    You dont have to remove the cush drives completely unless you are replacing them. just use a socket underneath them and hammer the sprocket off the carrier. Thats how the service manual says to do it.

    • @spillsoup
      @spillsoup 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just to be clear the sprocket is not fully attached to the carrier. Everything is held in place by the axle nut. Is that correct?

    ...its quite amazing how little wear there appears to be on the old rear sprocket - kind of a testament to the quality of metallurgy Ducati has here - the front has what I'd rate as normal looking wear, curious what chain you went with if not factory? Thanks for sharing!

  • @artmchugh5644
    @artmchugh5644 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You should remove the pinch bolts from the adjuster , push a chisel into the gap , spread it open and spray the hell out of it with WD40 !! work the adjuster back and forth till it moves easily!!! Now when you need to adjust the chain you stand a chance!!! 😀😀😀😀🏍🏍🏍🍺🍺🍺

    Thanks for the Video..my recommendation is lose the music next time..you don't have a loud voice and I had to go back 2-3 times on some things to be able to figure out what you were saying.

      thx, however in that video, the bike didnt have a single sided swingarm and thus no rod to rest and block the chain on, so how is it done on a multi is still a mystery to me :)

    If you are doing a how to video, or an explanation video WHY would you edit the footage and overlay the music louder than your voice? Jus my comment for future videos, haven't seen any other of yours.

    What did you say the star nut size on the rear sprocket was? The audio skips right when you're saying it. Sounded like "T60" but that doesn't look right when I look it up.

    Hey cool video. How often do you change (or is usual to change) the chain and the sprockets. I know that it depends of the drivers but what is the average??

    • @edavies
      @edavies  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jhon Bastidas Hi John, it really does depend on riding style and quality of sprocket. On this video I replaced the chain and sprocket at 17k miles which was well overdue I should have changed it probably 2k miles earlier. It also worth noting that if you don't regularly maintain your chain the sprockets etc will deteriorate faster. I've recently changed the chain an sprockets again at 25k because the sprockets I bought were cheap. I'm filming today fitting a chain oiler to my new set which should hopefully see this set last longer! But in answer to your question I would be happy with 12k from a chain and sprocket. In my F800 GS I've done 145k miles and regularly changed at 12k miles.

    There are at least two steps not needed in this procedure. No need to remowe the wheel, no need to loosen the rear sprocket bolts. Quite more easy if you know what to do before doing it.

    • @edavies
      @edavies  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Vento, I agree, I referenced that at 2:01 that you don't need to take the wheel off. The reason I took everything off (as I mentioned in the video) was to give everything a good clean and inspect the other parts.

    Cheers

      @rickharpster1953 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, did you best I've come up with thus far is longest spacer on sprocket to outside for best chain and sprocket alignment. I haven't ridden it yet because the front spocket just feels like its going on opposite from what it should be......wondering how this worked out for you?
      Thanks Rick

    It would be so much easier if Ducati Multistrada came with drive shaft like the others 1200cc adventure bikes

    • @Ducati_Dude
      @Ducati_Dude 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vagner Riquetti ---> I had a shaft drive motorcycle years ago... and the chain driven Multistrada now. Even though a chain requires periodic maintenance/adjustment, I much prefer a chain drive. Shaft drives are clunky... there is no 'give' as you have with a chain.

    Hi, why do you disassemble the wheel to replace the rear sprocket?

    • @edavies
      @edavies  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only because I wanted to get behind the frame to clean it and it made adjusting the chain a little easier.

    • @954kuki
      @954kuki 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok thank you. Even the builder's manual says to disassemble the wheel, but I did not understand the reason, disassemble the wheel to replace only the sprocket, can only be done if you have a central stand that Ducati Diavel does not have.

    • @edavies
      @edavies  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, you don't really need to remove the wheel if you don't want to.
