If I see one more goddamn person calling Bulba Fett a bootleg I'm going to become fully Unmatched and forcibly collect all Spader-Man figures whether they like it or not.
8:19 Believe it or not, Spider-Man did make a web parachute in the comics so this toy is accurate. 10:02 It's either a camera or his Spider signal flashlight which he places on his belt.
I love that WatchMojo is so lazy that, not only do they use *your* footage in yet another lazy countdown list (does TH-cam even prefer that type of content anymore?), they don't bother to look up the validity of other entries in their list to verify whether they're authentic or not.
I assume the Venom figure might have been supposed to be filled with water and then shoot that out. But still pretty useless if it can't be pushed without breaking.
Yeah. It's the same mold as the "slime spores" Venom but instead of coming with black ooze that can leak out to replicate the symbiote's... symbiotiness via a plunger mechanism, they just gave it a water pump.
If only WatchMojo could recognize other great content... Or create good and inventive content... Or have actual thumbnail images for their videos instead of pasting whatever crap they found on Google images...
Back in 1998/1999, my friends and I would see the Spader-Man knock offs and we joked about it, and even came up with a song. To the tune of the 67 Spider-Man theme: “Spader-Man. Spader-Man. Does what ever James Spader can. Method Acts. Oscar picks. He hasn’t acted since 86’. Look out!….. here comes the Spader-Man.” Spader-Man vs The Mannequinn. Spader-man is Pretty in Pink. Spader-Man: into the Stargate.
Watchmojo barely knows what the hell they're doing nowadays! Seriously, the last couple of videos of theirs I even commented how much they missed a few details! But still, congrats Phelan =) Spader Man, lol, in an alternate universe James Cameron's Spider Man got made in the 90's and the role was played by James Spader =P
8:19 Look, I can see his parachute! He's okay. You know, it's funny, I remember when I first heard the name James Spader, in my head I kept thinking "It's James Spader-Man!" and now this set confirms someone else out there had the same stupid idea. Also I had the Toy Biz Venom that squirted the "alien liquid" as a kid. It was actually just black slime, which gunked everything up and made a big mess. Thanks Toy Biz!
My favorite part of these is Phelan playing with the toys. Honestly, when I pick up my niece's and nephew's room, I often find myself playing with their toys.
The belt buckle was a camera for battle damaged spider-man. he also came with a web back pack and the dr. octopus tentcle. I had the offical version as a kid.
Spader-Man sound like someone who would team up with Bob Barker to fix pets. Also, congrats on getting onto a WatchMojo list, it really is something to be proud of
I had the real version of that Venom figure. The hole in the back accommodated a hard plastic black plug which itself held a black disk with a rod coming out the center. Fully assembled it essentially turned the figure into a syringe. It was just a water shooting gimmick. From memory it could shoot out water with a pretty surprising amount of force too.
🎶Spader-Man, Spader-Man, does whatever a Spader can, he can swing, from a web, if he he falls, he'll be dead, look out, here comes the Spader-Man!🎶 Also the suction cup Spider-Man was also from the "Marvel Superheroes" line. I actually had that figure and I think the "Venom" one as well. Funny how someone found the molds to recreate them. I wonder if James Spader would approve. 🤣
Oh wow, these are bootlegs of figures I actually had as a child (and still have in a box somewhere) and these are all kinds of stupid. All that (stolen) art on the box gave me quite a nostalgia trip. I noticed some funny points you didn't mention in the video. The Carnage toy has one of his accessories _molded_ into his body. He's supposed to have a tendril that you can wrap around him in different areas or stretch out (like I did) to entangle his victims. The real one's mask definitely could fit. A little snug, but it worked, but unfortunately the real one also had a paint issue with mine having its eyes rub off pretty badly over the years. Looks like the other parts work fine enough though, like the giant blade hand, er, I mean, SHARP HAND and the multi-weapon hand. Never had that Venom, but it looks like you're supposed to squeeze that tube thing while it's underwater and then make it squirt water through his chest... which is just such a lazy gimmick to give Venom. That "Spader-Man UNMATCHED" with the SPADER-Man face is stolen from the Spider-Man Unlimited show. A short-lived series that you likely know about, given your extensive knowledge of obscure 80s and 90s things. It's an odd pairing given how that show is set on a strange world/dimension where Peter has been stranded to, with bizarre incarnations of his usual villains like Venom and Carnage who team up, and a good guy Green Goblin. Spidey also has a new suit that allows him to become invisible and stuff. You can see just how well represented that series is in this bootleg set. Just look how James this Spader-Man is! He's gonna rub some pink in your pretty eye.
Congratulations (I think?) on being featured in a WatchMojo video! They're not exactly my cup of tea, but they're pretty popular, so who knows what kind of traffic such a feature might bring to your fantastic channel? I'm always excited to see my favorite creators grow in popularity, and I'd be delighted to see more people appreciating all your hard work! As always, the best bit was watching you play with the toys, and I am very glad to see that Sharp Hand Joe remains the Sharp Hand Champion. I would be truly devastated if his hand were to dull in defeat! And thank you so much for the James Spaderman bits! A name like "Spaderman" all but BEGS for a James Spader reference or two, and you did it beautifully. Kudos! Thank you so much for this latest entry to the beloved Bootleg Zone. The belt buckle is supposed to be a camera and the silver hat is a backpack also for battle damage spader man. I had the real one. But by the end of the video you found that out lol. Guess I should have waited.
I had the Toy Biz release of the suction cup Spider-Man and mine also came with a big black web that didn't do anything. So the bootleg can't be blamed for that odd part. Also, I absolutely love that the red thing that goes with the Venom is clearly meant to be a solid piece made of soft plastic so it can accordion for a gimmick, but the bootleggers did not care in the slightest and just poorly cast it in the same plastic as everything else.
I actually had this exact set of figures as a kid. It was also a bootleg my parents bought while we were on vacation in Turkey but I remember it was called properly Spider-Man and the box was different. But the figures are the same. Also, the quality of my bootleg was much better, for example the Carnage mask actually looked decent and attached very smoothly unlike this one.
I can't believe they molded the plunger on the Venom bootleg in hard plastic and included the resulting uselessness, rather than...doing literally anything else. That's honestly hysterical.
The venom figure is a knock off from the toy biz figure that came with a container of goo that there plunger would push out the chest. The camera goes into the backpack (which is the thing you called the head crab from half-life) I only know this because these are all from the official toy biz figures and owned them all. 😂 Edit: made the comment before watching the entire video but there ya go, you had done the research 😂
