Making a Colourful Summer Bear Paw QUILT! Tiny Pieces!

- I made my own Bear Paw quilt after the visit from Chris English where he showed me his spectacular entry for The Festival of Quilts, but I chose to make mine really small and they were a bit too fiddly to be honest, so I stopped when I got to 25 blocks. In this video I'll show you how I sashed these blocks and made a small quilt that might be a picnic blanket if ever we get picnic weather!
Some of these fabrics are Heather Ross and some are Free Spirit, the solid green is Sour Apple from Kona. I love how colourful it looks! I won't be working with pieces that tiny for a long time though!
It really is the support from my lovely Patrons that allows me to keep this show on the road and I am very grateful to each one of you!

Anytime I'm stressed, anxious or just plain annoyed! All of those feelings disappear when I watch and listen to you. Thank you for being the calm in the storms of life. ❤ x
You captured exactly how I feel too about Kate. X
I read in a really old quilting book, that when you don't know what color setting or sashing to use -- use pink. I've followed that advice several times and I've been very pleased.😊 I need to add lime green to that quote.
@@melodied4314that’s very interesting, thanks ❤️😁🌹
@@WeediflowerCreations. Me too. Kate’s videos are not only informative but so pleasing and relaxing to watch.
Hi Kate, your channel is a new discovery for me and I absolutely love it. Your presentation and the music you choose is just perfect, I find this channel a little oasis in a chaotic and sometimes frightening world. Thank you for bringing us all a craft that is so inspiring.
The quality of this video is outstanding. Music not too jarring or loud. Not continuous. Kudos to your DIL. Kate you are always brilliant ❤
Hi Kate I absolutely LLUVyour Bear Claw Quilt.i too luv colour and this Quilt definetly has that! I'd use it as a comfy lap Quilt keep me happy.take care dear Kate.thank you.Pauline.x
Hi Kate! About 4 years ago as a newbie to TH-cam, I was searching "quilting" and discovered your channel. I was immediately and completely hooked! I binge watched for days. I absolutely love watching you and your quilting projects💕 This quilt is beautiful and the backing is just perfect! I fondly remember sweet Norma (and your other kitties) and was so happy to see Cat Rita lovingly at home on the new quilt🥰 Thank you for your love of color and quilting and for sharing with us!
My experience with Kate is much the same as yours. Her channel has just exploded since then. I miss Norma and the way she came running when Kate said “Hello TH-cam friends”. So cute. I loved seeing the hens and Eileen back then. Kate’s channel is still my favorite and every post is a delight.
You are absolutely righ❤t@@vickyh7881
I was looking for 'hexies' 2 1/2 years ago when I found Kate's channel. She was working on Agnes's quilt, and I thought, Oh, how striking! with them sewn in individually, instead of the typical flower motif. I'm doing mine in diamonds, but the outer edge may be a mix.
Love the assortment of her activities l, and her interactions with her family, friends, and course, her kitties.
Bear paws🐾 Yes. but I also see a beautiful flower meadow! 🌼🌸🏵🍀
Don’t forget we are all on the “lime green sofa”. I love being on the sofa with friends from all over the world 💙💜💚💚💚

Oh Kate i dont think you realize just how much your calm demeanor and beautiful creations are needed in this crazy world today! You are truly more healing to so many than you'll ever know!! ❤
Absolutely well said.
I thought the chain piecing cutter was so nifty that I showed my husband a picture off Amazon. He said, ‘I can make that!’ With his 3D printer and laser cutter, he made one in a day. I use it all the time. Thanks Kate.
I've so enjoyed watching you make this quilt Kate, I love your relaxed aproach to everything, its just how quilting is meant to be.
Who else would make bear claws out of hot pink and lime green! So cheerful and fun. I hope one day the grandkids will be tucking their own children in with some of the lovely quilts you've made. I have a knitted afghan my Aunt made as a small child. Dolly sized, it's well over 100 years old and I hope to pass it down too. These things are treasures.
I so agree with Mrsstick. I discovered you 2 years ago when both my husband and I had Covid, fairly seriously, and spent about a month getting over it. We even had to isolate from each other within our house for about 10 days. So, in the guest room I discovered your channel and watched you every night before going to sleep. What treat. I have become very attached to your program and you. Thank you for all you give all of your viewers. You are a special person Kate and so creative.
Thank you for having us...it's yet another beautiful quilt...and as always gives not just me but other yet more inspiration. Also lovely to see Rita cat...just like Walter my gorgeous cat, loves testing out a quilt in the making.Take care...love to you all on the lime green sofa.x
Thank you so much!
Thank you for showing us this.
Kate, I just knew you would choose green.💚 It is beautiful. You may be glad of this in the winter when it's very cold and us pensioners can't afford to heat our homes.🥶 We shall all be wrapped up in beautiful quilts. 💚🏴🇬🇧
I admire how you take on a new challenge! Each new project has its own challenges, don't they? When designing the back, you realized that the more enormous bear claws would require some maths. You plunged ahead and got it done. How rewarding that must feel; good on you, Kate! The finished quilt is wonderfully colorful!
thank you! x x x
The green matches your lime green couch. I believe your cat has decided it's his blanket. Beautiful work.
I just read the article about you, and loved it! I had no idea that you had a change in your status years ago. However, what a success story you have as you used your mind, skills & talents to rise to the top of your businesses. I see how things evolved with a nod from Arne & Carlos. The Pandemic made us turn to TH-cam to see how people around the world were coping. Brava, Kate! You are amazing!
That’s a beautiful quilt! I love the green, it’s fresh and shows off the blocks. It’s truly a pleasure to be invited into your world.
I love "fiddlely" projects.
Your choice of colors is cheerful and interesting.
Quilt on, dear Kate!
Dear Kate Thank you so so much. For you insparation, your calmness, the background music, the joy of the colorpallet. Thank you for everyting you give us ❤
I love everything you do. The universe is a better place because of you and the talent and love you send out to all of us❤
My mum would have LOVED your channel! We made lots of quilts together. She is gone almost 20 years now.....
God bless your mum ❤❤❤
I like the Bear Paw Quilt with the green sashing. Somehow it seems right for a Bear. After all these unique animals live in the forest.
That is way too precious to have the kids use it on picnics.
Teach them to appreciate and treasure your hand work, so they won’t regret later in life.
Beautiful quilt ❤️🥰
Just beautiful, Kate. The green really compliments the bear paws. Enjoyed watching this quilt evolve.
Brave lady for choosing that green! Brilliant choice we can see now. I need to be bolder in my color choices.
This quilt has a feel of an Hawaiian quikt.
Kate once again absolutely BEAUTIFUL. So Amazingly Talented 👍❤👍❤👍❤👍❤
It is so funny to hear a quilter who does quite a lot of little hex paper piecing say that a few hst's are fiddly! Just proves once again that everything is so personal. I'm so glad we're all unique!!! I didn't think that I would like to green sashing, but I DO! MAKES A GREAT picnic quilt!
Ой какой большой ручной труд! Это подвиг 🏅
Love the bear paw quilt Kate and it looks loose Cat Rita does too❤
I always enjoy spending time with you. Thank you for spending time with me my TH-cam Friend🤗♥️
I would never in a million years have picked that green, but I love it! You are teaching me to think out of the box!
Kate this is precious!! A nice cozy lap quilt!!👏👏👏🥰
I didn't think the green would work either, it looks so good. What I really like about your channel, it is real, and you don't talk rubbish. The music is very inspiring too. ❤
Love it! I am 65 and have been a sewer for most of my life. I started making Barbie doll cloths when I was about 9 or 10, at home with my mom, she says she was so surprised I could sew Barbie clothes, lol. Have sewn my own cloths since my teens, made my wedding dress and a couple of my brides maids dresses. Then I starting sewing for people and making a bit of money. Then had kids and sewed more, lol. Then grand kids! I have slowed down a bit now but after watching Kate I am thinking that if I start now maybe I could make a quilt for each of our 3 kids to have when I am gone. Or each of the 3 grands. Anyways, thank you for the inspiration. Keeping my finger crossed, lol.
So beautiful Kate! Your quilts are always so whimsical and bright!❤
Beautiful quilt! You are so inspiring!
JOYFUL to observe…..color and bling …I love the reality of the first showing a bit crackly looking…..I so appreciate the waste not want mentality……either the sofa or picnic……I say both!
Love that sour apple colour choice 😊.
We're so spoiled...a 'home' and 'garden' video nearly back to back! Speaking of back - the back of this quilt is absolutely glorious! [so is the front, but the back is a bit unexpected].
Kate, I watch your videos every day. I really enjoy you and look forward to your videos. You are delightful. It's funny because I use my boyfriend's computer and he's always fussing about your videos popping up all the time. LOL
Thankyou from nz because of you I went to a patchwork course with a friend ,met lovely like minded people in my area.
So enjoying sewing again xx
I love this quilt. I also love 💚
The longer I watch you the more I like your green fabrics.
Hello I just wanted to say I’m so glad your channel came up on my TH-cam recommended. I’ve started binge watching in the afternoons now ❤️ my husband sadly passed away a year ago and watching you have re lit my love again of quilting, so much so that I'm going to make a start on making my husbands t shirts into a memory quilt x
that is a wonderful idea! thank you! take care xxx
Your videos are like a cup of tea, in a fine, bone china cup, sitting in the shade, on a summer day :)
That’s such a pretty quilt. 🙋🏼♀️💕
Why do I feel a sense of accomplishment by watching you make a quilt?
It’s lovely! Thanks for sharing your thought process as well! ❤
I really thought you were wrong in picking that apple green but I was WRONG! The green is perfect!
I thought the exact same thing, like, “no, Kate, pick something like grey”, but the green is GREAT and looks amazing! I should have trusted Kates choice!
Same, I was glad she picked green instead of pink.
Wowww omg omg it’s wonderful ❤
This quilt is so lovely. Love the idea for the four big patches on the back. You are a wonderful creator with more patience than I could ever have. Thanks for sharing your handiwork with us!
You are absolutely amazing!!!
Your idea for the back of the quilt is awesome! The colors are singing straight to my soul!
♥️👍🤩
Pretty kitty. Also lovely quilt.
I love the smaller version of the bear claw. It’s more relaxing to look at.
Your green sashing is delightful!
Oh, I think the green will be wonderful!
Very nice. Lovely motif and color choices.
So many comments! Cause everyone loves what you do. Maybe you don't need another, but oh well. I love your summer quilt! The colors make my heart happy! What a joy to work with the fabrics, the patterns, the colors, the geometry of quilts! Starting to feel cooler outside here in Utah. Your quilt is like looking out at my backyard at the green grass still holding onto summer days. The grass will fade but your quilt will stay bright. Just wonderful. It's nice to "visit" your place. i learned to love hexies from you. Thanks!
Thank you! I love seeing all comments and connecting with each of you! x x x
That is beautiful. Love it.
I'm loving sitting on the lime green couch with your apple green bear paws quilt!
a lovely project! love to your team xoxo

Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦 love this quilt
I know there are quiet a lot of us from South Africa that love to watch Kate and all her amazing, beautiful quilt projects and ideas❤
Iets so beautiful, love it,thank you Kate for youre idea s🌹
Oh 😂😂 I can see the error!!! I love it! It makes the quilt design more clever! ❤
It took a second time watching this episode before I spotted the ‘error’. It actually looks intentional, and I doubt most people would think it wasn’t🤗
What is it? I’ve watched twice and I can’t figure it out 😮
@@marydonald-abair2889🥰 stop the video at 22.27. The odd block is in the right bottom corner. There are four squares, created where the toes of the paws are inverted.
@@lov3lou it was making me nuts, thank you!
@@marydonald-abair2889 it took me a while to see it! Glad to relieve the pressure 🥳
I enjoy watching your process 😊.
I love! Putting a large block on the back of the quilt. What genius!
Kate I LOVE IT !!!!!
Now all of us will make Bear Paws quilts.
Haha! Just what I was thinking 😂
I made a block for Chris English's quilt, and I was thrilled to see it.
It'll be a Sleuth of Bears! x x x
@@BarbaraSanders-vn6lfFOR SURE... I'm already thinking about which fabrics or if this is a good enough reason to go and buy some!!! 😁🤓🥳
@@venitabucceri8435 go and buy some more fabric!
Love the projects, Kate . . . . .blessings . . . . .
I'm sitting here in my sewing room sewing while I listen and peek in at your progress on the bear claw quilt. It's almost like we're having a little sewing bee together. I can't do anything that fancy, but I am making a stack of quilts for some kids here in Mexico who live in a mission. I could buy warm blankets more cheaply, but they've had a rough time of it and don't really own anything. So I figured some colorful quilts might brighten their nights a little bit. Besides, houses here aren't insulated or heated. When it's 47° F/ 9 C outside that's the same temperature it is inside, give or take a degree or two. So you can't have too many blankets in winter. Thanks for letting me hang out on the lime green couch while I work.
That's a lovely project. Good luck! x x x
Hello Kate and a very Happy 7th Birthday to your channel. I have not been on the lime green sofa for long, but I am binging your videos and loving them. I did not notice your different block until you made comment about mistake. It only makes it more unique, My favorite colour is green also. Thank you Kate .
Your channel is so relaxing! Thank you !
Good Morning, thrilled to see you doing so well !
Blooming marvelous! Hi from Adelaide South Australia. Thoroughly enjoying your video’s. ❤❤
It's called a blade saver. You can get them on wish or temu for a fraction of the cost of what they are on Amazon.
Be careful buying from Temu- China-based, and you end up getting what you pay (or don’t pay) for!
@@rubyhaze1 you are correct with some items. But I bought 4 of the blade savers from temu and the quality is just fine.
So very pretty!! I love your backing too!
The quilt turns out so beautiful, the colours are so bright and shining. Congratulations.
It is lovely. I can see it cozy on your lime green sofa. Never did find the block that was stitched incorrectly. It is all good.
Kate, I love your sense of color! This is another gorgeous quilt, and you make it all look so easy. Joyful bear claw quilt!
It's so beautiful I just love the colours 😍 x
I really like this quilt. Beautiful fabrics. Whimsical.
I love it! I so enjoy watching your videos, such a great person and talent❤
Gorgeous!
Lovely quilt and video. Of note , when I join wadding pieces together I butt them up to each other and then run a large machine zigzag stitch along the joins. Works well
I love your quilts you have made and i would like to make you a special cushion for your cabin
That's very kind of you, but I would actually really love it if you made a lovely quilt for yourself, a friend or family memeber! x x x
Oh Kate this is gorgeous!
Love this Kate! I think I like the back more than the front
I love love LOVE seeing your TH-cam award in the background of this video! Keep up the great work. You are a balm on my nerves.
It's so pretty!! I like to watch you before bed. Your sweet voice e and confident manner is so calming. Can't wait to see what's next!!❤
I love this pattern. The very first hand pieced quilt I made was the using the bear paw pattern. Your quilt is absolutely delightful.
Beautiful quilt 👍
😊I love your quilt❤

The result is so beautiful
Thanks again, Kate! You give me peace and motivate me so much in back to patchwork again that I like so much! Thanks for being there!
Thank you for sharing your bear paw journey quilt, it’s beautiful and I love the green matches so well.
I have used basting spray very good but I found the quilters tape so easy to match all the left overs. 😊
