Why the Hutts Waited Five Years to Return to Tatooine in The Book of Boba Fett

  • Why did the Hutts leave Jabba's throne unoccupied for five years? Why did they let Bib Fortuna and then Boba Fett swoop in and take their territory? The War of the Bounty Hunters comics have a very likely answer.

I kinda assumed the last thing you brought up - that Bib was working for the Hutts, like a local governor, because they didn't want to be hands on at all (at least for now). Boba killing him off and taking over got in the way of that and forced them to intervene.

Given that a Hutts aren’t considered adults until they are 200 years old, and the last time we saw Rotta he was around 10 (the equivalent of a 1 year old), I think that is highly unlikely that we will be seeing rotta anytime soon. Even given the 27 gap between series, Ge would still only be around 37 (practically 4 in Hutt years).
Even if we go further to the time of Rise of Skywalker, he would still only be about 64 years (6 in hutts years).
P.s For every 10 years, a Hutt ages 1 year, with an example being Janna who at the time of his death was 600, and thus would only be 60 Hutt years.

  • @MrMartechi

I didn't even get the sense that the Twins "just showed up" out of nowhere. The way everybody reacted to Boba and kept talking about the litter, it almost felt like the Twins actually were in power on Tatooine for a while already, and just nobody thought to interfere with their inevitable feud when Boba took over the Palace. Sure, it's where Jabba hung out most of the time but I'd fully expect the hutts to maintain many different palaces and residences across the planet, as any good crime-lord/dictator/aristocrat would.
Honestly, it would be a bit of a nice comedic/ironic twist if it turns out Boba was so dead-set on getting to Jabbas old throne, he simply overlooked the true crime lords.

... Why is that Hutt so jacked?!?
I feel like the Hutts where able to get Bib to more or less cooperate with them, favorable payouts or whatever to the Hutts in return for uncontested rule over Jabba's holdings. Once Boba Kills Bib the Hutts feel like they need to send someone stronger/loyal to regain control. After all we see Jabba rule for at least 60 years bib didn't seem to make it 5, so enter the twins.
I do like the concept of Bib being a steward for Jabba's son but Boba calls him a usurper leaving me to thank that wasn't the case. The Twins could still be, and throwing a 'teenage' Hutt into the show, like Joffrey in space sounds just like an awful Disney thing to do >XD. The crew handling this seem to be above that sort of thing though, so here's to hoping Ep3 gives us some quality time in the 'Present', expecting sort of the yin to last weeks yang as it where. Although, so far my expectations have all been pleasantly subverted so who knows what will happen next >XD the whole series could end up being 95% Tuskens

The place of time the series is taking place in is basically during a time of transition between the New Republic and the Fall of the Empire. Such things due to how it happened, isn't likely overnight so the Hutts decided to take the opportunity to act then. As it was safer for them to make a move.

I know they have hyper drives and etc, but it would make sense if the reason why it took 5 years was just simply because of distance
Maybe it takes 5 year to get to Tatooine from Nal Hutta or where ever the twins came from

Yeah, the fact that they would show up right after Boba? Coincidence. But the fact that they would show up right after Jabba's former majordomo, who'd been sitting on the throne in the meantime, was killed and deposed? That doesn't feel like coincidence to me.
Considering the state of the Palace and its lack of retinue, and Boba's line about the Twins being 'preoccupied with the debauchery of Hutta' (paraphrased because I don't remember the line precisely), I suspect Tatooine isn't particularly important to the Twins in terms of revenue. They're well-off enough to be debauched on their homeworld, after all, and to hire somebody like Black Krrrsanten. Bib may have been working for them, funnelling tribute their way and acting as a figurehead, or they may have simply not cared enough about Tatooine so long as the senior member of Jabba's staff was occupying the throne. But when Boba comes along and stakes a claim on what's rightfully theirs, no matter how unimportant they consider it, that's a slap in the face that has to be addressed.

Honestly I think the hutts have been without strong leadership for a while And probably have been scrambling/working to regain their prestige. In fact I think this little show of force they put on is more out of fear than actual power.

Loving the thought that people think being a gangster leader is somehow similar to being a royal! "Shouldn't it pass to Rotta?" WTF Jabba was killed, there was a power vacuum. Bib Fortuna jumped in but obviously wasn't right for it and was basically sitting on nothing with no backup.
Its also quite clear to see that Jabba and the Hutt species were created for ROTJ because Jabba fits his role in that movie perfectly where as everything about the Hutt species doesn't fit with anything else any of them ever do. I mean a Hutt is a slow defenceless thing that could never come to any kind of power, it would be killed very easily by just about anything. Hutt vs Bantha I'm thinking Bantha wins.
However a one off Hutt that's bought a few of the best bounty hunters for protection and to bring in some money now that's believable, obviously there are some people/creatures who want to stay on the right side and so the loyalty grows and so Jabba's influence grows and he becomes a gangster boss, that's totally possible. What is unbelievable is the presented stance that ALL Hutts are in that situation where they clearly wouldn't be.
Jabba on his own was just fine.

Idk if I'm remembering this right or not but didn't Cobb vanth and his crew pick up a hutlet in one of the aftermath books.. and that's why he recruited malakili (Ik I probably spelt that wrong) to raise it... I always kinda thought that could have been Rotta.

I don't think the Hutts knew everything that was occurring on Tattoine. *If* we take at face value that the assassins were sent by the Hutts, we need to ask why he thought Jabba's Palace still had a Rancor. Anyone who was present in ROTJ would know it was killed. I think they waited, because they didn't actually know what was going on.

Starwars has always had the problem of moving at the speed off the plot, so the twins showing up at the most plot convenient time should just be thrown on the pile of "convenient developments for the sake of story".

This would make sense as an explanation to me. I haven't read the War of the Bounty Hunters comic, everybody fighting over Han seemed an odd concept to me, but this instability and conflict within the Hutt 'dynasty' would make a fair explanation for their lack of presence on Tatooine. Also makes sense that Jabba's son might still be very young.
