Installation Guide for the Saber Tactical Chassis for the Avenge-X PCP Pellet Rifle by AirVenturi

  • My Avenger and Avenge-X videos are some of my most watched, and it's not really surprising why. They both represent pre-charged pneumatic pellet guns that perform way above their price-point. Great performance and great value create interest, and translate to views.
    Saber Tactical is one of the premier manufacturers of accessories for airguns. They've made all the "must have" accessories for the FX Impact, chassis for the Dreamline, Crown and HM1000X but until now that treatment has been reserved for airguns with a price-tag north of 1K$, and sometimes well north...
    Now Avenge-X shooters have a quality built, feature rich platform to all kinds of shooting, from pest control off a tripod out west to bench shooting out east or PRS shooting, well, everywhere.
    The Chassis is easy to install. Taking the stock furniture off the Tactical version of the Avenge-x takes way longer than putting it in the Chassis.
    In this video I do an overview of features, walk through the un-installation of the old parts and finally installation of the new ones. It's all there so no matter whether you buy it, either new or second hand (don't hold your breath...but these videos tend to live forever) you should have all the info you need to the process is a breeze.
    As far as features go, you get both picatinny and ARCA Swiss, QD swivel sling stud holes, MLok, a cover for the hammer spring adjuster, AR grip capability and the choice of re-using the buffer tube and stock from the original build or the capacity to add a buffer tube and stock of your own.
    The conversion depicted here is from the Avenge-X Tactical to the Saber Chassis, but the process to convert from one of the other variants will be essentially similar, if not a little easier given the monolithic nature of the other Avenge-X stocks.
    A note on the Avenge-X Tactical Handgrip. While the stock tactical stock will accept most AR style handgrips, the stock handgrip is not AR compatible, and cannot be fitted to the Saber Tactical Chassis without modification.
    For anyone reviewing this video, the transition described here is being done on an air powered pellet rifle, not a firearm, and there is no shooting in this video.

    Here's a couple of suggestions if you don't mind them. First I suggest that before you start attaching a buffer tube, you get the hand grip attached; that gives you just a little more room to turn the screw or the bolt to attach the hand grip. The second item is even though this says that it can take a mil-spec hand grip, please remember not one with the Beavertail. I hope you find this helpful in that others find this helpful

    • @WiscAirGunners
      @WiscAirGunners  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't mind.
      If you aren't using a vertical grip you might find putting the buffer tube set screw in awkward depending on the rake of your grip. I find beavertail grips to be the least "speky" of AR parts. I've only tried two, and one fits and the other doesn't. All the non-beaver grips I've tried fit perfectly.

    The Saber Tactical chassis is what the OEM production Avenge X Tactical should have been. Who does their designs for Air Venturi?? I am guessing Springfield Armory.( I think I read it somewhere.) One of the weaknesses of the Avenge X Tactical version OEM stock is where it screws into the rear stock connecting base it is a very weak composite plastic and mine broke off when the rifle took a dive accidentally. I think what Saber tactical has done with their design in regard to this area was to make the threaded stock buffer tube receptor of machined metal making it less susceptible to breaking and making it more durable. I like the Saber tactical chassis for the bottled version alot but $300?? I feel is a bit steep. If you think about it, it cost almost as much as a Avenge X 25 cal (tube version) rifle! I would consider $200 or less for what it is otherwise I will stick to OEM chassis just be more careful next time. I really think after a year or so Air Venturi should canvass Avenge X owners about if you could maker this rifle better what would it be type of survey. Imagine if they even listened and applied improvements on the Avenge X platform how much better a value and even more robust this rifle can be. I would probably sell the 1st gen one and get the more improve one. That's just me. It is a great rifle I have to say, but can be improved. Just listen to the owners they know best.

    My groups were all over the place when using the chassis at first because I couldn’t mount the barrel brackets back down and the barrel had some wobble too it. I drilled a hole between the first and second lug on the bottom pic rail and just light bolted it on but slowing a small gap between the bracket and chassis rail so when using bipod it didn’t move the barrel thing shoots dead on now. ( love the chassis)

      It shouldn't have that much flex. Make sure that it is bedded properly and the action screws are fully seated and snug. Be careful not to cross thread the screws going into the action, and don't use it if the screws are loose. Stressing a loose screws is a sure way to tear out threads.

    Excellent Video, just one? On the original stock the barrel band is locked in. On the chassis it is left were you slid it. Now doesn't that defeat the purpose of the barrel band since it is free to move. What's your opinion?

    • @WiscAirGunners
      @WiscAirGunners  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The challenge with locking it in is that any pressure on the rail translates to the barrel shroud, which can at best will shift your POI and could even be responsible for pellet clipping. The stock one does have some flex, so you need to be careful about how much pressure you are putting on the rail when shooting off a bipod.
      The barrel is free floated inside the shroud. I've taken off more barrel bands than I've installed.

    • @dennischristian9448
      @dennischristian9448 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was thinking on those same lines better to levee it off. Is there much flex on the unsupported barrel shroud/barrel to effect POI? Maybe design a barrel ban to fit with the chassis clamped to the bottle for those who prefer the band. Very impressed with all of Saber Tactical innovations.

    • @WiscAirGunners
      @WiscAirGunners  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dennischristian9448 I know on the original when I swapped from a canted forward bipod to a canted back configuration (short bench) I put enough pressure on (unintentionally) to shift POI pretty significantly, and it took me a minute to figure out what was happening. I'm sure in time other people will be adding to the barrel band options.

    • @WiscAirGunners
      @WiscAirGunners  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can put the barrel band on for some support in front of the rail. Make sure the shroud itself is fully seated to the action. You might also reach out to Black Arts Design to see if he has a barrel band. His MO for fastening them doesn’t require the bottom bolt.

      I would imagine rigidity and durability would not be issues on any of those.
      I always pictured chassis systems being precision machined and structurally superior to a typical rifle stock made of polymer or wood, perhaps not a laminate stock that’s been properly bedded to the receiver but is this a misconception on my end?

    • @WiscAirGunners

      The bare Chassis with a grip is 2.5 pounds. My Avenge-X, scoped and wearing the Chassis is 10 pounds. The parts I took off (and didn't put back on) are 2 pounds. So I'd say about a half pound.
