      The irony is that the loudest critics were the European Union and politicians like Angela Merkel who condemned Australia for their immigration policy. We used to get motions in parliaments in Europe to condemn us then these countries got to face the reality of their disastrous policies and began asking us for advice on how to control their borders.

      @@sunilshah0 As a Canadian citizen I recently visited Australia. I spent time in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. It was the most amazing country and people. I never experienced any racism (I'm black) at all. I would highly recommend Australia as a place to visit, study or migrate to.

      Bully 1973 I spend most of each year here in Sydney. Mostly love it. But there is a racist anti immigration here. Particularly since peter Dutton became a minister.

      Why does peter keep comparing Australia to everywhere else? We does he continually have to refer to being ‘top 3’? why does he keep saying well we are doing more? Why does he keep answering a question with ‘well we are better, we are top 3, we are doing more’.
      If we can do more, why aren’t we?

    He has not let Dutton answer a single question completely. As soon as he gets near giving detail, he cuts him off with gossip laden accusations and catch phrases. The fact that Australia is in the top 3 countries that accept refugees is enough.

      No we are not clown we get told what to do by the US and UK and for that reason alone we ended up with the so called boat people , we were one of the the countries that caused the Asylum seeker problem in the first place , by conducting an illegal invasion of Iraq which destabilised the entire middle east , just in Iraq alone we created over two and a half million refugees , so my advice to you is do some research before cry on the internet !!!

    I've lived in suburbs where the majority were born in Australia like myself. I now live in a suburb where 80.3% were born overseas. I much prefer this one.

    If i was a refugee I would be grateful being put in a real prison in Australia. If your life is at risk you should be grateful for anything another country gives you! The migrants receive FREE shelter, FREE food, FREE health care etc. We give them enough.

    This interviewer first starts out talking about people fleeing across the Mediterranean like Australia is responsible for every persecuted person in the world, Then he fails to acknowledge that the people living in the Australian run immigration camps have the option of returning to their home countries. Obviously life is better in the camps. Id like to see Al Jazeera do the same interview with the head of immigration in Japan, they have lots of wealth and currently a negative birth rate.

    Loads of misinformed comments here either praising or trashing Dutton for "his" policies. This is called the Pacific solution developed way back in 2001 in response to the "Tampa Affair." The policy had bipartisan support and was implemented during the Howard government.

    Dutton is a danger to Australian democracy, but he is an intelligent politician. An extremely inhumane and regrettable person to have holding such political power... we have treat thousands of refugees with horrible cruelty in our 'offshore detention centres'. When we banned the press from visiting them... that's pretty bad.

    Love Peter Dutton. Just watched the Malcolm Turnbull Interview about his disposal and how Peter Dutton was a main culprit. No Sorry, I think Malcolm Turnbull was a very good PM but Peter Dutton has his own Australian Vision and he wasn't going to have Turnbull have his way. Sorry Turnbull you lost.
