Presentation of all Matchbox models from 1969. diecast Cars. Last year Regular Wheels

Today i present all Matchbox models from 1969. It was the last year of production of regular Wheels. Lesney was preparing his fans for the superfast version that came next year.

A lovely book. I've got a few of these My dad gave me his Models of Yesteryear Rolls Royce black ash tray. He never liked cars, but kept this ashtray, and let me have it, as he knew I liked it. It's still mine, and I'm 57 now.

Wonderful times. Would go back in a instant. The matchbox moter was amazing brought all you models to life. Remember putting the pin more to the front of the car and been able to have back end move !!!!

Superb. Love looking at these early catalogues. The artwork is fantastic, bright and attractive. The King size Dodge Chargers don't come up for sale often, and they fetch big prices. The Matchbox Motorway is a great accessory - apart from it is very noisy in operation. A one piece metal spring that runs at speed in a channel in the road. Many mothers probably told their sons to turn it off, or take it to another room!

Thank you very much for this new time travel, my dear Paul. I like the historical explanations of the "Models of Yesteryear". (A small calculation for the ROLLS ROYCE 1912: One gallon of petrol for 20 miles means a "European consumption" of 11.5 litres per 100 km with a capacity of 7.0 litres. Really nice, this historical secondary information about the models shown.) It's a pity that such wonderful catalogues are no longer produced.

Always remember having the Matchbox Motorway set and the service station as a kid. A great idea and good fun along with my Hornby/Triang train set. You had to stick the guide pins on the underneath of the models with tin foil if I remember rightly. Underneath was a very similar idea to Scaletrix and a great inovation for its time. A tip for anyone wishing to collect these old catalogues is to try the USA. Far easier to buy for a reasonable price compared to Europe or UK. Managed to get this 1969 catalogue from the US for about $10 about ten years ago along with Dinky and Corgi catalogues from the same vendor.

A real pity Matchbox didn't develop two separate wheel lines, namely Superfast (race cars and fantasy models) and Premium or Classic (for collectors and kids like me who back-in-the-day preferred realism over cheap, slippery wheel-axle arrangements).
