    The car is worth more then money. It runs. Great car to learn on. Family history ...

    I know this won't be the popular option but I would fix brakes etc enjoy runs and cruises and start collecting parts to hot rod over time as you can afford it

      I like that plan. I think I may even get another vehicle to fix up that is more affordable and easier to hot rod and leave this original for the time being

    Keep it original !!. I have a 50 champion daily driver that is all original and in perfect shape Gets more looks than my 60 Rolls

      I’ve decided to keep it as is. When we get some nice weather I’m gonna take it out for a drive and make a video.

      @@mosierwerks if it was a rust bucket with no engine etc that’s the car you make a rod.

    My Dad would have been watering at the mouth for that....He loved the Studebakers ... IMO I would upgrade it with a late model running gears and fix some of the floor and trunk pans make it safe to drive and enjoy the heck out of it. Thanks for sharing

      My exact thought. With a newer drivetrain you be way more likely to drive it more often.

    As long as the engine runs well, I think it would be good to run it as it is. You may be favorably surprised at how competent it is, for moderate driving. If it has overdrive, it could even be fine for highway use. And you'll like it when you buy gas. (The smaller Studebaker Champion was usually a star in the Mobilgas Economy Runs.) Calling that rust "beyond repair" made me smile - I've repaired so much worse, and others have repaired much worse than I have. Whatever you decide, thanks for the interesting video, and best wishes for enjoying your car. Rock Auto likely has some parts.

      Soon I’m going to do a video of taking it out for a drive. We put a new set of tires on it. It’s pretty much turn key drivable.

      @@mosierwerks The three screw-on caps on the battery are quick indicators that it's a six volt system. Twelve volt ones had six caps. (Works out to two volts a cell, if my math is up to the task.) These batteries were a generation before Maintenance Free, and need (guess what?) maintenance. That involves removing the caps and checking the electrolyte level, full level indicators being built into the split tube the caps screw into. When the electrolyte contacts the bottom of the tube, it's full. Add water (distilled used to be a big deal specification, but may have been "honored more in the breach than in the keeping". Tap water works fine. If a lot needed to be added, we were to charge the battery until all cells were "gassing freely". Bubbles coming up, I think they meant. Slow charging (at low charging amps) is supposed to be easier on the battery than fast charging. Removing corrosion from the terminals and connecters, providing clean tight connections, is the last maintenance step, I think. You'll probably see that the ground connection is through a braided strap, not a cable. These were used to conduct the six volts at high amps. Glad you got tires - did you check to see if it has overdrive?

    • @mosierwerks
      @mosierwerks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just asked my dad he said it does have overdrive. I may go up and drive it next week and video it.

      @@mosierwerks The overdrive is a big plus, contributing to easy cruising in your Land Cruiser. A couple of things come to mind that may make your drive more enjoyable. Greasing the front end, particularly the king pins, may reduce effort at the steering wheel. And I'd like to have the brakes up to snuff. Maybe they grab from lack of use, and will burnish nicely after a few moderate stops. Long slow stops would be good - light, steady pedal pressure. The exhaust sounds sweet as your Dad goes up the driveway, the flathead six lugging just a bit. Music to a car guy's ears.

    If that has the overdrive feature on it I would keep it original . The hubcaps are from a 62 model and the gear shift knob is not original.

    The Raymond Loewy Studebakers were the most iconic and beautiful of the line. It is a shame to alter them and lose that. How much do you want for it?

    I would swap a modern drivetrain/chassis in it. Crown Vic, Ranger, Explorer, S10 or whatever fits and daily drive it. It would be the most unique thing on the road!

    They're only original once and this car has a lot of history and is way to complete to mess up. you can find yourself another Studebaker body somewhere in America that you can let your imagination run wild with don't ruin this one. baby it and deal with its shortcomings.

    • @mosierwerks
      @mosierwerks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. I've decided to keep this all original and get another project vehicle. I'm thinking v8 swap square body s10.

      Like you said. Years ago, 1980s, maybe, one of the car mags did a year long cost comparison between the writer's (Michael Lamm, maybe) step down Hudson and a then current Mercedes, which the Hudson won. One factor was the depreciation of the Mercedes, because as the writer pointed out, "Hudsons can't depreciate." This Studie can't, either, unless it's modified or rusts badly, can it?
