Hi Dr. Anu. I just completed PhD in Controlled Drug Delivery Systems using nanomaterials. Wish to do Post Doctoral research in cancer targeted drug delivery research. How to convince PI that I will learn new things and will be helpful in your lab? All PI ask for 'compelling cover letter'. That seems difficult while changing the field.
No no it wont be! If you can somehow show that you have worked in different fields! Use that thing to wuote you have good understanding and skills to grasp on new topic. Further the PI you are applying to see if he has shifted a bit of his domain, in interview you can politely quote that too. In cover letter be very strong with the skills ypu have, some lines why you are interested and what skills you can bring to the table to move into new discipline.
No I dont think, you should take it as hurdle, indeed with good efforts you’ll able to convince with of Cover letter. Say if you have changed your discipline a bit, you can quote that in interview, or show that you are a quick learner. Simply writing these words will not serve the purpose, you need to show it through, your past experiences.

Read some papers. try to understand them. Decide a broader topic first. read papers. Need not be big papers. then try to propose something similar. Will explain more, later
Writing, preparing drafts, speaking etc all right. Main problem is when your supervisor don't have any links for pdoc. I want some link or reference from your group/colleague to which I can talk to/put my application. Have msged u CV on Researchgate.

If you really want to do. But check out the fellowship details. Talk to the lab, institute etc. You must be supported by funds.
