Axial makes a great product. No one touches how scale they make them look. As for function, upgrades are needed for this one, but it really depends on how far you wanna take it. You're hitting my series at the right time. I'll give you honest opinions for this truck and the upgrades. First off, it will need links. Then have some fun with it till something breaks. Then servo and shocks.
The first couple of things you should consider is the Axial Aluminum link set. It includes the steering linkage, which is one of the weakest points on the truck. Next is the steering servo. It just needs more torque. I'm running the Savox 1283sg. Really those are the musts out of the gate, but really there's so much you can do with this truck! Also other "free" upgrades would include cutting the bumpstops off of the shocks for better articulation and longer travel. Then just run it!
Yes, two batteries at the same time. MAke sure they are identical lipos. Never run slightly different mah or c ratings. The XTM uses "bullet style" connectors and Hobby People sells the adapter to but the batteries in "series" Otherwise, you can solder on a "deans" plug on your ESC and buy a "series" adapter (all Deans) and that will run Two 2s lipos as one 4s lipo. There is also a "parallel" adapter that will run two 2s lipos as one 2s lipo with double the mah (or run time)
Best battery! I run the 5000mah 50c's. I've got 4 of them and they are great. For about $35 approx, they can't be beat! Also search for coupons for Hobbypartz. You usually can find a 10% off one
It was just plain rubber washers from a hardware store. I got mine at Lowe's, Hilman was the name brand. As for size, 1/16th" thick and big enough to fit the bodypost rod.
If you already own the Turnigy's, they will work. If you are purchasing, take a look at the Gensace 5000mah 40c batteries from hobby partz. Basically the more c the better and less strain on the electronics trying to push that buggy. When the turnigy's state 25-50c, it's really 25c continuous.
For $299 (the price I got it for at Hobby People on sale), it's a great value for a brushless 1/8th scale buggy.. Great airtronics 2.4ghz remote, great 2370 kv motor, great looks! Now for the bads......The ESC placement being way on top waiting to get hit on a roll over, brittle plastic on the upper control arms and front a arms, and bad design of the battery trays. If you check my vids, I have one entitled "XT2e Must needed mods all for $60" This addresses these issues.
Yeah, well if I do get one, I got to find an adapter to go from the 4mm bullets on the esc to the deans on the gens ace. And if I want to hook up 2, I got to get an adapter to go from 2 deans to the 4mm bullet, or I might solder on a deans like you said.
I mentioned that they would be upgraded, but I'm up in the air right now. I will probably run 1.9's to compete in the legit G6 events, but not sure if I want an aluminum set of just some Axial 8 holes. I will probably run Proline TSL's
I have been mostly running in dirt trails, not much rock. Have also had really good results with the pro-line TSL SUPER SWAMPERS not as tall as pitbulls but great bite
Don't waste your time with adapters. With all that voltage (4s) the less the better. Just solder on a Dean's on the ESC and get the Dean's series adapter
But, don't make that sway you, the negatives that is. You can't get any 1/8th scale buggy for $299! Even my next buggy, the OFNA Hyper 9e was $399 for the roller and another $300 for the motor/esc, servo, batteries another $150 and then you still need a radio/rcv. You'll be at $800 before you know it!
AWESOME! Thanks, ok, since you have had it, I was wondering what batteries you used in it to get the best performance out of it and I was wondering if a Turnigy nano-tech 5000mah 2S 25~50C Lipo Pack would be enough to make it last for a long time while giving great performance and speed.
Well thanks to your videos of the XTM XT2e, which I have some questions about, you have been added to my watch list! Nice reviews and videos! Do you reckon you can answer a small question I have about the XT2e?
Yeah I have watched it, if and when i get it, I plan to do it up a bit like yours, just with the front arms and the esc if I can, as like I said, I'm really on the edge of my budget, and I don't wanna have to buy more stuff online.
Yeah, apparently those bullet connectors are of crap quality, so I plan to replace the esc, batteries and charging adapter connectors with the solid bullets, which are a helluva lot better quality. But, I will try out the bullets on there first.
Hey Rich, What body post washers did you use ?? any chance of a brand name and part number please. The body rattle on my Honcho is starting to annoy me and id like to eliminate it. Also thanks for the time and effort you put into the SCX10 vid's, they have helped me heaps when upgrading and working on my rig.
Ok, but it depends if they are expensive or not, and what the postage is, cause im in australia. I'm planning to get the XT2e from amain hobbies as they are the only ones that have it, but the postage is $79, so I'm paying $410 for it, plus the rest for charger, battery, adapters, etc. I really am on the edge of my budget.
I'm planning on buying one of these. Would you recommend it? What are the issues you've had so far? On a scale of 1 - 10, what rating would you give it?
Really? Cool. Also, one more question, is it really worth getting, I have done my research and I think I am going to get it, but I just want the opinion of someone who has had it for a while.
I'd rather break a piece of plastic than having something goes wrong with aluminium. Because plastic is cheap. And not everyone can afford all the aluminium.
The original Honcho was a kit version (made about 2-3 years ago). Now the only kits are the Dingo (1" smaller wheel base), Jeep Wrangler Hard Top and the Jeep Recon G6 (both Jeeps have the Honchos wheelbase, I believe)
I love the style and design of the Honcho but don't really want to buy an RTR just to turn around and gut it. So maybe a modified CKRC G6 with a Honcho body?

Cool deal, I was thinking of turning the body posts as well
I am doing the same project. Check out the pit bull rockbeast tires and the gear head wheels.
Yeah, the TSL's are top on my list
If you go Turnigy's, I believe there's an Aus warehouse you can choose
Yeah, well if I do get one, I got to find an adapter to go from the 4mm bullets on the esc to the deans on the gens ace. And if I want to hook up 2, I got to get an adapter to go from 2 deans to the 4mm bullet, or I might solder on a deans like you said.
Hey thanks! I DL'd it and may use it in the future

No, but they fit the Gensace 5000mah 40c 2s lipos perfectly The Hardcase ones

No problem, anytime
I was checking out the Pitbull's. Theyre huge and kinda pricey, burt I wouldn't be doing RC if it were cheap and boring!
Yeah I have watched it, if and when i get it, I plan to do it up a bit like yours, just with the front arms and the esc if I can, as like I said, I'm really on the edge of my budget, and I don't wanna have to buy more stuff online.
WELL, at least I have ur advice now.
Well, thanks for all the help! Can I come to you if I have some other questions?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Nope, Dean's is Dean's
Yeah, but theres my budget and the shipping, considering Im in Australia. I might look at em though.
WOW! THAT'S EXPENSIVE!!
Awesome plans! Keep it up. :)
Hey Rich,

I really am on the edge of my budget.
I'm not sure but I don't think I heard u mention anything about runs n tires
And yeah, just found out the postage. I only want to get if they are good.
Hey Man Great Videos!!
ok, well I guess if I find the dimensions on the gens ace, I'll get the dimensions of the boxes.
Yeah I think I will, What should I use, parallel or series adapter?
im plannin on gettin one of the trail honcho..what are the first upgrades should i get?
One more thing, do you know the exact dimensions of the original plastic battery boxes on the XT2e?
I'm planning on buying one of these. Would you recommend it? What are the issues you've had so far? On a scale of 1 - 10, what rating would you give it?
Def go 1.9! looks better imo
A Deans connector is a T connector right?
Also, did you run 2 batteries at the same time? If so, how did you connect them?
Well, I think they are the same
Sorry for bombarding you with questions.
Have you got those Gensace? Are they good value and do they provide good performance?
Really? Cool. Also, one more question, is it really worth getting, I have done my research and I think I am going to get it, but I just want the opinion of someone who has had it for a while.
Series
The XT2e was one of my first vehicles! Ask anything!
Can you add me as a contact cause I want to send you a private message, or should I email you on Gmail?
For the price all those plastic, flexible links are total bs. Too much plastic on the chassis on this overprice truck.
supercommando440 For some people flexible plastic does the trick for an RTR. Look at RPM, they base everything on flexing plastic vs breaking! lol
I'd rather break a piece of plastic than having something goes wrong with aluminium. Because plastic is cheap. And not everyone can afford all the aluminium.
Is there a kit version of the Honcho? I looked at the Dingo but the wheelbase was a little different.

I also did the Pro-Line f-250 body with the honcho rear cage and it turned out nice.
It's to expensive
