Tip: if possible get a long scale one (27-28") it will make your life much easier for playing these infra-low tunings haha

fellow 6 string enjoyer lmao, i keep mine in double drop f# (octave between the 2 lowest strings ex. Architects) and need to get all fucky wucky to accomodate IA songs, hats off to you my man. mind telling the tunings for each string?
I use the normal drop but missing the 4th string mostly (so I have the 3 highs and lows of a 7 string)

How did you tune the Chapman for Heavener? (the self titled track) The original is in Drop D# on a 7 string. Can you provide the notes for each string? My guess is D# A# G# C# F A#?

Hey dude! The band launched the official tabs a time ago,
I learnt them by ear and just had to mess with the tuning and fingering for each song
What type of music theory I need to study to write and play riffs like this?
And what are the most common techniques?
Theory: major/minor scale and syncopation
Technique: string skipping, octave jumps, tapping.
these ones came to mind, hope it helps 👍
for these types of riffs i think honestly just throw theory out of the window and try to come up with something that sounds good. a lot of strange notes, octave jumps, chromaticism and tritones being used which completely breaks the standard of whats "good" by music theory standards

Exactly, that's the purpose of the baritone. The neck scale is 28" so it can handle tension better.

well, it'd only give them access to more range, but also makes playing a little more difficult in some areas. it's not a necessity. as you see... this guy is playing it on a 6 string, you just have to adjust some parts, transcribe things a little differently. maybe alternate the tuning. but it doesn't really make a huge difference for some styles of riffing.
an 8 string is not very comfortable for these technical riffs, and afaik they just tune down to d# from drop f# so string tension is not an issue for them
I think Keaton said why didn’t they use an 8 string on the record was because he got that evertuned prestige & they wrote a lot of the record while they were touring so he just had the seven on hand. But I could be wrong

@@freddyguitar before I played each one, yup. Sometimes the 4th wasn't necessary or the 5th (based off the 7 string tuning they use)
