From a defensive point of view Sergio is behind at least twenty / thirty defenders in history, especially Italians and Germans. Beckenbauer, Vogts, Kohler, Sammer, Cannavaro, Maldini, Baresi, Scirea, Ferrara, Nesta, Bergomi, Vierchovod, Burgnich. From a defensive point of view, Barzagli and Chiellini are also better for me. Not to mention Thuram, Desailly, Tresor, in a few years too Van Dijk surely, Krol, Stam, Moore, Figueroa, Passarella, Lucio, Samuel, and others. Among the Spaniards Puyol is on this list and in a higher category compared to Sergio.
