I smile every time you say Dicot. I used to live near Henley on Thames just a stones throw away. next time come England (ex-pat) I’ll have to take the family there. I’ve started to build british OO model railway here in Canada with my 12 year old son.
I like your videos very much ... I have used the same technique as you on my HO layout ... except that I did not use any plaster at all. I cut squares of newspaper and diluted PVA glue ... I cover the "formers" with several layers ... When dried it become rock hard and is still ultra light. .. After painting the thus obtained landscape with cream coloured "Latex paint" I used diluted brown and black "poster colour" to give the scene an earthy tint ... flocking to finish ... Looking forward of seing more of your videos ... Incidentally, I love the music.
These videos have been a great source of enjoyment for me during lockdown Trish, your attention to detail in everything you do is inspiring. Look forward to seeing you at the RC tracks hopefully some time soon!
I've thought about 3D Printing on model railway. Looking at people's youtube films there is a lot of trial and error, to make your printing perfect. Good ideas here, thank you.
Cool walk-through. Obviously, as great as 3D printers are, some will do better than others, in certain aspects. One always has to learn the nuances; and then sometimes upgrade. Cheers
Hi there, I recently discovered and subscribed to your channel. You've done some wonderful work this far! Your 009 modeling has me particularly interested. Your 009 Toad Brake Van is absolutely wonderful and a brilliant idea! And that little 009 Pannier Tank is great to. I went back and watched the episode regarding that. I have a fondness for the GWR myself, although I don't know a whole lot about, living across the pond as it were. But it is most certainly my favorite UK standard gauge line. That said, I don't know if you are away, but the GWR did operate a narrow gauge line called the Vale of Rheidol Railway. They built some impressive 2-6-2 tank engines at Swindon just for that line exclusively. As far as I'm aware. I highly reccomend taking a look at the VoR and perhaps my offer some more inspiration for your 009 ventures! Keep up the amazing work and can't wait to see more!
Nice progress on the helix and the little toad brake van is great👍 . Yes times are frustrating when it come to getting supplies at the moment, hopefully it will get better soon. Stay safe, cheers for now.
Hello Tris, great premiere. You are interesting and informative to watch. I always learn something. It’s obvious you enjoy what you do. Thanks for the update. See ya next time.
Hi Tris, you have to allow for shrinkage with resin and as it depends on thickness as well as profile it's always means there will be "test prints". Elegoo do a resin called "ABS like" and it's tougher than the standard stuff (not so brittle), worth keeping your eye out for it but it is on Amazon at the moment. The Saturn also has a monchrome screen which means it prints faster. Great vid by the way 👍
Tris. Lighting. ( My real job, when I’m not playing trains, is a stage lighting designer.) you can’t go far wrong with bright components. Phi-sigma electronics. When lighting buildings, especially. General overall lighting, the clouds in the sky work a bit like frost. Light comes from all angles during daytime. The HMI in the sky. How to accent a layout, a bit like film lighting, key back and fill. Bounce. Light doesn’t always come from One direction. Especially if you are using cameras. In LED’s if you look at them carefully, the little cup is actually a parabola. A bit like what is known as a parcan, or beam light in professional circles. Banks of warm and cool LED’s, mimicking clouds.. makes the railway look very real, as opposed to a factory floor lit by fluorescent tubes. Have you considered different times of day? Just a thought for you to ponder. Stick the wee modules on piano hinges, to accent the layout.😉🙃👍K. Llandaft 009.
Hi Tris I think your videos are very interesting and I find it very enjoyable I can’t wait till the next video when I watch I look forward to the next one I know it sounds very corny but I get excited when you put the next one up I have found a few ideas from your videos as I’ve just started building my own layout I’m just about to start laying the cork matting cheers for your fabulous videos can’t wait for the next one .... : 0) .... Great video again! Wish I had a better camera myself and my tripod. I am not looking forward to my hill work as I have in my plans to make a 25-35 feet worth of hill range. I still wonder if I should add lighting strips to my layout at some point. One thing I should point out with Resin printing and I am sure you figured this out is prints on resin printers come out still soft and are prone to warp-age weather it be during or after printing. It's never 100% avoidable.
Love the videos Tris, don’t think you should have to go over what you’ve already done in earlier videos, maybe a link like they do on other channels? Great job on the print jobs, look forward to seeing more. 👍
That break van looks brilliant. Almost tempted to get a 3D printer myself now. With regard to the light in the loft. Why don't you give the walls a white wash. I've done the same in mine and it makes a surprising difference. Also the paint seals everything in so you'll get less dust and dirt up there. Keep up great work!
Don't know what else to say after watching the premiere. One thing I thought of, would you consider doing a kit bash or similar for 009 or are you happy with RTR and 3D printing stuff?
Another great video. I know nothing about resin printing of course so watching your journey is great. I noted you had the flat surfaces parallel to the bed but a few friends and also a few items I’ve bought (including a Hardy’s Hobbies Bagnall at the moment) have all been printed at a angle to the bed with almost ‘stadium seating’ scaffold supports; does this help with surface stability, as counterintuitive as it seems? What little distortion there was on your van though only helped it look more natural and wooden in the footage. Had similar issues with brittleness on my latest project, whilst drilling holes in the running boards, twice snapped off a chunk which then had to be glued and sanded, and the same with the roof where it was a little distorted 🤦♂️
hi tris all is looking fantastic the little coaches looks really good just a note from my understanding the 4k screen has actually a little less resolution on the saturn than on the mars or the anycubic because the bigger area needs more pixels to do the same job as the smaller 2k screen the only thing is that the mono screen on the saturn should last longer and i know will print larger volume but the resolution will not be any better than your anycubic printer as i said probably a bit less resolution than your printer so really its down to the size of the models that we want to print i told you before i have the mars printer but i have not used it yet i hope that i will be able to get prints nearly as good as yours 'i'm coming from an fdm printer to the mars so i have high hopes fo the finished prints that is if only i can get the hang of the cad for drawing the models regards james
To be honest, I find it slightly weird that the terrain raises only under the tracks of the helix. Very steeply too. It looks unnatural. I would've made some smooth grades, maybe rolling hills, a mountain, something like that, with the mainline tracks inside a tunnel for that short corner section.
Love the fact you can design and print wagons etc. I think you have done a brilliant job with the brake van. Can I ask what the piece of music is at 05:02 please. Looking forward to more on the 009, would love to build one myself. Thank you

Hi tris, the blue knife, is it a handle or a covering and is it swan? I have been looking for these for ages! My fingers go numb when I use scalpels. All the best Anthony.
Thanks for answering Tris... Hope you are well... Love your work and your videos... not knowing what your going to do next really adds to the fun... I too shaved my head and beard for charity some time ago...it was for Cancer Research and before Covid....it was my beard I missed the most...wear your naked face with pride....
Gareth Jones well done on you to do that! I’m enjoying having less hair now it’s very refreshing for me so I can understand why people like it short. I enjoy doing lots of different things as I like variation and would get bored myself if I focused on one thing too much 😁

I'm more of a Southern fan as I live in that area. I do like your scalpel handle. Is that a Swan Merton one?
Yes thats right they are very nice to hold!

Brilliant will you be making 00 3d stuff to sell like budget model railways?
I don’t know maybe in the future who knows 😊
Don't know what else to say after watching the premiere. One thing I thought of, would you consider doing a kit bash or similar for 009 or are you happy with RTR and 3D printing stuff?
I think it’s great! I’m not sure the lettering is quite to scale with either oo or oo9, though I’m reluctant to critique given I’m a start up!
Wow that's pretty impressive, I only raised the possibility of a Toadlet on episode 36!
2 years ago now, but maybe one of your brake van bodies could be used for a lineside shack, less the chassis?
Try printing off of vertical so that say the wagon is not flat on the build plate or parallel to the edge of the build plate.

Why do you use toilet paper on your layout in such dire times
Randomowe Filmy ha ha it was plaster of Paris roll.
