About Josh Turner Guitar
Joshua Lee Turner is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer based in Brooklyn, New York. Josh is best known for his TH-cam channel Josh Turner Guitar, where he has been posting eclectic cover performances and original music since he started the channel in 2007 at age 15. Josh now tours internationally in support of his own original music, as well as with long-time collaborator Carson McKee, as the folk duo The Other Favorites. In August, Josh released Public Life, his second full-length album of original music.
I can feel the stress while moving capo.
But he does it so well!
...and the smile of satisfaction each time.
@@danielmconnolly7, there are no mistakes in art, only "happy accidents".
And "improv opportunities".
And "modern jazz".
Could someone create some foot switchable capo? That would really help!
Bob Esponja as a capo
Unsurprisingly, this is immediately the best Harmony Hall cover out there.
Without even listening first, I can confirm this comment.
Eh...I’d say it’s tied with the Switchfoot version
Agreed
Switchfoot’s version is amazing.
No doubt....
Aw, this takes me back to last summer listening to this album in the van on the road with you two. Love this arrangement and whew Carson on those high harms 🔥
I guess that would be summer 2019 during your European Tour, time flies.
Maybe some day we'll be able to listen an album from the four of you kindred spirits on the road.
This also reminds me a road trip between Duluth and Moorhead MN. Our car broke down and my college bound son had this song on constant rotation. We chuckled grimly at, “I don’t wanna live like this, but I don’t wanna die.” We made it. He made it. 😊 Love this song, love your performance boys!!
That’s part of the appeal of what you post. It allows us fans to travel vicariously with you on those tours. Can’t wait until you’re traveling again.
I first read that as "High Hams"
I read "high harms" and I was like "his arms aren't that high, they're just below his shoulders"
" that's a beautiful song, but I really have to get to my apartment "
😂😂
As teenager I used to play and sing in the staircase .......there are better acoustics.
@@kathidori8504 In the bathroom too ahah
@@jessicacosiguitar Wow, you'r right! 🛀
„Hold my beer and take a sip, man!“ - „OOOOOkkaaaayyyy!“
Played on 'Harmony' guitars.. nice.
In a hall
And is always there Arrangement is Flawless fire

@@michellewilkes5801 Yeah i'll admit that i was thinking "Questionable studio". But i hadnt even read the damn title of the video lol
Hi Leonardo, for us novices, could you expand on why that is interesting/challenging/unique?
That door closing at 0:11 was so on the beat I thought we were about to get a percussion section
It was perfectly timed.
Also Josh putting the capo on the headstock the second time added a nice percussive accent
Did NOT know Carson's register was that high. You go Carson. And Josh, well, you brought that song back from the dead.
I love Carson's voice!
Strong falsetto voice as well as his natural baritone
Amazing . He sings a great bass line too
"That was a clear winner for me."
You guys should call yourselves the Brothers Understatement.
Wow! Fastest Capo in the west. FAVORITES, FORGET the “others” ! You guys are the bomb!
..in the east.
What a move!
Such an topical song with everything going on
"anger wants a voice, voices want to sing, singers harmonize, till they can't hear anything,"
And
"Anybody with a worried mind can never forgive the sight
Of wicked snakes inside a place you thought was dignified
I don't wanna live like this, but I don't wanna die"
@@passionforhispeace1194 2021 will be no different. Worse even.
Goosebumps
Yes, recording in the home studio that Josh put together in his apartment was too easy, so they had to transfer to a cramped public hallway.
Chasing natural reverb like the greats before them...Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones.
It’s a Hall!
Amazing love the atten 2 details.
Me at 1:20 "Just throw that capo on the floor man!".
Josh: "Nope, I will need it later on......."
lol I had the exact same thought...and then "oh...never mind..."
I'm an 11th grader and this is what I imagine the best years of college are like
If you are very very very lucky
Make it happen
Heh yeah gl
i love this
You can have this life any time you want. To be fair, both Josh and Carson are both older than college-aged in this video.
Josh literally looks like a doctor who just returned from a complex surgery to 'remove a capo from the neck'.
Hilarious!
🤗😅😅🤣🤣🤣🙏🙏
Lol this is a fantastic contextual joke!
Josh's hair always looks like he just got out of bed.
He reminds so much to freddie Highmore and also a bit to Asa Butterfield
Holy shi*t guys. Josh, Carson, Reina and Toni have 100% been the highlight of the pandemic.
Word! :)
"But you would have to tune your guitar up and down 4 semitones during the song. Several times!"
Josh: "Hold my beer."
So cool!
I mean, this is what capos are for
seemed the hardest thing about that was for those two to not burst out laughing when Josh pulled his stunt!! :-D
@willsagen My dad has a big storage tub full of Guitar Player magazines, and I read them -- and it seems Tommy Tedesco, who was part of The Wrecking Crew in L.A., in the 1970s, used to use this capo switcheroo trick sometimes. Not as often as Josh does, probably, but still....
It's spooky good. Not sure I have ever found any two who are so precisely in tune, literally, with what they play. The music just bursts out of them. It is a permanent delight. And in a corridor under the stairs, to boot. Simply a wonder.
Milk Carton Kids
Add “guitar percussionist” to Carson’s already impressive list of talents! And that mask-on-neck thing is such a 2021 accessory...
Thanks for another great song.
I don't know how you guys can record such intricate tracks (especially when they require crazy quick capo changes) without bottling it under the pressure in the final closing bars! Amazing stuff.
I thought the same thing, they are amazing!
@@danielmconnolly7 "noise complaint" is one of my favorite parts of the John Prine Paradise cover video they did from a few years ago.
Practice, practice...
Take 465
They keep playing until they get a good take :)
Two of the most talented guys ever....
Check out Sharon Little's TH-cam channel.
Tolerant Neighbours would be a good band name
I think you guys are flawless fire Ann are as beautiful harmonizing and arrangements as Angels at least as I would imagine angels to sound but I too have also have to 2nd ST opinion that another name would be far better the other favorites doesn't do you justice
"I can't make the whole song without flubbing at least one skibaduba" - Carson Mckee
Pure poetry hahaha. Never stop adding the commentary at the end of your videos!
Also, this is probably one of my favorite covers yet. Carson's high harmonies are insane, and Josh never ceases to amaze me with his guitar skills. Also, this song suited your voice really well Josh!
Didn't really know the group, "Vampire Weekend". Sure as hell, didn't know this song. But I do now, thanks to Carson & Josh! Well done!
Check out their first album its a classic
they're underrated as far as musicianship which these dudes showcase in this performance, can't recommend them high enough!
I continue to be just blown away not only by you guy's musicianship, but by your ability to record and master all the nuances of your performance. Bravo, bravo, bravo.
What an example of everything these two brilliant musicians can do . .....
The two of you will be remembered forever if I have anything to do with it.
Wow...You guys gotta promise that you will keep playing with each other. You accent each other so well and you have a special bond that only comes around once in a while. As an older guitar player I played with a guy for 30 years and now we dont play much and not nearly as good as you guys and man I can tell you, the time goes by.....Play music, make memories and cherish the gifts you both have....Im a follower for life so keep the vids comin please...
OMG Carson singing that high! Awesome
I keep coming back to this at least once a week. It heals my soul
I'm playing it every other day.
Josh, this is such a haunting song, flawless guitar work, and the harmony between you and Carson keeps drawing me back to listen again and again. Very clever to do in the hallway to match the song title, plus it gave you great acoustics - even I sound great in the shower🙃. Keep it up. I’m an old man and play just enough to appreciate what a professional performance you produce. I’m listening to Nineteen and Shameless, repeatedly! I just can’t get enough of your productions. I’ve compared many album label songs you’ve done, and I prefer your version to the originals from to 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. I lived through the 40s and heard the music you faithfully reproduce, but in a little softer version that suits my taste. You have replaced the TV.
Only Josh and Carson would intricately mic perfect audio in a hallway :D - amazing performance and engineering and props to Kelly for the smooth video!
changing the capo now that is a skill thanks again boys for putting a smile on my face if it weren't for you two I think my depression would win you two are my wall thank you so much .
Your harmonies and the acoustics of that hallway are amazing. Damn.
I like your profile picture, friend.
Brilliant ... I love the original, but this is even better. That is the essence of TH-cam ... listen (and watch) music like this :)
For some WIERD reason - that made me weep. It was a totally, and I do mean TOTALLY awesome experience. Love you guys...
Not weird at all. It's beautiful. Music touches our souls ☺
The smile at 1:40 "Yeah, I got the capo back on. And just to prove it wasn't accident I'll do it again". Superb job as always, guys!
This is better than original
What, no complex Logic audio manipulation or track stacking? Gee, real talent and skill evident by what you just witnessed. Merci beaucoup again and again!
You always have stellar quality recordings that make the cleanliness of your playing sound even more beautiful
True! Makes for such easy listening
Not to mention their enunciation. I usually don't listen to lyrics because they're too muddled, but not with these guys. Been following them for 12-18 months and I've heard the words to some of their covers for the first time ever. Thanks, Josh and Carson!
Man..........the acoustics in that hallway helped make this performance even better than it is by itself which is stand-alone excellent!
I usually revert back to old school songs in my playlists, but Vampire Weekend always gets me in a good mood. Great cover!
Me too.
Just wow. The guitar work, the capo changes, the voice, the harmonization, the solos....Awesome.
Hey you guys rock. Each for himself and thank god you found a genuis fellow in one another.
World class music, with astonishing ease and free of any superstar manners. A great gift.
Missed to mention the 'just in time" slamming door during the intro. 😘
I don't wanna live like this, but I don't wanna die
these two always look like they are having so much fun with their music. huge inspiration for my channel. keep the content coming
These two guys with two guitars, live, can do (easily) what I could never do with unlimited tracks on my DAW. So much talent!
Shivers. I had a big goofy grin on my face for all of this.
...and that solo Josh...*chef's kiss*
I was very excited to see this in my recommended. Amazing cover.
Yh ,so good, they re just so talented
,I also do music too with little Subscribers to share it with,if you have some free time, check it out
I can't believe I've had this in my recommendations for three weeks and avoided it until now, glad I finally caved lmao
Some people are just made to play music 🎵 these young guys are simply breathtaking
amidst all the "bad PR" flowing out of USA these days, it's such a wonderful thing that one forgets about such things due to your contribution of pure... pure.... goodness! thank you!
This is about the 47th time I’ve played this song. I just love it. The harmonies, the guitar....and the chorus is - unintentionally - sort of the 2020-21 anthem. And the skibada.....
I haven't played guitar in a year and I knew I could come back here and it would motivate me to get back on it again. This is amazing stuff, vampire weekend have lyrical genius but this song and your rendition is a total bopper
Theyre playing harmony hall, while playing in harmony in a hallz my mind is blown!
Your neighbors can be lucky to hear this live concert for free :)
This song is so fun
To me the coolest thing you´ve ever done!
I agree
I really need for Corona to leave this world. I want to go out, see live music, resume regular life, man.... Thanks for posting great music every now and then. Please keep it up!
These two give off such good vibes. Always look forward to them singing and playing together . Thanks guys.
legendary producer Jo Meek, recorded most of his hit records in a stairwell! Amazing.
Any place still free at your block? I wouldn't hate being your neighbor, not at all!
Thanks for zooming in during the guitar solo. I was curious how it was played. Great job
That twin guitar stuff is absolutely gorgeous
How fitting to be playing a harmony guitar with all these harmonies.
I have nothing clever to say, but I loved it
two guys playing live beside the stairs and the sound quality is nothing less than a high level studio record. Crazy
I listen to your cover 10 times a day guy
I can’t even say “skibbitabibbitabibbita” let alone play it. You guys are amazing!
Lol, you spelled it perfectly
Stairway hallways are the best ways for that beautiful reverb
True!
Love how quickly Josh is able to move his capo! This is fantastic rendition of an already beautiful song---adding your own spin only makes it that much better, guys! I hope I come back as Josh Turner in my next life--so much talent.
Lucky neighbors!!!
Thank You so much.
Totally Awesome!
At 57 years old you have inspired me to purchase a Pandemic Guitar!
Playing the complexe riff and sing at the same time : you've got a fully equipped brain !
After the last few years that the we been through, and coming upon this cover with Josh wearing the mask the line of I don't want to live like this says it all. Love it keep them coming TGIF
i love everything about this with every fiber of my being. well done. i wish this pandemic would be over already so i could see you guys live!
You guys make the world better. Thanks.
It would be almost impossible for me to pick my favorite song from these two, but this song would be very close to the top!
Wow seeing a video of you guys a couple years ago and your still together! You hats true musical Heart! And friendship in harmony!
Josh and Carson have been playing music together since they were kids.
th-cam.com/video/8vh4OZJYXh0/w-d-xo.html
One more comment.....when I see you do this genre of song, I assume it’s a Josh song and Carson accompanies him beautifully. When a song is a bit more of a storytelling song or even a country type song, I assume it’s a Carson song & Josh does a fantastic job accompanying him. It’s almost as if The Other Favorites are becoming two separate but fantastic groups made up of the same musicians. How lucky for all of us.
You guys become one when you perform together. One perfectly tuned instrument.
Goddamn i didnt think Carsons voice could get that high
It super guys. And josh you move the capo effortlessly.🎉
Man, it sounds like there are at least 12 of you. I’m not usually prone to jealousy or envy, but in this case I’m going to have to make an exception. Thank you for sharing such beautiful music with us. Capo changes and all, you still manage to make it seem so effortless. Or, to put another way, f*** you guys, lol. 🥰
Wow! So much tension, drama and comedy... and that's just from the capo changes! Awesome as ever guys.
OK, I hit the "Like" button, now, where's the "loud clapping" one?
😂
You have been given a gift fellas.
Incredible cover! Sounds as rich as a whole band. Y’all are fantastic
When he mimics the piano line at 3:29 - dude always gets those little details in there. So good!
If Elvis can record "Heartbreak Hotel" in the stairwell of RCA studios for the echo effect, then Josh and Carson can use a stairwell for the same!
I was obsessed with this song when it came out and now I have a beautiful cover to be obsessed with
Just incredible. Bravo!
This is so amazing,I love everything about this video,I also do music too with little Subscribers to share it with,if you have some free time, check it out
3:30 Carson is impressed. Pure Fun, Dudes 👍🏼
Incredible job guys. The lyrics to this song didn't really hit me till I heard this cover, they truly are fantastic. Also that capo switching was marvellous :)
Holy moly!!!!
Whooo this sounds awesome! Must have taken sooo much practise... I'm keeping my fingers crossed you are able to keep this in your repertoire for whenever you can tour Europe again!
So good so good so good!
Such a great song guys. You must have great neighbors who like music!! Hahaha
I wish I was their neighbor 🤣
That was so beautiful. I don't know what I did to deserve witnessing such a gift. Please don't ever stop!
Josh "Fastest Capo Change I've Ever Seen" Turner
That capo off/on move was smooth as fuck
