I love The Lyres, yes they are from Boston. I have most of their album, in fact got one to show. They are still playing music but have not put out an album in decades.
thanks for the info steve. looking forward to listening. needless to say i’ve got a lot of catching up to do as far as listening goes. now that christmas is over I can put away that music and get back to making dents in my pile.
The Strokes debut was their best effort. First time seeing that cover. The Endless Summer movie was very well done. I have not been to the new location yet; it looks very well-stocked.
walking around the new store will feel very much like youre in the old store. surprising they found a spot that size so close where they were able to practically mimic the old location…. except for parking. i agree that first Strokes album os best but i do like most of their catalog except for Comedown Machine. That one I cant find anything on it that clicks with me.

That Patti Smith album has my favorite Patti song,'Frederick'. Another great video!🤘

I love the location shoot lol, beautiful river. I enjoy those large stores but I find them overwhelming, I never know where to go. I should really make a list but that would require too much thought on my part. Wonderful looking store.
yeh i know whatcha mean. i’ve been in a bunch like this where it can be just frustrating thinking of how to go about looking for stuff here. especially ones like this where there are more bins down below. i use an app called CLZ to keep track of what I own and on there you can also make a wish list. mine isn’t very long so it’s kinda easy to just quickly check for those first and the get to digging. But yeh places like this ya really need a few hours to spare. Thanks for tuning in Steve.
Amoeba took out Aarons , Moby Disc & Rhino ..3 legendary stores so they know what they are doing. Excellent Patti Smith & Alarm finds. People have the power !
Aarons I never had the pleasure of hitting up. But I would go to Moby Disc in Sherman Oaks every Friday in the 90s. Wear my Moby Disc shirt from Valley Relics all the time. Rhino was great for their parking lot sales. Found lots of awesome stuff their cheap.
Nice to see the adventures the vinyl went on before landing here. Never heard of La Luz, plus it has been a minute since I heard the band name Girl Trouble. Thanks again for the record
I goofed with La Luz cause they had another of their albums their cheap but I thought I already had it so didn’t pick it up and didn’t bother checking the app I use to keep track of my collection. The live show really made me wanna grab more of their stuff before that I was just casually into them. The Girl Trouble album is really good. Surprised I never heard of them. Yes me and the Human Switchboard album sat by the river and contemplated life for awhile before we decided to move on and part ways.

That Strokes album is so classic. I've been to the San Francisco location, the old LA location, and the new LA location. Hopefully I'll finally visit the Berkeley one in a few months.
I remember when I went to the San Francisco Amoeba I started in the CD section in the Zs and started working my way back. Byt the time I got to the S section I already had so many I just stopped and paid for what I had a left. If I had stayed and went through the entire section I woulda left with a 100 CDs. Luckily I wasn't buying vinyl back then or who knows what woulda happened.
So far that variant cover .. The Strokes debut, and Jimmy Cliff and The Alarm " Standards" are interesting ! Glad you got a vinyl copy of Human Switchboard.. I love it ! ⚡️5 bucks is an awesome low price as well..
couldnt believe they had that album in stock and for such a low price. i paid a lot more than that for your copy. sent it to Shaun Spins. He dig it too.

Super good knowledge and always brought the heat ! I think you remember him, actually. We're finally boarding for Reno, I'm completely burnt ! 😟
@@jtsrecordroom3963 yeh ive been in contact with shaun for awhile now. i actually highlighted him for a contest JC ran awhile ago. Momma’s was great. wish he’d make more vids. they were great too cause they’d be like 7 minutes long.

Hi Steve, That opening shot by the L.A. River reminds me of the flood channels in Huntington Beach. One man's throwaway can be another's treasure! Thanks for thinking of me this past year with the many VCLT gifts, and I really appreciate it. I have that Patti Smith album among a couple of others. I'll take any Jimmy Cliff. I have that Alarm collection on compact disc. It is a good summary of their stuff. I saw them in Ottawa in 1986. I don't know Human Switchboard but that is a cool name. Happy New Year my friend! ✌

Used to hang at Longboards by the pier back in 90s. havent been down that way in a long long time. i’m doing a big purge for the first time. have a stack of CDs that i’m getting rid of. it needs to happen. just a lot of stuff i never got into after buying for one song. i’ll run a few past ya if ya interested. thanks for tuning in as always dude. hope yall had a good holiday.
@@STEVEHEROLD I've had a beer or two at Longboard's. Perq's was near that place. It was a cool live blues club in HB. I only went once or twice. At the time we were living there our daughter was very young and I was more likely to be found on a Saturday at Disneyland in Anaheim!
Amoeba looks great. I was at the old one once over ten years ago. Still have a section on Laserdiscs I saw in your picture. That's cool. I love Patti Smith and have everything by her. Wave is awesome - not as good as Easter but still really good. That's the original, not the remaster but still really good. Revenge and Citizenship are great songs along with Frederick and as you said Dancing Barefoot which is incredible. that's a great Alarm compilation. Great video and cool location
yeh i'm looking forward to diving into that patti smith album. as you know i'm backed up man and haven't gotten to listen to hardly anything from my trip west yet. the alarm one i wasn't sure if I should pick up cause i felt like i maybe had all of it already on studio albums but luckily there's maybe half the tunes that I don't have on something else. yeh they still have laser discs. I don't think they had any 8-tracks though but when i was in Reno, Recycled Records still had 8-tracks. You haven't talked bout 8-tracks in awhile. You still picking them up? or have ya kinda put that aside? Thanks for tuning in dude.
@@STEVEHEROLD Thanks Steve - Laserdiscs I watch regularly - lots of fun. The 8-tracks was a bust. 90 percent of the tapes don't play. Just too old and rotted. The player looks good...lol, but just sitting here. Even the "new" still sealed 8-tracks don't play well. Oh well. Happy New Year.
The The Strokes one was cool! I am from Ireland and live in Ireland and the strokes is this it was always there,I didn’t know much about them until like in October I’d like to say and since then can’t find them in the charity shops anymore. PS the M83 one is amazing

Nice video from the new Amoeba record store in Hollywood. I went to the old one years ago. La Luz looks interesting (all girl bands are interesting to me). You can't go wrong with Patti Smith, that record is a classic. I was into The Alarm years ago when they had a minor hit with 'Come On Down.' Love the travelog videos. Keep it up!
Check that Steve, The Alarm song was called 'The Stand.'
yes aside from the parking issues the new amoeba is just as good as the old one. i got so many records to catch up on its scary. im also for the first time doing a big purge of my collection. have a stack of maybe 20 im ditching. thats just CDs, gonna go through the vinyl too. time had come. needed to. a lot of the stuff im ditching are things i bought for one song and then rest of album never clicked for me. no point hanging on.
