      Do you get the subwoofer bass in 2ch stereo? If yes, how did you do it? Because my V6A has absolutely no bass in 2ch stereo. And nobody seems to know why, that includes Yamaha themselves!!!😢 Forums suggest to run the front MAINS as full range, and activate EXTRA BASS. Weird bass management by Yamaha. The sad part is even if you do that, you can't save those settings into a SCENE. Now I've got to go to the menu settings every time and manually switch between 5.1 for movies, and 2ch stereo. Have never seen this in any Receiver!!!

    Awesome review. Have been going back and forth on Denon, Onkyo, and Yamaha. The Yamaha’s Aventage lineup looks great. I dabbled early with Pioneer Elite TVs & AVRs twenty years ago but ultimately, have since switched to two channel audio primarily due to complex set ups.
    Your review has demonstrated the improvements to OSD setups and Yamaha’s looks easy enough. Getting it to play fair and well with my Samsung q90r older tv will test my patience. Your post helped me reevaluate multichannel setups. Thanks.

    I was researching this receiver, and I don't know if you want to put an update on this, but Yamaha released a hardware update for older RX-A2A's to support uncompressed 4K120. Newer models are unaffected by the issue.

    I currently have a stereo receiver in the house, the Yamaha R-N602, which does a good job. As well as an integrated amplifier in the party basement, the A-S500, which is still great.
    If I were to buy an AV receiver, it would most likely be a Yamaha again. The devices simply have power. The price/performance ratio is really top. I'll go to Mediamarkt to test it out. Great video😳😳👍

    When you read the file information for the latest firmware update, you have to wonder if the other models the firmware supports aren't the same in basics for consideration in the less priced models vs. the more expensive. Same applies with motherboards in computers, one model is $300 and has two LAN ports on while another similar model only has one LAN port and is $169.
    Here is the name of the latest firmware from Yamaha: RX-A2A/RX-V6A/TSR-700 Firmware Update Ver.1.67

    They can’t update the hdmi 2.1 to work with series X and PS5 for 4K/120hz because it’s a hardware issue. It’s the Panasonic chip. The only work around is NOT to use hdmi2.1. Only option permanently is eARC.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe from what I’ve read the problem is only with uncompressed signals, the PS5 is a compressed signal so it should be ok. eARC might be permanent for the Xbox.

    Hello! Thanks for your video, I really enjoyed it. What I was waiting or hoping you would say is what your opinion was in a 5.1 channel setup, How was the sound from the A2A vs. the 385?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Both good, A2A can pump out more power though from what I remember, so at higher volumes with good speakers it should fare better but they’re both good

    • @marsh1118
      @marsh1118 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I bought the 385 to try out and so far it is super surprising. I’ve tried other $1000 (cdn) units and the sound wasn’t as good as the 385. If you’re okay with 5.1 and without networking, it’s sleeper in my mind. Simple, cheap, but does what it does very well. Was curious if the A2A is twice as good in the sound. Thanks!

    Amazing video! One question though, I have a gaming PC capable of 4k 120fps that I currently have plugged into my Yamaha RX-A2A. Should I have that plugged directly into my LG CX (I have the same TV as you) rather than routing it through the receiver? Thanks, you saved me a ton of time with this video!

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and yes I would connect it to the TV and use eARC to get sound. If you haven’t already, register your A2A with Yamaha cause they will be providing more info on changing the part to get it to work with 4K120. We may need to ship it to them

    Great review. I'm consider the Yamaha A2A vs the Denon AVR X2700. Difficult choice. I agree with you on the aesthetics of the A2A vs V6A. I don't like the curved corners. Same for Marantz. I prefer the styling of everything in the rack to be consistent.

      On second thought, just stay away from Yamaha! There's no bass in 2ch stereo. Even when the subwoofer is set to "use". You'd have to run your FRONTS in full range and activate EXTRA BASS to get sound output from the subwoofer. Terrible bass management! I'm considering going back to Onkyo. 😢

    They can't update this Yamaha receiver to support 4K/120 from Xbox Series X because it's a hardware and not a software issue. The problem is the Panasonic hdmi chip being used on some of these new Receivers. You have to wait for next year's model or later.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, that’s what I mentioned in the video. I realize it’s a hardware issue and that software can’t fix hardware but I’m curious what Yamaha is going to do. I agree, always safer to wait.

    • @megazine
      @megazine 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@landpet you did but I thought you said you “think” or “believe” in your video. I think Marantz/denin will allow customers to mail their receiver in and they will swap the chip if possible. I'm also going to pick up the Yamaha RX-A2A and just use eARC as a workaround. It's a shame this is our solution in the meantime. Then I figured maybe upgrading 4 year's down the road.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@megazine That's a safe bet. I'm glad to hear that Marantz/Denon is going to allow customers to ship them back. You're right, I did say those things, part of me believing in a workaround or to allow us to take it somewhere locally to get it swapped out at Yamaha's expense. Either way, it's a great receiver.

  • @tech4life884
    @tech4life884 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dolby Atmos works with regular ARC as well. Not just eARC. Also, just because this reciever has eARC doesn't mean it's going to work. Your TV also has to have eARC in order for eARC features to work. If your TV only has ARC, then eARC will never work on that tv.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, your TV, HDMI cable and Receiver must al have eARC to be fully compatible. There's debate whether ARC can handle Dolby Atmos or not, most places say it's not possible from what I've read.

    I bought one of these a few months ago and am using it with an LG nano tv. using the EARC the lip sync is so off its embarrassing. I contacted Crutchfield where I bought it and they recommended another hdmi cable. I tried it and no difference. maybe a little difference but the picture on the tv is so far ahead its pretty unacceptable. I ended up trying an optical cable and it seemed to be the difference. I have used 2 other systems with my tv one using optical and one using hdmi Earc and I didnt have this problem with either of those. I do not have any extra processing enabled on the tv or any special modes etc. I was thinking of contacting Yamaha. I spent over 3k on my entire system and it sounds great but the lip sync is so bad. and there is lip sync correction on both the reciever and tv but they only go the other way. any thoughts aprecciated.

      Just made my new review video, I talk about the differences quickly, whatever I could find, will be posting it in the next couple days.
      A2A vs V6A
      1. Remote upgrade
      2. Bigger filter capacitors on A2A (10000uF) vs V6A (8200uF ), bigger capacitors means they can store more charge which translates to packs more punch and higher dynamics.
      3. Removable power cord
      4. Fifth footh (A.R.T) producing more accurate sound
      5. 5 year warranty (3 year plus 2 year promo)
      6. Programmable IR
      7. Compatible with all main control companies.
      8. Boxy shape vs sort of curved shape

    I really appreciated that you showed the speed of input switching. I rarely see that in other review videos, but it is a critical part of daily use. It seems acceptably fast.
    The RX-A1080 is currently just around 100 USD more than the RX-A2A so I’ve been considering it.
    Since that has a better DAC, SurroundAI etc., I’m trying to decide if it makes sense to get that over the A2A despite the 4K 120 and Height Virtualization features.
    Does anybody here know if there was an improvement in speed of changing inputs in this new line compared to the RX-A1080 or RX-A880?
    I have never seen the speed of input changes in these models so I don’t know if it is the same or worse than the new line.

    • @landpet

      Yes input switching is important to me, that's one of my factors for consideration as well since I have a few devices hooked up. Thought it might be useful to others as well. It just depends what's more important to you, I personally would go with the A2A cause of the 4K120 for the PS5, XBOX Series X.

I have a sub that I can use to to take some of the strain off the Receiver. I can hook up a amplifier to the fronts know but what about the surround channels ? I could have gotten this Receiver for 559.99 open box in excellent condition!! I was debating Saving up more for the rxa 1080 but I really like the looks of the Rxa2a more than the 1080. Almost impossible to "compare" these AV's on Yamahas website however, with some models, they do populate the same "family" of receivers with others for comparison. However, lets say you want to compare the RX-V6A to this RX-A2A the website won't allow that. Currently, this A2A sells for less than the V6A so what are the differences? This A2A vs. the A4A has a huge difference in total weight, a whole 13 pounds heavier for the A4A so what is it, amplifiers are better quality or?

I have all the settings on my tv as you show and a proper cable (tried a second one as well) although the tv shows the A2A as sound out I get no audio to the A2A from the Tv. • @landpet
      @landpet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!
      To clarify, assuming I undertstood this correctly the ps4 pro to A2A then TV should work without issues. In this case, you are not using eARC. eARC is only used when the TV is transmitting audio to the A2A or the source is hooked up to the TV then the TV is sending the audio to the A2A. If a device is connected to the A2A first, it’s not considered eARC.
      I believe (from the information provided) you need to change your input source on your A2A. Make sure your TV is still set on A2A for sounds out and cycle through the input sources on your A2A (not on your TV) and you will get sound. Off of memory, the hdmi source should be set to “TV” or “AV1” on the A2A. If this doesn’t work, try changing the source on your A2A until you get sound. I don’t have my A2A hooked up now so I’m just guessing.
      I’m also assuming you’re using a cable that supports eARC and it’s hooked up from your HDMI2 port on your TV which should be your eARC port since I have the same tv to the HDMI out on your A2A.

      When I am using my LG tv to stream Netflix etc. I believe the Digital output from the tv will supply audio to the Yamaha's Digital input. I have both connected, HDMI and the Digital and always have good sound. I had a Vizio smart TV and the options menu was more direct and functional than this newer LG which is "software" based when it comes to eARC, sound etc. Sometimes the TV speakers are automatically selected and when I would use a different HDMI input such as BluRay or my Hopper, the sound appears through the Yamaha then I switch back to the other HDMI input and the LG software carries the sound with the video on that input once again. I never had this concern with the Vizio settings as it was not software switched when changing HDMI inputs...you used the remote to get HDMI 2 or 3 etc. and both sound and video were performed by that selection vs. the LG having to do some sort or "handshake" communication that fails now and then. Probably related to which version of HDMI the Yamaha has vs the TV such as HDMI 2.1 TV but 2.3 Yamaha...not the same.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!
      You need to set it to the source on the receiver, on the switch and on the projector.
      Let's ignore the switch for one second unless you meant the Nintendo Switch.
      Example:
      You have an XBOX connected to HDMI1 on the receiver and a Playstation connected to HDMI2 on the receiver. From the reciever HDMI out, you go to HDMI4 on your Projector. You also have an Amazon Fire TV stick connected directly to your projectors HDMI3 port.
      If you wanted to see the Playstation, you would need to set the input source on the receiver to HDMI2 and set the projector to HDMI4.
      If you wanted to see the XBOX, you would need to set the receiver input source to HDMI1 on the receiver and set the projector to HDMI4.
      If you wanted to see the Amazon Fire TV stick, you would set the receiver to TV and set the projector to HDMI3 and enable HDMI eARC or ARC to get sound from the receiver. Assuming your projector and HDMI cable support eARC/ARC. This receiver does support eARC and ARC.
      Finally, if you actually meant an HDMI switch and not a Nintendo Switch. Then you would just set the switch to the correct HDMI source as well as set the receiver to the HDMI port the switch is connected to and set the projector to HDMI4 as I mentioned in this example. Again assuming your receiver was going from HDMI out to HDMI4 port on your projector.
      Hope this helps!

    Good review. I am going to need a new AVR since my current one is showing signs of dying (10 yrs). It is a 7.2 channel Onkyo TX-NR609 and I run it as a 7.2 setup. Was going to consider the RX-V6A but on Yamaha website saw that the RX-A2A will be coming soon for just a few hundred more RRP.
    Question 1. Is performance wise both the same?
    Question 2. Which one is more future proof?
    Question 3. Can my current 7.2 speakers set up supported by RX-A2A and run in Dolby Atmos mode?
    Question 4. Need to get a 4K TV in near future to replace my FHD TV with ARC and which models do you recommend?
    Question 5. Which HDMI 2.1 cable do you recommend? Still using HDMI 1.4 in my current set up.
    Question 6. Still watching lots of BD and DVD. Planning to get a 4K BD player to replace my aging BD player. Any issue using the AVR? Do I need HDMI 2.1 cable for the BD player too and for every other devices?
    Thanks and keep up the good work!
    PS the Yamaha unit was made in Malaysia which was my birth country. I had been to the Yamaha factory when I was working in the AV electronics industry.

      Just a heads up, I did another review on this receiver where at the beginning I compare it to the V6A. th-cam.com/video/z4isbm9T2Cs/w-d-xo.html
      1) Pretty much very similar, A2A does have the advantage at higher volumes because of the larger capacitors.
      2) I think they're pretty much equivalent in the future proof departments because from what I've seen from various sources, they each have 3 hdmi 2.1 sources for 4K120 or 8K60. Crutchfield mentions this thing has 7 hdmi 2.1 inputs but it looks like it's 3 hdmi 2.1 inputs from all the other sources which makes sense cause there is a line between hdmi 1-3 and 4-7 just like on the V6A.
      3) Yes you can use your existing speakers to run it in Atmos. I'm not 100% sure on the second sub, I believe it will work but since I only have 1 sub, I can't test that. Your 7.2 will become a 5.2.2 (assuming the A2A can support the second sub in Atmos). Reason why is because in the manual, it only mentions a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos setup. Dolby Atmos is object based sound, so they don't necessarily have to be in the ceiling for it to work but from the examples I've seen, ceiling does seem to be a preferred location (or directional to the ceiling) speakers.
      4) Depends on your budget, I very recently got the LG CX OLED 65" (amzn.to/3o5esGN) and I love it. It is absolutely an amazing TV. The Sony X900H (amzn.to/3n6K1yx) is more budget friendly and can still do 4K120. If you don't care about 4K120 and just want a normal 4K60 TV, then you can get an entry level Samsung (amzn.to/3b4ltDY) or something of that nature. I personally prefer the LG CX OLED.
      5) These (amzn.to/3gGB5P7) are the cable I'm using, seem to be working fine.
      6) HDMI 2.1 is used for 4K120 or 8K60 which isn't enabled yet (it will be with a future firmware update). You don't need that to watch BD unless the BD player and the movie support 4K120 which I don't believe they are available just yet. The only popular devices that use HDMI 2.1 are the XBOX Series X, the Playstation 5, the RTX 3000 series cards and the Radeon 6800/6900XT video cards.
      That's awesome you've been there, is it a huge factory? It's pretty amazing how this stuff gets put together.

      @@landpet Thanks for the reply. The factory is pretty big. I was able to visit some of the other major brands as well during my time in the AV electronics industry. If one looks at the back of some of the major brands, they will most likely be built in Malaysia. Sony, Denon and Onkyo are some of them. Still tossing between the RX-V6A or the RX-A2A but since the latter is yet to be available, perhaps more time to consider.

      @@davidchongmy That's awesome! Yeah, I will say that both receivers are good, can't go wrong either way.

      @@landpet Yeah I think so too. Just wonder if the RX-A2A worth the extra outlay over the RX-V6A.

    I was going to get the RX-V6A but it seems they all have the HDMI 2.1 Panasonic chip which doesn’t allow 4K/120hz. Basically my best option is just to use eARC and connect all my HDMI’s to my LG-CX hdmi 2.1 inputs?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah at least for now. PS5 should be ok cause from what I’ve read it’s a 4K120FPS compressed signal. The problem is with uncompressed signals which is the Xbox Series X. eARC is the way to go either way cause no firmware update yet anyways

    Great video, and very appreciated! I am setting up my new RX-A2A that just arrived today. I am unable to get the Zone2 to work. I have a 5.1 setup and just adding a speaker pair for a second room as Zone2. I am not sure how to tell the settings that I am using the Front Presence L-R speaker ports as my Zone2. Any suggestions appreciated!

      Thank you! I had consulted the manual you shared but to no avail. I finally solved it by realizing the receiver needed to be set up as 7.1. Voila! Now I have been unable to solve the next big problem…I cannot get it to produce output to the subwoofer. YPAO does not detect a sub. I have tried 3 different subs, 2 A2A receivers, and even tried a new sub cable to eliminate the issue. Same result. Any ideas?

      Update: Crutchfield concludes its a bad sub. Replacement coming.

    Hi, I have an older model TV that does not have an HDMI ARC port. It does come with optical audio cable. Question is, if I hook up the receiver HDMI cable to my regular HDMI port will I still get sound through the optical audio? Thanks!

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can get audio through an optical cable., granted I haven’t tried it. The HDMI in your case is only used to send video and/or audio from your receiver to your tv.

    Hello What the better ? Yamaha rxa 2a or yamaha rxa 2080 or 3080 ? Thanks

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2080 and 3080 are "better", they are higher end models but they will be replaced with the A6A and A8A this year or next. This A2A is the lowest end Aventage line, however this does support hdmi 2.1 where the others do not.

    Great video. Regarding pass thru, my receiver always turns on when I power on my ps4. And if I turn off the receiver the image drops. How do you use pass thru? Thank you

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Verify pass through is enabled int he receiver options. When you turn off the receiver, it does turn off the image for a few seconds during the switching process, then it comes back.
