Very nice video. I grew up in Mexico City in the 70s. My parents bought me a lot of Matchbox cars which, at that time, were a little difficult to find here. I do not have them now but I have been buying some of them recently. Great memories. Thank you
My grandparents always brought me one when they came to visit. I still remember receiving many of them even though I was only 5 - 8 years old, more than 50 years ago. I look at those cars and remember my grandparents....
Love browsing through these vintage catalogues. Not just photographs inside: superb, colourful artwork instead. 6:40 the articulated horse box became K18. The Dodge cab unit was painted red in the sold model. The trailer was the same colour as the catalogue artwork - apart from the ramps, which were silver. The text in the inset page mentions that the older Matchbox are becoming quite collectible. If only they knew how much now!
Love the video & still have all my matchbox cars from 1966 on ! Also 2 old catalogs. Been collecting these & hot wheels as well as other brands for 54 years ! New subscriber. Thanks!
I used to cycle past the empty factory in the late 1980s on my way to work. These models were such a large part of my childhood, it was always very sad to see.
It's actually very overwhelming what you write. Just compare with companies from the queen's visit to the plants in the 1960s, production reportage. Something amazing how it once looked. Best wishes

I'd swear I remember having that catalog! I had forgotten about the Gift Sets; I wanted the racing one so bad - thought the transport vehicle was so neat. Think I remember having the fire station. Still have most of mine, some a bit rough after my little brother got hold of them. Think I had most of those shown in the catalog. I remember all of them!
@@PaulRestorer Its actually you I should thank for the refreshing of some very old memories. When I looked through the catalogue pictures I could tell which ones I had 55 years ago.
In my collection I have catalogs from 1959-1971. I also have matchbox coloring books never used and in great condition. I have over 5000 in their original boxes been collecting since 1960 boxed issues only love the artwork.
Still got all my cars and books after 60 years here on east coast of Canada, favorites include yellow 60 pontiac, pink t-bird, 64 pontiac, 58 caddy, XKE

Even though the little match boxes they came in are worth more than the actual contents. They were still a lot of fun even after I got my schwinn 5 spd apple crate.I don't think I would of had as much fun just sitting in my room playing video games.
Have the 1967 1968 1969 catalogs and most of the models from when I was a kid.A lot of the models of yesteryear also the matchbox city which folded up into a carry case with room for cars.Got a lot of them at the neighborhood toy store a block away.
Awesome. In Poland, in childhood, if I got one car a week, I would be the king of the estate. (in total I had 14 pcs - I'm catching up now). Best wishes
Inflation calculator says that 55 cents in 1966 equals $4.38 in 2020. Depending on the store, a new Matchbox vehicle in the U.S. is priced at 1 to 2 dollars. But the vintage ones were of higher quality and were more durable when played outdoors.
At xmas time back in 1959-63 my mother was buying them for me at 4 for a dollar at the local 5& dime. I used my paper route money and every week would buy as many as I could I am 70yrs. old and still display them in cases through out my home. Always held and admired but never played with I kept all the boxes.
@@scottouellette9411 I remember my grandmother buying them for me during family vacations in the mid-1970s when I was nine or 10 years old. I think then they were about 65 cents. I became interested in 1/25 scale plastic models around age 12 and built several of them. Around age 14 my mother gave all of my Matchbox cars to charity...unsure if she asked my permission. I don't remember playing with my Matchbox outdoors so they were probably in very nice original condition.

What did the British give us?, sportscars James Bond the British invasion in music( I always thought the British saved rock and roll) and most definitely Matchbox cars and trucks.Btw I still can't wait to see the new Bond movie no time to die.
Beautiful, no superfast wheels, regular axles, no Hot Wheels look alike fantasy vehicles. My favourite time is before Superfast. I had a jeep with the yellow rims, that I lost in the sandbox. I asked for a new one and got superfast. I was so disappointed, never played with it. A few years later I got another jeep. This ugly seventies mutant was pink and green. I hated it. From that time on I tried to get older matchbox cars, or dinky toys, or corgi toys, or SIKU.
