Did you mention that part of Reagan's Iran Contra deal was that Iran would hold the American hostages until he took office so he could take credit? This resulted in the American hostages being held even longer than they would have been.

Holy Crap! I'm an 80's kid in the USA...and had NO IDEA! I've heard of Iran-Contra but never learned anything at all about it. This is INSANE! Thank you for this podcast!

OK, here is something a bit more intelligent to say about the topic: in "Arsenals of Folly" (R.Rhodes), Reagan is described as having an "anecdotic, rather than academic, understanding of history". In the light of the podcast, I think it is quite fitting.

Good afternoon from the soggy SF Bay Area. In the mid 60's my father, a Navy Chaplain and lifetime Republican, met Reagan at a function and got his autograph for me. Several years later when I was old enough to understand who and what he was I threw it away. The irony is that by the 70's, when Reagan was governor of California, my dad had retired from the Navy and was a Social Worker in the California State system. He saw up close what the terrible policies of that man did to very sick and mentally unstable people by throwing them out onto the streets with a bottle of meds and a good luck, and closing hospitals. My dad became a Democrat and did not vote for Republicans after that. I knew a lot of the stuff you are telling here but it is way more fun listening to you than having lived through it. Trickle down, my *ss. Happy New Year! Love you. Here's my Christmas greeting. th-cam.com/video/ssHn0L32sNQ/w-d-xo.html

A friend of mine has connections in the US military. He told me just the other day that Oliver North got by 2 Section 8 inquiries in the Marines. He was certifiable. Very similar to G. Gordon Liddy…. And Iran-Contra was a huge deal that was largely swept under the rug. Reagan and his administration did a lot more damage than they are given blame for.

As a proud American Republican I would like to mention that Reagan's movie, Bedtime For Bonzo, might have been this greatest contribution to our country. The only other Republicans who have starred in a movie with an ape are Clint Eastwood and Charlton Heston If only Trump would do a movie with an ape it would Make America Great Again, or maybe Make Apes Great Again. Americans would "go ape" for this movie.

It’s not the tax cuts but increased government spending and a bulge in demographics! This was the height of a huge baby boom generation entering the workforce, buying cheap cars and houses, and having computer technology to expand American productivity. It was merely a parallel of vectors that converged together.

The US House was still controlled by Democrats, and they didn't cut spending after agreeing to in exchange for Social Security tax increases in '82. Deficits declined steadily after '82. The PATCO strike firing had a big impact on the Soviets' view of Reagan.

Sorry guys, but the numbers tell a different story about the economy. Especially in 2023. Cutting taxes, lowering regulations, a common monetary policy, and cutting government spending is what keeps a healthy economy. The U.S. just has to service the debt.
