    Hi, I love your videos and I've seen you use melamine foam for some of your needle felting and it looks like a great idea, but doesn't the foam have chemicals since its used for cleaning? My mom said that it has chemicals for cleaning so I didn't want to get it for my crafts. Does the one you use have chemicals?

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Melamine foam is actually really safe because it doesn't contain any chemicals and it's designed to be used only with water (you don't even need soap). The foam structure has lots of tiny holes which "trap" dust and then you can wipe them away. I use it myself to clean my apartment because I like the fact that it's non-toxic and you only need water :D

  • @diver1626
    @diver1626 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Quick question! I noticed you used the melamine foam as the actual base in some of your felting videos, like the roll cakes, but not in others. Why is that? Is it to save wool?
    Edit- P.S. You are awesome x3!

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I tend to use melamine foam for any felt piece which has flat sides or sharper edges (eg roll cake or cookies) because this helps it keep the shape. Round shapes are much easier to do without foam because you have to poke evenly from all directions.

      We'll, if your kid is at a younger age, you might want to help them, after all, little fingers might get hurt from the needle, but if you have older children, then ignore everything I've just said

    • @tkmaz
      @tkmaz 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! The daruma took about 1 hour and the cat 2 hours. The trickiest part is the very beginning when shaping the loose wool into a body/ears shape (also the time when you're most likely to poke yourself). The remaining 80% of the work is simply smoothing down the felt so everything becomes firm and even...if your children are old enough to work with the needles then this part should be quite fun for them!

    I showed this to my friend and she thinks its cool how felt/wool can stay in a form by poking and stuff... So I'm planning to get her a kit for her birthday which is in November. She has never done this before or heard of it so which kit do you think is best for beginners??

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! So glad the video helped, it's really fun the first time you try it because it feels a bit like 'magic' when the felt starts becoming hard and compressed. I definitely recommend this kit for beginners: www.etsy.com/listing/187195555/kawaii-bear-trio-mascots-japanese-needle?ref=listing-3 It was the first kit I ever tried and it's great because you get to practise the same design three times. You have to get the needles separately (sold from the same Etsy shop)

    oh! how do you make the wool so firm and even without having 'pore' like holes in
    them? its always a problem for me when i felt! :/

    • @maqaroon
      @maqaroon  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, do you use a multiple felting needle or a single one? I find its easier with a single needle...when I used a triple needle then I started getting the pores too. Other times it might just be the type of felt and it's hard to do much about that. One thing that could help is felting the surface lightly at a 45° angle, so you're basically poking the surface lightly at a slant instead of stabbing directly up and down, which creates holes. :)

    • @Maru-jt7zc
      @Maru-jt7zc 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I use the single needle! Now I get it! No wonder XD I keep poking up and down thats why my wool has 'pore like holes' Thanks for your awesome tip dear! ^^

      Hi! I buy my wool from JapanLovelyCrafts (linked in video comment section) but you can get cheaper ones over Etsy too. For instance this looks like great deal for a huge amount of wool: www.etsy.com/listing/156054545/sale-35-colors-needle-felting-needle?ref=sr_gallery_1&ga_search_query=needle+felt&ga_ship_to=AT&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery

      The red daruma doll is the one that traditionally brings luck, but the kitten can obviously also be a good luck charm or gift ^_^
