The straw on the seat took me back to my childhood days. First stop on a cold morning was the hay shed to putvstraw in our boots to keep the feet warm. Tractor seats were straw in a hessian sack.
From previous torture, I found the problem was the fabric surrounding the wiring of the internal fuel float was breaking down in the diesel over time and gave rise to the muck you found at the start of the video. As mentioned earlier, small plastic pipe attached to the fuel tap will stop you using the diesel (and crap) at the bottom tank. Keep on rocking Phil!
I have cleaned a few various types of tractor tanks.I park with a block under a wheel to tilt the tractor towards the outlet. Drain then with a nozzle on a garden hose and a torch rinse the crap towards the outlet taking care not to splash it up around the sides. That’s why I don’t use a power washer as all the dirt will be in the bottom anyway. Put in the tap and add 4 litres of Coca Cola leaving for one hour and rinse again. Leave overnight with a fan heater on it to dry it out. Problem solved. Michael Hoey has a tractor in his collection that used to be ours and it broke my heart till I did as described above.
I knew a man with a fleet of buses did the same. Eventually he took an angle grinder to the diesel tank, and shoveled out about 6 inches of muck. I had the same problem with my mf, so i fitted an engine oil filter to the fuel line, drilled out the rubber diaphragm in it and replaced the gauze tap under the tank with a hose tail. 1/2" pipe direct to the filter, no more blockages. mf and ford had a troublesome design there. there are other tractors without the issue.
HI Guys, some of these tank taps have a nylon type filter inserted in them and if you happen to get diesel with so-called bio fuel mixed with it , then you have a problem- it usually seals up the micro filter in the back of the injector pump, the injector pump filter would look perfectly clean but it simply would not let diesel thrugh.
Phil that dirt might have been in the bottom on drums if you ever used them for diesel. I use paint filter when filling diesel to make sure no dirt get into the tank in my vintage tractors as I have to use drums .
I once forgot to fill her up mid hayseason, and we were used to Metric, not "imperial", threads.... Poor 35 missed the rest of the season, until the proper replacement finally arrived. Still love the sound of it though ❤️
I THERE GOOD ..... but don't like running on the lumpy stuff.....😅🤪.. cracking vid sir nice work on the 35x the joys of simple machines... stay safe 🏴
Time to get rid of that drum before some uses it in error & puts clean fuel into it & it dirties a fuel system that has expensive filters on it. Does the farm fuel tank, have a good filter system on it. 5/8 UNF die nut for the steering shaft thread clean/refresh to tighten ya steering nut up Phil.
Hi Phil, Do NOT put the gause back on the Tap. instead fit a plastic throw away filter between the Tap and the Diesel lift pump. two minutes to replace the filter in the future. Forty years at it. Modern Diesel must be burnt soon after purches.
Thats the bio in the diesel the fuel filter will be the same an the pipes till the pump its the old beef dipping they use is the curse. God help you if the landy does the same i was in a s3 an was right back till the injectors before i got it running
People say theres no profit from arable on light land so they have gon for flowers in grass and carbon credits to sell for houseing companys to have a nature field
Your going to get some infection Phil someday lad you should wear the disposable orange gloves handling stuff around the farm you never know rats piss can get in threw your skin if Phil gets sick videos gone your brillant phil
steering wheel is loose. Havent you leant anything off your dad ,at your age i was doing the repairs on the machinery on the farm dont know why you took the bonnet off

Throw a handful of nuts in the tank when you shake it, the help dislodge stuff.
Never thought of that good idea
Hi Phil, that was a fun video of all the tractors you and father Phil restore they get a job to do. Nice to see that they keep going.

You have fuel algae growing in your tank, it may be in your main fuel tank where you pump from so will need checking and sorting out
Good to see the 35 getting some well deserved maintenance. Shall we start a gofundme to get you a new cushion for the seat.
Love the straw/hay on the seat as its done all over ireland and the world in all the old basic tractors .....
Nice to see the MF 35 content on the channel 👍👍👍
Aah that sounds, takes me back 40 years to my dads 135 🥰
Father Phil to the rescue, but you and Troy did good anyway :)

Great video. All roads lead to the workshop. Keep up the good work.
Have the same trouble with a ford 2600 usually put a air hose and blow back into tank. To harb to take out tank.

@@martin-vv9lf thanks Martin
You and Troy did a great job Phil. . Troy is a nice young fella. Love ur videos, tbry are always interesting. Cheers from Omagh, the aul lady. 😮
Push a small piece of plastic pipe down into the tap sticking up about 8 mm in tank no dirt will block the tap then
The steering wheel nut might need tightening looks loose Phil don’t want to be down the road at high speed in the 35 and it to come off in your hands

Dear little 35x, what a lovely little tractor for yard work. Thought you might have changed the fuel filter as well, maybe.👍

I agree there Diesel is still a fuel just like flammable petrol ⛽️
I THERE GOOD ..... but don't like running on the lumpy stuff.....😅🤪.. cracking vid sir nice work on the 35x the joys of simple machines... stay safe 🏴
Push a little bit of pipe into the top of the tap works a treat
Should use a tone dish with a strainer in it to clean the diesel going in to the tank old jars always some sort of dirt in them
Will they’re be any tidying / improving for the 6480 like new lights
Good to see you guys again ✔️
Next time when you take out the diesel tap put put a bit of a pipe
Some Massey's had a small mesh filter inside the tap
Keep Up The Good Work Philip
That was a great work 35 tarter keep up the good work

Has the tap got the plastic filter on top of it?
Good video,,,and. Keep on FARMING.
I had problem with ford 4000 coating in tank was problem.
Phil you should always start the tractor sitting in the seat nearly got caught myself once starting when I was standing beside it
Should be a plastic filter on the tap I could hear it rattling around in the tank when you were shaking it
was thinking that there was a brass filter on the tap back in the day on the one we had here
Did you clean or change the filter on the diesel tap
You weren't in Clara market today by any chance
Hi Phil, Do NOT put the gause back on the Tap. instead fit a plastic throw away filter between the Tap and the Diesel lift pump. two minutes to replace the filter in the future. Forty years at it.
Modern Diesel must be burnt soon after purches.
