It's photoelectronic timing. They don't "give" it to anyone. The photo timer extends the image horizontally and assigns the times.

Lewis peaked too early. He was way better here than in the trails two months later.
Carl was already a legend for more than a decade then to come and beat the up and comers, Bailey Green & Mitchell is something special
The Delaware Valley took three out of four places. Great work!
Lewis looked good. But then he didn't even make the U.S. team in the 100 at their Olympic trials. Bailey was coming on and looked like he would go by everyone but then he just stopped gaining after about 75m while Lewis kept gaining. Carl didn't even get a chance to run the relay at the Olympics although he of course still won the LJ. Bailey of course worked on his form and his speed endurance so that when it counted he was able to keep gaining and go by everybody to win. This was interesting to look back and see this race earlier in the Olympic year.
i guess a lot of the guys were in heavy training in order to peak for the olympics in late july

Bailey was the best for a minute. His "reign" was short like Buster Douglas's
he had 3 good championships (1995, 96 and 97) with 2 gold 1 silver and then tore his Achilles which most never come back from
Donovan was terrific for this 3 years. The 1v1 cost him though because even though MJ pulled up injured, I believe DB got injured from that too. Great, great sprinter. In this particular race , he used it as a training run because he was the man when it mattered most. Just like Carl did for years before.

Carl's problem at that age was he couldn't run several rounds, I don't think he made the US 100 or 200 team in 96.
Carl Lewis, to me, is the Muhammad Ali of Men's Track and Field.

watching greene in lane 2...u can see how he bursts out with the same kind of intensity as 2000, but cant hold his form for very long. yet 4 years later he was miraculously stronger and able to keep that power burst for the entire race....

Ya let's be honest. I've run enough track to know, you don't run 10.17 wind aided. To 9.7's, 2 years later. You know how hard it is to improve a tenth at lower levels let alone when you're pushing the body to the brink of injury.
@@rich8381 funny how Bolt 9.9 to 9.6 SAFP 11.35 to 10.70, Blake, Carter, Ashmeade, Elaine Thompson all made astonishing gains all in ONE year, not even GDR athletes or even Flo Jos 200m time went down that much in that short amount of time. all in the same place where drug testing off season simply didnt exist and where Powell had been running world records.looking back on 2008-2016 Jamaica were taking the piss
@@cattycats4 the Jamaicans are the only ones not a part of the same testing pool. No way such a small country consistently pushes out that many consider the population of the USA. Not to mention, look it the infrastructure and college programs. Best of the best. Jamaicans don't have the same testing and like the country isn't behind the revenue it generates them.

oh rubbish. lewis never doped and if he did then he should get his money back cos he went from 10.00 in 1981 to 9.86 in 1991..when adjusted for wind he managed to improve less than 0.01s per year. thats some pretty crappy dope when BJ improved by half a second in 2 years on a weak anabolic like winstrol.
Carl Lewis fastest ever was 9.78
with a tornado behind him yes.
