A lot of it comes down to the way it's attached. The body itself is relatively light, so once it breaks free from the frame (which is intentionally fairly easy to do), it's an object that doesn't require much momentum to move, so it moves out of the way easily. If you put this bus against the wall, the amount of damage you do to it increases significantly as now the body is *absorbing* everything and not just getting pushed out of the way. As far as the roof strength goes, IRL Thomas put a full size flat nosed bus on top of one of their Type A buses (like this one) and there was so little flex that the windows and doors remained openable.
