- Niagara’s internet sensation Buddy the Dog has passed away. The city will honour him and raise awareness about k9 cancer tomorrow night by lighting up the falls. Adam Atkinson reports.

I didn't know anything about Buddy, but seeing him in the car with that head tilting brought a smile to my face. Finding out he died of cancer brings tears.

Never even knew Buddy existed until The Girl with the Dogs. Here I am sobbing and gulping for air. He was the best boy. I’m so sorry for your loss. ❤

What a sweet pup Buddy was. I've lost two dogs to cancer, plus my family's dog when I was 16. You know when it's time, you just do. I'm so sorry for your great loss.

Dogs are only with us for such a short time, it's our part of the relationship to be kind and generous with them.
My 14 year old girl passed away in February from lung cancer. She had breast cancer 4 years ago and survived and was my little surviver. We put her to sleep when we noticed her nit being able to walk for long. She would walk all around the world If she could. We put jer to sleep before she suffered long. I'm so sorry for your loss of buddy 😭😭😭💔
Lost her first shepherd Winnie to cancer. She lived a happy 12 years with us. One of the saddest days of my life when we had to put her down, yet shortly there after we got a GSD puppy who is now 8.😊. Mike is a great guy and I follow his channel - Totally salt of the Earth gentlemen and this world needs more like him!

Heartbroken over your loss. Only recommendation find an Integrative Pet Care vet, they do holistic treatment on animals... brought our dog back to life and cured him holistically. Pet Food companies and traditional vets are a vicious cycle.. he was too young. Your new puppy Pal is beautiful... raw is a good way to go with a raw egg everyday too

This breaks my heart especially knowing how hard it was for him to get another German Shepherd after his last one passed away. I had a dog die after 22.5 years in 2019. I cried for weeks afterward. It was the worst. I’m glad he got another dog to fill his heart more quickly.
RIP Buddy, hope you meet my old girl Sparky up there and you both have all the cream cones and balls your brave dog hearts desire. Such a good boy, came here from that other video... in tears now.

Strange ,! We had a shepard just like yours, and his name was buddy and the most intelligent dog we ever had, you could tell him to do something he never had done before and you could see him think about it for about for 5 to 7 seconds and then go do it !! He constantly amazed us ! Very gental, well behaved , died at 5 years old ! Developed twisted gut, did not show signs til too late. Loved him with all my heart ! Still cry for him !

They bring us so much joy and then they break our hearts. Buddy was a Shepherd, so his answer to you, his beloved human, was always YES!, I'm sure. No matter how long or how short, we give our dogs the very best lives we can and in return they give us their trust, companionship, and dedication. You and Buddy were lucky to have each other. I wish you well and hope that, in the year that has passed since you posted this video, your sadness has been tempered with fond memories of your friend.
As a 39 year old male who looks pretty darn masculine I'm sitting here with watery eyes, fighting tears and I'm only at the 25 sec mark of the video and I'm emotional because I literally just watched a video yesterday while this exact dog was alive and his owner couldn't stop explaining how good of a boy he was and how beyond intelligent he was.
I pray to god that this owner finds a new dog who can help this man get closure and have the ability to move on.

Hi Mike, I am so so sorry for the loss of your beautiful Best Friend Buddy, My 5 year old German Shepherd is also diagnosed with terminal cancer 💔 I am not sure how I will live without Sully. I bought a new german shepherd puppy Tuko, he is 1 year old and has kept Sully such good company and been loved by our family. You and Pal are an inspiration to our family and I want to thank you! So sorry for your loss😢I too have lost a few dogs and cats to cancer young. Noticed a pattern when multiple vaccines as per vet schedule, pets died from cancer, pets with just 1 set vaccines when young long healthy lives. Recently put my 14 yr old German Shepherd down for severe arthritis, however lived active healthy lives until then . I have his sister who is 11 yrs young still 6-8 KM hikes daily, and another healthy dog who’s 5, cat that is 16 also. Wish you the best with your beautiful new pup❤

I feel certain it's the high processed dog foods causing so many dogs to get cancer. We have been making our own food for our dogs for two years...it's easy and cheaper than a lot of high end processed dog foods. And we know exactly what they are eating!

So sad, I just realized today😓, my boy Eli is only 4 and watching this just kills me. 💔, my God I would be so heartbroken.
His soul will pass onto Pal, and you will all see each other again and play ball.

Losing my buddypalFolse still haunts me to this day and it still hurts like it happened yesterday, and yes that's what I called him buddypalFolse although his name was Folse, like Buddy and Pal he was A Black and Tan saddleback GSD they are the best very smart and easy to train. To this day the song "Yesterday" has A whole new meaning to me... I tell people losing A dog like Folse leaves A whole in your heart and your life that you never get use to or get over, you just learn to walk around it........ I feel for ya....

Never knew about Buddy or Pal untill i watched the dog groomer with Pal. So very sad at the loss of Buddy. He looked a wonderfully intelligent dog. And both dogs are beautiful ❤. But to lose a dog is losing a family member. Torture.

Sticks from the neighborhood while walking Pal, Mike. Man made rubber and the like will slowly poison him, in dog years, that comes fast. I’m a big fan of you and Pal and want to keep watching for many many years.
My rescue Corgi got lymphoma and lasted three years.

King Shepherds are pretty much really big German Shepherds! They're usually German Shepherds mixed with Shiloh Shepherds I believe?

Sorry about Buddy I have only seen Pal. My dog Crow died of cancer she was 12 she lived for walking in the woods one day she just layer there . We never walked in the woods together again. It was that quick she was fine one day deathly ill the next.
my dog is ten, and i am dreading his death, will he live until 12 yrs old, or 15 yrs old, i hope the latter, i love my dog, i spend all day with him, we have molded around each other, you just know when you have a special dog, i'll never get another dog as good as this one, i never use a lead on him, he just knows where to walk, he would never run out onto the road by himself, we cross busy roads together he is by my side all the way, i dont use a lead for him and it works well, he still has his nuts so he is into marking territory big time, i did not have the heart to have his nuts chopped off and i an glad i did not do it, i am planning on getting a cat after him to avoid getting another dog, i dont know how long i will last, at my age i am 60 yrs old, it may not pay to get a new pup, i may not out live the dog and that would be sad, my best bet will be to rescue a dog, with older dogs you can see there personalities and match them to people much easier, with a young pup you have no idea what sort of little monster your bringing home, until the grow a little, imagine some one that wants an active dog to go on long runs with and keep active and the get a dog that just wants to lay around and eat, or someone who just wants a laid back dog but gets a total ball of energy that just cant keep still and burns of energy by destroying the house hold furnishings, i think after my trusty dog Mr Red Dog passes i better get another rescue dog thats not a pup, that way i will be able to see it's personality !!!

My dog, Peewee, died on January 17th, 2023....it was the worst year of my life. I got depressed and angry for a few months. Even though it was her time, (she was14 yrs old), I still struggled through the whole year. I miss her so much....and I always will 😔😞🥺😢😭. God, I Love Dogs. They truly are Man's Best Friend.🥹🥲
