stuff from real life (or atleast photographs) focusing on proportions/prespective/structure or in other words develop an eye for both 2d and 3d, it ain't that deep but people want that quick route that only leads to pitfalls.
    Let's say we have the exact same person, but in Scenario A only studies artworks, while Scenario B only studies from real life, i'd bet my right hand that the latter would improve immensly more, in fact the former might still be an amateur even after years and years of hard work, ofc it would be best to have a split of 80-90% from real life and 10-20% from competent artists (and applying what you learn from studying artists in your real life studies so you retain the information by actually giving it a practical use).
    Tldr JUST STUDY FROM REAL LIFE, and only use other methods to supplement it, this is the best way to improve.

    I don't think the art style is important. The artistic element is more important. you can try all kinds of art styles if you understand light and how it works on the objects you see. Art style is personal, you should not try to imitate it as it may have technical errors or you get it wrong. of course if you work in a studio you duplicate it as a delegate. You learn of it but do not make it become you art style, the reeal is the best teacher. i am an artist and study many art style but i learn the technics and never copy anything.
