  • The 2021 Ford Mustang GT is a V8, monstrous, icon - that's dying. It's the end of an era - don't expect to see the legendary 5.0L V8 "Coyote" engine much longer with regulations increasingly tightening. In today's in-depth review, I'm going to show you why the Mustang GT is a fantastic car, and why it represents surprisingly good value for money.

      @@davej1212 Hi Mate, I’m a bit old be be in an internet argument, and you are welcome to believe any stats that suite your argument. On the track days my friends and I have organised at Heathcote (pre lockdowns) with above average drivers. The stinger was a consistent 12.8 sec car the manual mustang was a 13.2 (most were 13.6) , and the auto was a 12.95. Substantially harder to launch consistently. Much to the disappointment of my Mustang friends we agreed the stinger was faster. 2 weeks later the mustang owner put a supercharger on it from Herrods and shut us all up.

      I bought one in May and I absolutely love driving it. I was hell bent on the manual,,, until I drove the auto. The 10sp is like riding a sports bike, in that the revs stay in the power band with every shift so they feel much faster than the manual. And yep, the sound is awesome.

      @@semyon74 I have a 10 speed 2020 gt mustang. I ran consistent 12.1- 12.5 at the strip. Never lost to a stock stinger. Once you get used to the stangs power and launch no stock stinger can touch it. Stinger is just easier to launch off the line! Traction is the only issue with the stang essentially.

    Hello Matt, your description of how a new mustang driver reacts is spot on. Only a mustang gt can reach inside a man and pull out that uncanny smile you can't remove from your face when you roll thru the gears with your foot on the floor. I have owned 5 in my life time and itnever stops. The last new Gt I purchased was in 2007 and I am still driving it. That first night out I rolled thru Miami and Miami Beach with the windows down. At a red light Peter Frampon singing "do you feel like I do" played and i broadcast it over the Shaker1000 system. Smilled the whole night just like you described. A mustang is the kind of car you are sad when when you arrive at home because the drive is over. Anyone who says different has probably never driven one or they prefer a Prius.

    The 10 speed auto for this car is great but I have zero regrets going for the 3 pedals, its so much fun. I also opted against the Recaros, sacrificing the heated and cooled standard seats was too much for me!

    Hi Matt - big fan of your videos as always and great to see you've hit 10k subs. Agreed with pretty much all of your points, and thought I'd share my (long-term) views as an owner of a 2019 GT manual (back when dealers were actually desperately trying to flog them for under 60k driveaway):
    1. I'd disagree with the Magnaride - did quite a few test drives with and without it, and settled on no magnaride. To me, the magnaride was either too stiff or too boaty between the different settings and added unnecessary (IMO) complexity for no real benefit. The stock springs felt much more of a happy medium for compliance and body control. Not to mention you're free to swap to aftermarket coils without feeling like you wasted $2.75k should you be so inclined.
    2. Agree on Recaros - definitely not worth the extra $3k on the already excellent sports seats. Not to mention you lose heated seats by choosing the Recaros - probably doesn't matter for some but worth it in places like Melbourne.
    3. The short shift kit from Ford is a must IMO - from memory it was $850 fitted and I had it included as part of the overall negotiation. Stock is already pretty good but the kit makes it feel rifle bolt precise - kinda like a much heavier version of an MX-5 shifter. Really makes changing gears a joy.
    3. Really wish they gave us the option of 3.73 rear gears (like in the US) rather than just 3.55. You probably noticed that the gears in the manual are looooooonnngggg. 1st goes to 87kph and 2nd goes to 133kph (!) so you only rarely get to experience the full rev range on the road, which is a shame given how rev happy the engine is. Also makes 2nd gear pulls feel less punchy than it should for the power. This is where the 10AT has a big benefit - the much tighter ratios means you get to exploit the full rev range much more often.
    4. Underneath the boot there is actually a cutout for a space saver spare, but Ford want to charge you $850 for the privilege of getting a tyre and jack. Pure BS.
    5. Minor thing but you can actually change the display inside the tachometer to show what gear you're in rather than RPMs - much more useful I think. This is only possible in 2019+ models.

    You literally took the words right out of my mouth, Mustang is so common, it's like, ohh another Mustang, I only notice them, because of the exhaust note, I own a 2018 Kia Stinger GT, and now 3 years later, it's still extremely rare on our Aussie roads.

    • @GoogleSays

      Stingers are quite common now

    • @DnRprodxIL
      @DnRprodxIL 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is actually one of the largest reasons why Ford has never paused/stopped production of the mustang.
      The stinger is extremely popular among potential stang owners, along with the Lexus RC F or Audi s5. I went with the mustang because it looks sexier, has way more aftermarket potential, and is way more unique if you look past the beltline while passing by one at a light. Almost no two mustangs are alike because of the clientele they attract.

    I'm looking to buy a car in the next few months and I'm down to either a Mustang or Audi RS5. The Audi is more than double the price and I'm slightly leaning towards it, but could really go either way and it may come down to the fact that the RS5 are actually in stock, whereas I'm hearing rumours that a new Mustang may be a year away.
    Thoughts?

      @@TheManhu01 You’re lucky to be able to even get a low mileage second hand for the right price.
      Here in the US, because of the shortages, preowned already reached msrp prices.
      And the auto is a great choice as it is able to use the 5.0L torque curve on acceleration more efficiently. A10 lets the Mustang on par with more expensive performance vehicles.
      I have the manual and it shifts smoothly. Those who are saying the it is problematic just don’t have finesse. It’s the dual mass flywheel at high rpm shifting is the problem if you ask me.

I myself have looked at both the Mustang and Stinger recently when considering which to buy. I agree they are very different, the Mustang being the large engine, the Stinger having a much nicer european-style interior. It comes down to needs vs wants. I needed a 4 door comfortable 'everyday' car, but I wanted a mustang...... and hard not to compare when the price is similar.

    I can't imagine life without my Focus ST (a different type of driving, to be sure), but I do really love the Mustang. Having said, if I get one I'll have to give up having a manual just so that my wife would be able to drive it & help speak to some of the parking issues we have at the house. Not a major sacrifice, but even as a relatively long distance commuter (one hour to and one hour from my office) I just like shifting and being really engaged in the act of driving. I love driving fast (when appropriate), but in a very careful manner (not zipping through people or scaring anyone).
    Also (not flaming, serious question), is there something inherent about the way the Mustang puts down its power that has anything to do with all of the Mustang wreck videos, or is all of that just because of immature jackasses with access to too much torque and horses?

      @CarSauce  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes James, didn't do great. I don't disregard it, but I'm also genuinely becoming a little "meh" about it. For example, my old Ford Falcon - a 2013 EcoLPI - was awarded 5 stars in 2012. However, now it would get around 2 stars because crash protection is good, but it doesn't have all the latest safety tech or the airbag between passenger and driver that is now needed for 5 stars. Certainly should and could do better, but I think it's still safe relatively speaking!

    The V8 is clearly not disappearing anytime soon. What is obvious is the ecoboost engines will likely start getting replaced with electric motors.
    The Mach-E IS NOT the future of the mustang. It is simply an added model to the mustang lineup. just like what porsche, Ferrari, jaguar, lambergini, and others have done with their sports car line ups.

      Companies will still produce V8s for the time being, but they will 100000% become more and more rare as countries ban the sale of ICE cars by the end of the decade. Mercedes is a good example, bye bye 8 cyl hello hybrid 4 cyl. Same with Volkswagen / Audi who have completely stopped all r&d of combustion engines. 8 cylinders are dying, and it’s sad

    • @stangboy34

      @@CarSauce yes V8s are dying but not to vehicles that are Iconic with V8's.
      Ford, Chevy, and Dodge are most certainly not dropping V8 production in their high performance vehicles anytime soon.
