As a bassist of 27 years myself, U2 and Adam have been my #1 everything. Hearing this from Adam and what he went thru and still goes thru. This hits hits home for me as I too am an alcoholic! I can relate to him so very well and to hear this from Adam is so wonderful. What a nice, humble man. U2 is really a family!
adam, we love you! you may not read this. but im just a tiny part of u2's life as an avid fan. just remember how much we love you! always smile! ur smile during the montreal concert was so charming this is how we fell in love with you. bless u always and the band!
I just “stumbled” upon this as I recover from a brain injury. But I have used busyness to keep me “running” from dealing with depression and mental illness for years upon years!!! Great interview and thank you all for sharing, publicly, the traits that are often and popularly hidden.❤️
All credit to Adam Clayton for his candid honesty. Hopefully people in high profile positions like his can dispel some of the stigma associated with depression.
The next show he played after missing the one show because he was hungover is the "U2 Live in Sydney" show. I think that DVD is electric. His bass playing is so spot-on and the band is on fire. There are a few moments were you can tell that they are back as a band by some of the looks they give each other. Love U2.
Rock star is the hardest job ever. Kudos to Adam. I love this man to the end of the earth. He is so grounded and focused and real. I have seen U2 7 times including Shpere. I’ll never stop loving U2.
Couldn’t agree more. Each of the lads bring something to the table. I feel Bono is sometimes the fall guy to cover awkward questions. Respect to all of the U2 Org..
I went through emotional awakening also in a band situation,it was something that drove me under mentally emotionally physically my life now is in ruins, I’m ex bassist, last time i played was 2014.i still have my bass guitar but I’m now crippled living in north Dublin with nothing but my dreams, these deep emotions became unbearable to me so much so that i ended up in my own personal abyss 😢the place i call home is the pitch dark i have become accustomed to being trapped here that i no longer fear the darkness
+Sam Cox not necessarily but his involvement certainly adds weight to it. And having him there shows that though he's a multi-millionaire star and part of a World renowned Band, he's still human like the rest of them.
Ryan tubridy and Howard stern are the Fucking kings of interrupting people. Unlike Tommy Tiernan who actually gives the guests space and let’s the talk for more than 10 seconds
***** Born in England, hes Irish as far as we're concerned. Hes spent the vast majority of his life in Ireland since he was a child & carries an Irish passport. His accent is a mix of English & Dub.
Dnalsi TM Correct. And both Adam and Edge were born in the UK - Adam (to English parents) in Oxfordshire and Edge in East London (to Welsh parents). Both their families moved to Ireland when they were children and they then made their lives there. Also, Adam has a very typical "Queens English" accent, I certainly can't hear any Dub in his voice.
+Jordy Bos He was born in England but lived in Ireland since 5!. Hardly reason to have an English accent. Anyway he doesn't have an English accent. He sounds completely Irish. There's lots of variations of the Irish accent and he certainly has one.
darkdubh It's simply mothertongue... his mother used to speak to him in this peculiar accent of English since pregnancy, I believe. So, it doesn't matter where he lives now or how many years he'd lived in Ireland, mothertongue remains the same, it's biological, I think.
+darkdubh He does have an Irish accent. There are different variations of the Irish accent. The boy on as guest with him for example has a Dublin city accent. Different but of course equally Irish. The Irish accent people imitate in old films for example actually doesn't really exist.
Tonyo1221 I am from Ireland and am aware of variations in different types of Irish accent. To my ears Adam Claytons accent is very much British as opposed to posh Irish.
+darkdubh I'm British and I can tell you that his accent does not fit with any region of the UK. His accent has an Irish "twang" but is very much distinct in nature.
+Alexander_Supertramp92 I know a lot of Asian-born Americans who have spent less time in the US than they have in Asia, yet speak with distinct American accents when speaking in English. Odd isn't it?
Just want to give Adam a handshake and a hug! What a good man.
You know what Adam brings to U2 ? Soul. His personality reflects his playing. Love Adam Clayton as a musician and a human being.
If his personality reflects his playing then there's not a lot going on there. He's been playing the same 4 notes for 40 years : )
❤

The show he missed is on TH-cam now. His tech Stuart Morgan stood in for him.

Grande Adam!
Adam is so handsome!
Wow I never knew Adam struggled with depression and drinking
+apple-sauce neither did I... surprised here!!!
Notice how Adam doesn't sit down until his host waves him to do so.
Yes, you have a point there!
lets be real, no one cares what anyone here has to say but Clayton
+Sam Cox not necessarily but his involvement certainly adds weight to it. And having him there shows that though he's a multi-millionaire star and part of a World renowned Band, he's still human like the rest of them.

Why does Adam Clayton have an English accent?
Because he's English..., unlike Bono, Edge and Larry...
***** Born in England, hes Irish as far as we're concerned. Hes spent the vast majority of his life in Ireland since he was a child & carries an Irish passport. His accent is a mix of English & Dub.
Actually adam is english and the edge is welsh
