Das liegt auch hauptsächlich mit daran,daß wesentlich mehr als nur "Opa``s",diese wunderbare Traditionsmusik offenen Ohres hören sollten...Aber vielleicht kann ich auch nur nicht den Zeitgeschmack verstehen-kann schon sein...

It's conotatition as a christmas song comes from the brilliant german humorist loriot. There is a sketch cslles "Weihnachten bei hoppenstedts" (christmas at hoppenstedts) where the grandpa get's a record Player. And just as everyone sits down and enjoys their presence in scilebce and the mother remarks how cozy their christmas is, there goes grandpapa planung this military march

When i close my eyes, i can see the filled streets, with these old german buildings, the window sills filled with all kind of colourful flowers. People are singing, talking, drinking, eating. Beer, wine, the smell of sweets and fresh bread in the air. Or how about a good Wurst. Do you smell em cookin?

mein Lieblingsmarsch
an meine erste urlaub in Deutschland war ich in Lübeck. Neben die Jugendherberge war eine trinkhalle mit a "juke-box". Ich ging ein, wählte "Helenenmarsch" und un weniger als 2 minuten klappte die bierseideln in takt auf die Tische.

@@hansandhismp-4033 There is a famous TV sketch in Germany called "Weihnachten bei Hoppenstedts" (Christmas with the Hoppenstedts). Look it up if you want to know the whole plot, but anyway Grandpa Hoppenstedt gets a record player and immediately starts listening to this march, much to the dismay of the rest of the family. Basically every german comment under this video is a reference to that sketch, "Früher war mehr Lametta" (We used to have more tincel) is a common one

I personally rank Prussian/German marches as the best, then Russian/Soviet/Ukrainian marches in second place (since they're identical in bpm, rhythm, style, and they all follow the same principles)
