- In this episode of Ellen’s new digital series “Fearless,” host Ashley Graham talks to Rickey, a 25-year-old transgender man from Kansas City, Missouri. Rickey transitioned just over a year ago and has been working on his confidence. Ashley introduces Rickey to actress and LGBTQ activist Laverne Cox, and the surprise meeting brings Rickey to the floor. The powerful moment is followed by Rickey revealing that Laverne is the first transgender person he has ever met.

@@nyla-amarasmit8117 I completely understand your life. I have a chronic illness as well was in pain everyday.. All day. Went through 9 years of it, and I had a surgery to help me. No It didn't heal me completely, but had my surgery in November of 2018, and for the 1st time in 9 years no pain. So I understand what type of situation your in, mine light not be as severe illness as yours, I only have a few diagnoses, but I understand the painful life. Keep your head up, it'll get better

This is on a whole new level of how Ellen uses her platform and show, to personally reach out and help in the most personal relatable way is utterly phenomenal. I was moved to tears by this, especially when he first saw Laverne. He seemed so choked up its as if he was having a panic attack, this proves the result of years of concealing and containment of his true identity. It is so critical for transgender people to see other transgender people exist and THRIVE!!! I am a transgender man and I am crying 😭 ❤️because this is so important!!! People want to dismiss all the transgender people in the media right now but it’s so important!!!
Females that transition to males have it much easier because it tends to look way more natural than a male to female trans. Male to female trans get ridiculed way more. It's pretty rare to see a male to female and not immediately know something isn't right because the masculine features can't be reversed and even if by the rare chance they DO naturally look female, the voice almost always gives it away. Female to male trans people should be very grateful that they do not have to live with these issues.

My son is transgender and I love him with all of my heart.I have been at his side since he told me in his teens.I go to his testosterone shots and have been at his side through a couple surgeries,and shall be at his side through all of his journey.He means the world to me,and I am truly blessed to be his mum.

@@murtithinker7660 let people be who they are. it can be emotionally difficult not having anyone like you growing up. he cried because he met another person just like him !! this isn’t a cry from a “little girl”. it’s tears of joy from a little boy who thought there was no one else like him in the world. imagine how relieved he must feel to know he’s not alone and that there are many other people just like him trying to express themselves properly.
As someone from Iowa who's spent a ton of time in missouri and the other midwest states, his mannerisms are so familiar. the way he holds back tears so he can properly thank them for the money is just, that's midwest 100%.

I felt all of that emotion. I felt all his strength and all his vulnerability. Oh my goodness. His reaction to seeing Laverne Cox and being gifted that money to help move along in his transition was beyond powerful. I am so happy for you, Rickster! What a beautiful story with beautiful people.
I am the parent of a transgender adult (my baby.) Regardless of gender, the core of this person I love is always there. Will always be there. Everyone needs to be OK on the inside, before they can be OK with what's on the outside. Regardless of sexual or physical orientation. And everyone finds that OK in different ways. As a parent, I have learned that whatever dreams or goals or expectations I had for my child had absolutely nothing to do with who or how they would turn out. They aren't me. And that's OK too. I don't expect grandchildren. I just hope that my child will have a loving and supportive relationship with someone who respects, nurtures and uplifts them. I knew that my child was gay before we talked about it. I suspected they were transgender before they talked about it. And all of those conversations ended the same way. I am your mother, and I love you. I don't care if you're 97 years old. You'll always be my baby. And I'll always be your mother bear. Love to Ashely, Laverne, and The Rickster. :) And Ellen. Kindness doesn't cost you anything. Plus it earns interest.

I used to have some really messed up & negative views on transgender persons as well as pretty much anyone who was different from me. It's no excuse, but I believe a lot of my views were influenced by my strict southern Baptist upbringing & also due to being sexually assaulted by a same-sex neighbor when I was a child. Over the years, my views have changed for the better. I think stories like these are so impactful in bigoted people understanding people who are different by listening to their struggles to find happiness in this world (which we all want). *Good Luck, Rickey on your journey!!!*

Wow, I've never been so touched in my life. Bring on the tears. Watching Rickey really made me see how the same we all are. It also gives me a deep appreciation for the hurdles that trans people have to deal with. I had a dear friend who passed away and I found out he (she) was trans and in the closet. This video makes me appreciate his (her) difficult struggle that was going on before my eyes without me ever knowing.
