    JB Weld SteelStik is different from JB Weld Original Cold Steel. SteelStik has a faster set time (5 minutes vs 4-6 hours) and cure time (1 hour vs 24 hours). SteelStik is also rated to be stronger than Original Cold Steel (900 pounds per square inch vs 680 psi). So far, I am impressed.

      @@FieldGuidetoDIY I used this today to repair 2 fallen pickets in my aluminum bar fence. I did wear gloves (disposable nitrile, like cooking or light cleaning, because those were the disposable gloves I had on hand), but it still felt a little prickly through them. It did not stain my fingers through the gloves, though I still washed my hands afterwards.
      Hoping this holds because I used the JB Kwik weld before and it only held for a couple months before failing again. This seems more promising because it was more like a putty that I could really mold to the picket and bar. The pickets that fell had 2 welds (top and bottom), and for both had failed, of course (the picket wouldn't have fallen if only 1 did). Like with the Kwik weld, I used a clamp to hold the picket in place at one connection point (above one horizontal bar), repaired the other, let it sit for about 20 hours, and then clamped near the repair and repaired the other weld. I was truly disappointed in my last attempt, so really hopeful this product holds, since I can't find anything else comparable on the market and hiring a welder to fix 2 pickets is...expensive. Possibly more expensive than replacing the fence gate, though without the emotional damage of digging up the flowerbeds the support posts sit in that took me 5 years of work to get just the way I want them...

It never bonded and I was able to remove it with my hand after 24 hrs curing. I sanded the steel and put some acetone to make everything was clean. I did this 3 times with JB Weld. I tried 3 brands of metal glue but all the same problem. I tried super and gorilla steel epoxy and same problem. I solved the problem by getting it welded. I also was emailing JB Weld support and they check the glue and also the pictures and video I sent to them. They could not understand why it would not bond.

    tried on 3 different metals, did not work. kneaded like crazy, did not get warm, was not very squishy, pulled right off even after 24 hours !! tried also to embed a nut in it, to allow insertion of a bolt, nope, did not work .

      I’m right there with ya. I added my experience in the comments. It held for about one month then broke again. I ground off the steel stick and used original cold steel which is holding for nine months now. Sorry to hear about your similar experience. Thanks so much for watching.

    • @FieldGuidetoDIY

      Great question. I thought the steel stick would stick the way our repairs with other JB Weld products have held. Remove all paint from the repair surface. Good advice.

  • @AnubisReviews

    Did this improperly and then you posted a follow-up about how it isn't as good as advertised. You didn't prep the surfaces as required under the instructions. You also only press the painted smooth ring onto the top of the putty which is why it didn't hold. Had you drilled a 1/4 inch hole on the inside or bottom of the ring, pressed a small amount into the hole, then pressed it onto the mount you made on the legs then it would've held and would've been able to support your full body weight. Another way is to make a ring of putty around the ring and then sticking it to the leg would lock it to the knob on the leg permanently. Reading the instructions before making a how to video should be obvious.

    • @FieldGuidetoDIY
      @FieldGuidetoDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Folks, listen to Anthony. He is 100% correct. I should have been wearing gloves. Why? Because I'm actually kneading an epoxy with my bare hands. Anyone who knows epoxies, knows they work based on a chemical reaction. Don't work with chemical reactions with your bare hands. Sure you can wash up but if you have gloves, use them. Thanks for the reminder Anthony. You rock!
