These used to be such a common sight when I was a kid, so it’s really interesting to see you work on them and enjoy the process. Thank you for sharing your skills with us.
Hi KJ my next door neighbour had a long wheel base 406D and he used to drive from a small village in Lincolnshire UK to Southern Spain every summer and around christmas time you say it was only doing about 75kph his posable did 80/85 kph 50 miles per hourso you can imagine it took a long time to get to his holiday home in Southern Spain three and a half to four day's precisely driving each way I did the servicing on this vehicle and he offered to tack me for a holiday I decided the offer of travelling by road a took a cheap flight a few day's later and he picked me up from the local airport and had a very painful 1 hour drive to his house witch was only 25 kilometers from the airport, thank you for a great video and the painful memory of travelling in a MB 406D.
You are about entertainment. We find it entertaining to watch someone like you work, in my case, the older the better. Therefore' bring it on. The way you make body work look easy is particularly entertaining to me although you may find it to be a pain in the butt...so thank you for entertaining us.
Nice running van, in the mid 70ties I drove such one but longer vehicle nick named " wüstenschiff" meaning ship of the desert filled with roses from Germany to Holland, those were sold on the auction and I take other flowers backwards for sale. Reliable diesel engines, 400K on that one! Nice vids, continue ;-))
Would we like to see you working on " other strange vehicles " .. HELL YEA !!! As they say " Variety is the spice of life " Staying SLIGHTLY warmer from here in the UK 😊
It's nice to see. That was really a quick and straigh forward fixing. In Germany many of these very small versions ran as "bread wagons" - sort of mobile bakery shop in suburbs and villages. They often had a side hatch that can be opened and act as a rain shield across the inside "counter" where the customers are served. They used to use the smallest ones, because they are the cheapest to operate and you did not need a trucks driver license. I think german Bundespost also used these. Thanks for showing !
Thanks again for your video, everything coming clear due to your explanation. increadible that quality of Mercedes those years, my 1961 Unimog with its M180 also needs little repair! 18:01
from Canada, I so enjoy your videos and have been watching for a long time. you diagnose so well, and the repairs are so well done with care and calculation. of course, I will continue watching.........thank you.

Hell ye we'd like to see some nice little repair job on another "weird one" in between the main projects. Also - gotta hand it to whoever owned 50yo old orange man here - it seems to be quite well preserved. Also2 - it's these little things that you pay attention to that make it so enjoyable to watch, cuz i would have forgotten to blow the bolt holes clean on that thermostat housing, or better yet - would not have thought of it at all. A very minor thing, yes, but it matters in the grand scheme of things.
Old and quirky stuff? Yes, sir! I subscribed, because of the UAZ stuff, you spiced it up with diggers, Unimogs and a Humvee and now a Düdo. Keep it up and please keep it weird and wonderful. This kind of variety is the spice in a youtube channel like yours.
Hi, that old design diesel engine just might sound better being at correct operating temperature eh. OK, I am a petrol/ diesel head of 76 years of life and a committed Diesel Landrover Owner of the older types. I just Love them, and so I watch your adventures, thankyou.
Nice vehicle, im from Finland and those are still on the road with people camping in the summer. Most common version in here is the 508. Waiting for a new video from you especially about that workshop renovation/remodeling !
I enjoy your content for your skill set which is impressive, I like seeing you fix anything so street vehicle content is fine by me. Greetings from Indiana, USA
Merci pour vos vidéo , j'apprécie vos commentaires ,votre démarche de recherche de panne votre travail de carrosserie c’est très intéressant merci bravo
Awesome as usual KJ. Reminds me of helping my dad work on Citroen DS's etc here in Australia, pull halc the vehicle apart to fix a small leak or whatsver, sigh the good ol days😊, thank you for the memories. Pete
It was great to see you working on the bus, I've always wondered just how they were put together. That bus has about the same top speed as my old haflinger.
lovin' any of the old oddball iron so please continue with loading this type of content when the opportunity presents itself. That old van is fantastic, what a great camper platform but sadly here in my country we have a 5 model year moratorium so anything past 2019 is verboten!
My ears start ringing just from seeing one of these vans. The cabin noise level is like a busy blacksmith's shop. The steering was usually so sloppy that you'd have to constantly turn the steering wheel to avoid running off into a ditch on either side of the road. But fun seeing one, anyway.
I've got a "few" kilometers in Northern Norway in those vans. Also nick named "bread van" in Norway - lots of bakeries had those to distribute goods. Musicians were also a big customer group for those.
Anyone involved in motor sports in Denmark had one until about 20 years ago, until they raised the annual road tax for private use of them by a factor 20
@@MrFengen There was a fair bit of showing off with these vans. I remember a long 713 with a turbocharger mounted in the wheel arch, because that was the only place it would fit.
Great Job and I also agree with the torque wrench... not everything but on aluminum parts/moving parts use a torque wrench. too easy to screw something up....
Hi Kasper, very interesting vehicule that T-2 .The view from that big windshield must be great?Long time ago ,I did own a 190-D,and a 300-D,mercedes,the motorisation of thoses cars are long last appreciate thoses old mercedes products ,keep the good work Kasper, from Richard in Canada
Hi KJ. Great to see you working on that old school van. In the view of the dashboard at 31:53 there is a pepper pot looking device in the display. Is that part of a Thermostart system like was fitted to the MK1 Transit with the 2.4ltr York engine. If it is I hope it assisted starting better than it did on the Transits. They could be an absolute pig to get going first start of the day. Most people just resorted to giving them a sniff of ether 🤦♂️. Great content. Thank you for your efforts
Well yeah, the little glow/indicator/resistor thing in the dash, is the same. They were used in quite a few old euro diesels. But allthoug im not very familliar with the old Transits. i beleive they had a different glow-plug setup. from what these old mercedes have
@ the MK1 Transits with the York engine didn’t have any glow plugs at all. It only had the Thermostart device. Later MK1’s could also be fitted with an ether injection system from the factory! The later MK2 Transit had a revised cold start system with a glow plug in each ante chamber and an automatic excess fuel device. They were much better starters
You always make good videos in a simple and matter of fact way, explaining and talking about the informations at hand and not irrelevant stuff. Would be interesting to se whatever you do. Got a problem. Got a UAZ Hunter 2016 with a broken front propeller shaft. Where can I get hold of one?
A question: how does the scroll before the radiator operate from the drivers point of view? As the wire seems to be quite long I wonder what the mechanism is! Great video, thanks for posting it!
Tak for videoen Casper.

I ran a LWB 1974 508D van back and forth from Germany to Ireland in the '80s. Great truck, verrrry slow but very reliable.

KJ..all things considered MB made service a lot easier than most manufacturers..and parts readily available...owner will be very happy..great job..
First time watching your channel and will be watching a lot more.

Agree entirely, power tools give no feedback, and working on older vehicles it's critical to feel what's happening
I'm in North Carolina, USA, and I really enjoy your channel. Not too many Unimogs around here though! Nor Düsseldorfers!
Thanks for sharing and taking us along.
I like all the variety in the vehicles. Thanks, keep up the good work, sir.
Nice to see Norwegian in one of your videos ❤️🇳🇴
Mercedes 406D - same engine as the Unimog and Kasper thinks, "How fast can it go?" 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Well done young man.
It was great to see you working on the bus, I've always wondered just how they were put together. That bus has about the same top speed as my old haflinger.
Nicely done and enjoyable to watch.
As always, another great job.
Nice. Now I know the OM615 was bored out and the 616 was born, and to watch for the water pump flange.
For a second there, I felt like you were going to take it out into the mud and ditch field. Haha.

More absolutely bro! If you have the chance of course.
Cool rig I’ve never seen in the States. Thanks for sharing!
We had a 508D LWB that we converted into a camper...nice to drive but very very noisy! It was bright green. I believe it is still going.
Artig å se en "norsk" bil her. Godt jobba (som alltid)! :)
excellent enjoyed watching best wishes mike.😃

Great content on repairing/maintaining those old diesel engines!
i love these trucks!
Good video. Simple fixes but effective. I enjoy it all. Thanks
Enjoyed that good work.
Fantastisk evigheds maskine 😍😍
That is one cool vehicle
Very nice van, great content
Great video, thanks for sharing this with us
Here in Argentina we have a lot of MB 608, lltle bigger. Until today are use for work and motorhome
Great Job and I also agree with the torque wrench... not everything but on aluminum parts/moving parts use a torque wrench. too easy to screw something up....
unusual is cool!
Great vehicles. If you keep these maintained the engine will last forever. Most times the rust did kill them i guess.
Huh....I was hoping you'd test drive the van over to the mud-hole-of-death. Maybe next time.
P.S. Give that old Ford tractor some love. 🙂

👍
yes please

Mange Tak, Kenny 👍🏻
I used to ride to school in a bus version of that van...
What happened with the Deutz Magirus series? Would be nice to see how he will deal with the task of the cargo bed conversion.
I have a 608 from '76. I would appreciate the supplier in Germany where you got the parts.
I used AutoDoc at first. and then MogParts to get the second water-pump (They share a lot of parts with some of the old Unimogs)
How hard would it be to SWAP unimog axles on to this orang bus?
Awesome van but I´m a Düdo guy anyways :)
Mercedes 508d hade min far… trött var den efter väg men gick billigt och startade alltid…
60HP is not fast? Shocking!😀
It's a toaster
autodoc wier liebe sending wrong parts!
