    There was also a deleted scene where we see luthor taken away along with the depowered Super villians off in four snow vehicles after Superman refuses Luthor's deal to "wipe the slate" clean

    This was in the tv version the Salkinds threw together. Donner didn't get a chance to film them going back to retrieve Lois and Lex just cuts to the theatrical entrance of them flying in on their backs cuz Hackman wouldn't come back to shoot for Lester, possibly due to scheduling conflicts, other commitments, or loyalty to Donner.

      Steven Joiner If that's true, he seriously needs to be in an episode of "Supergirl" on the CW. They already have had Sarah Douglas and even though they had a General Non in the series, Jack's portrayal of Non was fantastic. I know Terence Stamp's voice was in the series "Smallville" and Zod was mentioned in "Supergirl", but it would be great see Jack O'Halloran again.

    • @ralphgoodman4670
      @ralphgoodman4670 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mighty Icesis NO, he WANTED to be a normal person, feeling that he had fulfilled his obligation in Superman I. It was AFTER he lost his powers, that he gave up his love to RETURN to becoming Superman, out of sense of DUTY, including losing the ghost of of his father, because Jor-El could only restore Superman's powers by using his final essence to do it. And after that, Superman and Lois couldn't be together again, so Superman reversed time again and erased everything-- and Zod went back into the Phantom Zone as before, undoing all the damage that Zod did.
      That was in the Donner-cut... and WB should have been SHOT for cheaping out so they didn't have to pay Brando. Seriously, a nuke on the Eiffel Tower? SERIOUSLY?
      The Donner-cut showed the original Hackensack-nuke releasing Zod from the Phantom Zone, after Superman threw it into outer space and it exploded. THAT made sense, since he had promised Eva Teschmacher that he'd save Hackensack rather than California. Otherwise New Jersey would have gotten trashed, and Zod would have remained in the Phantom Zone.

    This is where the Marvel v DC movie war breaks down.
    Marvel fans don't recognise any film with Marvel characters which wasn't made by Marvel Studios. So they claim that Marvel have had no duds, because films that came out before Marvel Studios weren't part of the MCU.
    These same Marvel fantards say that there has never been a great DC movie.
    But, DC don't have their own movie studio, so, therefore, EVERY DC movie made is recognized.
    So when Marvel fans say that DC have not had any decent movies, point to Superman I and II, The Burton Batman films, and the Dark Knight series of films. The "DCU" doesn't exist, because Warner Bros make all the DC movies, from Superman I to "Justice League".

    To be honest, I can see why most of these deleted scenes were deleted, they were completely unnecessary and often kind of badly delivered. The Donner cut, as much as I fully think that Richard Donner should have been allowed to complete making both movies, is full of alternative cuts that are weaker with a lot of bad delivery in them. It's a nice little novelty to see a different edit of the movie but it's not a very good one. The problem was far more fundamental. Donner should not have been replaced by the moronic studio after completion of the first. Such a ridiculous decision. The first original Superman The Movie has an amazing balance of gripping drama, epic scope, cinematography, acting, powerful storytelling and just the right amount of humour and comic book style. The rest became far too silly, poorly handled, weakly delivered and then the newer ones are just big computer generated, angry, miserable and aggressive masturbations by/for airhead comic book fanboys. The original was an epic piece of film-making and storytelling in it's own right as well as being a defining Superman film in every aspect.

    • @johnfitzpatrick3094
      @johnfitzpatrick3094 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I tend to agree. It's about CHARACTER, and today's writers seem to have little understanding of who Superman IS, and less concern with that than they have with more impressive effects.

    • @johnnyfavorite1194
      @johnnyfavorite1194 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Austin Dyer Donner shouldn’t have been replaced, but according to commentary by the surviving Salkind producer, Donner was completely unapproachable. Despite the super success of Superman: The Movie, Donner was still full of rage and flaming resentment toward the Salkinds. The producers attempted to communicate, make peace, put the past behind them and finish Superman II with Donner back in the director’s chair, but he refused to be civil. Everything was all about “fuck you” and “see I told you so.” Once it became apparent that Donner would not relent, the Salkinds passed the directing duties to Richard Lester.

    This is a deleted scene? On the old VHS copy I used to have, this scene was included. Of course, it was recorded off Danish TV back in the mid-eighties, so the station might have obtained and broadcast a different edition.

      You might be on to something there. Luthor might think that he can't beat Zod and company but Superman is a good guy so he should eventually be a pushover. Zod might kill him on a whim so he is working to eliminate that threat.

  • @srb9

    OK Lex brigs up a valid point: Lex did not encounter the forcefield. Why? It's a plot hole folks, and why this was cut.

    • @trevor22a
      @trevor22a 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is more missing footage which would explain the force field. Donner shot Superman flying back to the fortress moments before the villains. Donner had planned to inter-cut shots of Superman at the crystal panel too. We were meant to think Superman was afraid of them and he turned on a force field that Lex did not encounter. The villains thought Superman had no tricks left when they "forced" him into the depowering chamber.

    • @srb9
      @srb9 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So where is the 'more missing footage' ?

    • @ralphgoodman4670
      @ralphgoodman4670 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      srb obviously because at first, Superman didn't lock the doors until the enemy arrived.

    • @ralphgoodman4670
      @ralphgoodman4670 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The deleted scenes in the Donner cut, showed that the depowering chamber was burned out, and so the audience knew that it was a trick; and so it was only outside of the chamber that they could be made powerless.

    • @peterp2153
      @peterp2153 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not a plot hole. Superman is putting up a fake front of resistance against the villains to entice them to come inside. I.e., if Superman wants to keep them out then clearly he’s hiding in there, afraid to face them or so he wants them to think it’s a deleted scene because Lester needed to minimize the Donner scenes in order to get directorial credit. This is an easy cut since nothing is gained or lost by removing it.

    • @rajithmaligaspe
      @rajithmaligaspe 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think thats why they cut out the scene. Or maybe Donner intended to shoot another scene bridging the two (which would explain the error), but wasn't able to due to the Salkinds' giving him the boot. We won't know since even the original Donner shooting script is missing the final Metropolis battle and the Fortress Scene.

    • @MMAfighter38113

    • @trevor22a
      @trevor22a 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      msmithstud
      I think there is a scene missing with Lex and Lois running in behind the villains. Having them on the villains backs was, I believe, a Lester re-shoot. From the Donner script:
      The VILLAINS leap, fly like bullets, hit the door simultaneously. The electric field crackles mightily around and through the door, but cannot withstand their combined super-strength. It "shorts" itself out.
      INT. FORTRESS - NIGHT The VILLAINS race in, looking wildly for their prey, smelling blood. LUTHOR enters behind them with LOIS. The interior seems to be empty. The molecule chamber stands directly in front of them.

    • @rajithmaligaspe
      @rajithmaligaspe 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      T TRev actually it seems like Donner decided to scrap this deleted scene they shot and go with the villains carrying Lois and lex into the fortress. Shots from the donner cut that show Gene Hackman on Sara Douglas's back as they fly in are proof of this.

    • @MMAfighter38113
      @MMAfighter38113 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rajith-yeah, Donner had his own version of all 5 of them flying in, & Lester had his.
