    To be honest, in these situations we should do everything to prioritize the woman and stop fussing around the baby so much. Mothers need to learn to be a bit selfish when their lives depend on it. The baby can do perfectly fine on formula, a feeding method in which other members of the family can be easily involved and get the mom the chance to help and heal herself.

    Thank you for another great video. Too many people try to hide their post partum depression for fear of being judged. The family of a depressed new mom should understand that their love and understanding is key to her recovery. The sooner she gets treatment, the sooner she can start feeling better. And that's the best outcome for everyone.

    Thank you for sharing the wealth of information! I’m contemplating a PhD or PsyD while also wracking my brain on a potential pregnancy as the clock keeps ticking. However, with a diagnosis of Bipolar II, I am nervous of a possible relapse (I have experienced post-partum depression in the past). There are so many considerations to take into account when someone has these risk factors. Education is so crucial for management. Thank you immensely! Keep on sharing!

      You're welcome Sarah. There is a lot that goes into the decision making. I realize the depressions with bipolar 2 can be brutal and long. ☹ For what it's worth, we are gathering more data showing no malformation in women who take the antipsychotic medications during pregnancy. That's promising because being treated during pregnancy can make a huge difference in what happens afterwards. Good luck with the doctorate. 🙂

    I was in such a bad place all through and after my pregnancy that it left me traumatized. I couldn’t even breastfeed my baby because it would increase my depression and I would cry every time I breast fed. I was so nieve to this that I just dealt with all of it on my own and never reached out for help. Now, a decade later, even though I’m in a healthy relationship, I am terrified of being pregnant again. 😞

    • @eviebatin1261
      @eviebatin1261 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ItsMyParty 87 - every pregnant is different. I had one pregnancy out of 8 that I had to take Valium which is a no no. None of my antidepressants were working and I had an old school doctor. Another of my pregnancy I love spicy food. I was very disappointed it didn’t reoccur the the rest of my pregnancies. I’m not saying throw caution to the wind, but consider you are older, in an easier relationship and you understand you don’t need to go without meds if things get really bad.

    • @DrTraceyMarks
      @DrTraceyMarks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree with Evie. Every pregnancy is different. Also knowing you had this previous experience, you and your doctor can plan ahead for treatment to either start before you give birth or soon after. Getting treatment that works can make all the difference.

    Hi Dr. Marks, thank you for your insightful content. In the video description you mention that you'll be doing a separate video on pregnancy and antidepressant treatment. It would be of great help to me as I am contemplating another pregnancy now that my little girl is 19 months old. I had perinatal depression and am now stable, going to therapy and taking 50 mg of Zoloft. I'm afraid to take the drug while pregnant but have not been able to wean off successfully. Thanks in advance!

    My wife may have had a very mild case of postpartum depression because she was off of her sertraline a.k.a. Zoloft I think she took off eight weeks from work they just don’t give you enough time off from work for babies in America .i believe india gives you something like one year off from work. The intravenous drug you talk about in the beginning with all the side effects sounds scary for any woman that may be necessary it’s good that they have options now. I enjoy your videos where they there for us men or not

    Dear doctor Tracey Marks,
    Firstly I would like to Thank you for the informative video. I have several questions about the Tmax. In the given example of feeding while using Sertraline. The Tmax was around 4.5 up to 8.4 hours. Why did you choose to assume 4.5 hours? How will this work in real life, the Tmax might as well be reached after 6 hours and the feeding of 14.00 o clock would have the max concentration. Is it therefore realisitic to try to avoid feeding around Tmax when the Tmax can be reached over such a long period of time?
    Thank you so much in advance for answering.
    Greetings,
    S Bakker

      Hi Yoa Yoa. I’m not sure of the exact mechanism of how you have anxiety and then experience weak legs. There’s a lot of body sensations that you have that we don’t have a good explanation of why it manifests with that physical symptom.

    Thank you so much for making this video! I don't have ppd but I am going to a psychiatrist next week, for the first time in 12 years. I am hoping to be prescribed medical cannabis but the thought of having to stop breastfeeding in order to meet Doctor's recommendation (pills) left me in fear of my upcoming appointment. Your lesson has definitely helped to ease my anxiety, thanks again!
    QUESTION:
    I was diagnosed Bipolar 1 (I believe it was 1) with dissociation at an emergency room by one of those on-call robot psychiatrists a couple years ago. I cried and then took it with a grain of salt simply because I thought it was kind of preposterous to be diagnosed at an emergency room. May I have your thoughts on this situation, please?

    • @DrTraceyMarks
      @DrTraceyMarks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      At this point it would be treated like a regular depression even if it started out postpartum. If you failed two different antidepressants it would be considered treatment resistant depression. There are other medication options to improve your response. I did a video on treatment resistant pression here

    • @DrTraceyMarks
      @DrTraceyMarks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a category C which means to use with caution. It does pass-through in decent amount to breastmilk. So all in all, it’s necessary to have a discussion about it and weigh the positives and negative’s before taking it while breast-feeding.
