Other than the fact that it's a newer product and its angular, more modern styling, we don't have much of an explanation why the Yakima CBX roof boxes are more expensive than earlier models like the SkyBoxes. The lock system definitely feels more sturdy than the lower end models. I went to one of their distributors and test their whole line up. You can feel and see the difference in quality, material, and latching when going from one model to the next. Also, the CBX is way more aerodynamic.
In most circumstances, either box would do a good job keeping your cargo dry, but they are not waterproof. If you experience a hard, driving rain at highway speeds, some moisture can work its way into any cargo box which is why we highly recommend that anything that can't get wet be wrapped in plastic. www.etrailer.com/Roof-Box/Yakima/Y66FR.html
Caution: When the box has full of snow on top. Make sure you clear it right away because the snow gets heavy and it will get stuck on top and hard to remove because of the surface ridges. It acts like a cement . If you force to open it the rivets that holds the arm to open the box can snap. Weak Design. Should’ve added some kind of struts instead. Very pricey poor design in my opinion based on my experience. My 2 cents
