I think the designer should be rewarded for a job well done capturing styling cues of the past. It reminds me of the models I grew up with in the 80's and 90's. It's simple, subtle and beautiful.

Considering even a 30k car (GR86) has an LSD, that should’ve came standard on the Z instead of having to slap a 10k package just to be able to get one on it, or at the very least, make it an optional addition on the base. Having that much horsepower, you’d be crazy to not have one.

$39k is a dream. Maybe a used Z in 2 years can be had for $39k. Much like the base cost of a new C8 never was the base price.

Alex, a question/opinion request for you. My position is that on open public back roads absolute power has less meaning, in that "a gazzillion" horsepower does not 'add' to the experience when you are carving around a 35mph back road curve. I am thinking the GR86, with less power, provides 100% of the fun you can actually have on the open road. So do you think the extra $10k for a Z is worth it over an 86???

Not a fan of how Nissan did pricing. At $50k its overpriced and at $40k it should have a LSD. As a former 300ZX, 350Z, and 370Z you can see all the 370Z parts everywhere which is fine if they kept the pricing affordable like prior 370Z but they didnt. Car companies, and too many Americans have lost their minds considering the cost of new cars. $700 to $800 car payments should not be Normal. I love cars and trucks, but I just can't justify the cost. I will likely put $10,000 down on a $35,000 car in the next 18 months. I'm leaning towards a used Acura or Lexus.

According to Car and Driver’s tests, the 2021 Supra did 388 hp at wheels, and they said “Remove the driveline losses, and the engine appears to be capable of 400 horsepower at the crank”. So yeah… the Supra makes more power than advertised, and I think it makes more hp than the Z at the wheels.

The cheapest ADM (additional dealer mark-up) I could find was an extra $2200 and up dealers planned on additionally charging for the car. I like the front end besides the headlights, oddly shaped, and the grill looks unfinished. I can see that they didn't want to carry the silver rectangles all the way down, but they could've used black diamond plastic or something similar on the lower half. The rest of the exterior looks great besides that silver stripe down the side, detracts from the body shape instead of accentuating it like they were going for. Interior looks a bit cheap with all that solid blue, but not terrible. If I had to pick between this and the BMW.. I mean Supra, it would definitely be this car.

For all intents and purposes, it is a facelifted 370Z with an upgrade to 400hps turbo charge engine and updated center console and gauge cluster. All of those things are great, but the best part is it is somehow more of a value than the 370z. I think Nissan knocks it out of the park in packaging the new Z. I love that NIssan found a way to keep making the Z, making it more fun and updated but also not breaking the customers' bank. By comparison, the Supra is such a market failure because its value sucks big time especially considering the fact that it got the chassis and engine from BMW and no manual transmission.

    • @alwaysiyi272

The supra is a premium sportscar vs the affordable everyday Z you see here yet the Z performance costs 51k as much as a base 3.0 supra. Also, the Z4 which the supra shares its platform costs over 15k more than a supra. Sounds like a great deal to me coming from bmw buyers. You get the speed and comfort of a Z4 at the price of a Z

As much as I love the Corvette, I can't justify GM's ruining the V8 with cylinder deactivation. There are kits on the web which will circumvent the electronic nannies. But I couldn't live with myself if I ruined a legendary engine. The Supra is is a BMW with a Toyota body on it. I already own an X3 M40i. It's just as fast as the Supra. Mustangs and Camaros are in a different class, as well as the G60 Infiniti. I avoid driving past the local Nissan dealership. It has a Z on display outside which looks identical to your test model. I thought I wanted a Ford F-150 Powerboost, or an F-250 with a Godzilla V8. The new Z has wrecked my motivation.

The number behind the letter Z has NOT, and never HAS denoted the amount of engine horsepower under the hood. The original S30 240Z never claimed to have 240 horsepower, but the US spec version put out 145 horsepower. No Z car has ever claimed that the name was connected with the amount of horsepower produced. The number has traditionally indicated engine displacement, NOT horsepower. The 240Z got its name from the 2.4L inline six. Ditto for the later 260Z with a 2.6L inline six, and so forth. Your urban myth would have gotten Datsun (or later, Nissan) SUED for claiming the number was at all connected with the horsepower. This would have also been confusing for consumers when different models produced different horsepower outputs.

Zero to 60 is the same as a Stinger GT? Why? It has more HP and less weight.

I think a couple reviews are saying 3.8 seconds. I think that's more realistic for this one, though at 3,600 pounds it is pretty heavy really.

    Iconic you said?
Like the Supra - they could have used the 2jz instead of stupid BMW.
Nissan should have used a better engine than the anemic V6 -- they could have used the legendary
RB26 this year, then Rb28 next year then finalize it with the bang RB30 - it will sound better and mucho power !

13:52 I had a 2004 350Z Touring 6MT and put over 230,000 miles on it. I never had to replace the clutch and I drove it hard, fast and fun. These cars are very robust. Don’t worry about it.

You can get ventilated seats in a Kia Soul.
Infiniti(Q70) has amazing cooled seats. Z? Not so much. Deal breaker these days. If I was younger probably wouldn't care but I have had cooled seats since my 2003 M45 all the way to my 2019 Q70L.

I don't know if it's a "deal breaker" for me, but the price does seem a little steep for what you get in the upper trim models. On the other hand, if you want the base model that comes with the same engine/transmission for spirited driving and track duty, you are missing out on a limited slip differential which seems like the actual deal breaker. Like give us a featured filled grand tourer...OR a performance based model that has the upgraded brakes, springs and LSD at a price that's perhaps at $45,000? I still don't know though, is the 400hp engine alone worth the price difference over a BRZ/86?

I'm 6'5" and drove a 370Z a couple months back and had no problem fitting in. Manual seats in that one. Sure, it's tight, and actually bending yourself in and out of any low car is an endeavor. But I had a good inch of head room (which for a tall guy, as you know, is about all you can hope for). If you can find one to drive it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The $10,000 bump seems reasonable for the addition of LSD, leather, stereo, brakes and suspension tuning/shocks. Not sure you could do all of that (with a warranty) on your own for 10K. That said, I'm not sure that that is $50,000 car. Seems a little steep for a "Grand Touring" car that's a little low on luxury features?
