I was 10 in 1973, so this is a stroll down memory lane for me. I can remember leafing through Matchbox catalogues and racing cars along the ground in the playground at school.
Gosh. I had so many of these. Loads of memories flow back. So many hours of play with all these. I loved the rolamatics series, especially the ones with the bouncy engines or the pistons that could be seen moving up and down. How old I grew...lots of thanks for the upload from a French 51 year old kid.
Superfast were my life as a kid. Hotwheels were on the darkside. I had some nice corgi junior whizzwheels too. The old tod sweeny stock cars etc., Well, I say 'had'........I've bought them all again in the last couple of years. Got almost every superfast casting. Great vid!! Thanks. 😊

Pod koniec lat 70 tych miałem pierwsze swoje modele - szary autobus piętrowy z takim kulkami na kołach i lila-fioletową ciężarówkę wożącą rury (dokładnie taka jak 4:31) Potem ojciec pojechał na kontrakt i miałem już więcej. Zapamiętałem piękno metalicznego lakieru w kolorze purpury i niezwykłość designu wnętrz oglądaną przez żółte szybki, w PRL nie było zabawek takiej tonacji. Piękne były też obrazki na pudełkach, dziś jako ilustrator jeszcze bardziej doceniam kunszt autora tych pędzących aut. Robisz świetną robotę. PZ!

Matchbox had to kick it into high gear after Hot Wheels took the mini vehicle world by storm ! I was so into HW that I never even looked at Matchbox cars.... maybe I should have ! Thank you for an amazing look through that pamphlet ✌😎 If that is original wow what I find... I love old books & magazines that have some cool old ads ! This is pamphlet is loaded with gold ! By 1973 Matchbox was imitating Mattel's Hot Wheels. My childhood collection was almost entirely the 1/64 scale vehicles that looked realistic but this catalogue mostly has fantasy models in that size. My mom and Grandma must have been able to still find many new pre-1973 models to give me.
Nice one. Alot of Matchbox models I have never seen before. The big MX motorised models are something. I know the BM2 Ford prime mover, trailer, 3 tractors and factory set goes for big money, if complete.

Back in 1973 on our Six week holiday break - I was a poorly kid (asthma) and I was too poorly to go on the last day of School for break up for Summer holidays - Then a couple of days later when I was allowed out of bed I realised I'd left 6 or 7 of my best superfast motor car models in my desk ! - I was going to collect them on the last day - But I didnt get there ! - There was a few Corgi Rockets / Juniors - Mom got in touch with the caretaker but Never got any of them back !
I‘m a collector of the superfast models and have all in this catalog but there are a lot of variants of base colors, stickers window colors. So no one will have all of it. In this catalog there’s a lot of pre production models
Growing up in Europe, I had never seen a Ford pickup before, let alone one with a canopy. Then after traveling to Canada in 1978, I couldn't believe how many I saw for real! I was however familiar with the Mercedes ambulance. Pretty much none of the real north American cars were seen in Europe though.

It must have been around this time that certain easter eggs had matcbox models in them.....i ended up with four SRN6 hovercrafts.....was a bit miffed lol.....and the local barbers had a carousel filled with matchbox.
It was around 1973 that I lost interest in Matchbox and all their futuristic models and turned my attention to Airfix kits. Superfast never engaged me and Hotwheels left me cold
I wasn’t a big fan of sweets as a kid so my mum bought me a toy car every week instead , of course I was a proper lad and they all ended up crashed, burnt out, flying of bridges etc. My friends brother however was a little odd and kept all his pristine, in a box, never played with. He did sell them years later and used the money for a deposit on a house! Still weird though!
That was my toy box. Not a fan of those daft wheeled Yanky cars, especially the beatle with the Monacaled hun etc but little minis, Ford etc were. Nice . Airfix soldiers, hornby wind up train,
