Just wanted to say, I'm enjoying the change to starting with the intro, rather than a spoiler from the gameplay. I know it might be good for the algo to start with a hook, but I like having all the moments in their context.
Disagree, but I understand either I'm in the minority or I know it's impossible to unsee a spoiler. (I liked that it gave an idea of the energy this game) (: I'm not hurt that it's gone though.
I don't mind either way, but I hate this intro specifically. It is waay too long and, whereas the old one was interesting because of the location, this one is just boring.
this is a message for patreon supporter Chris Evans: i read your name in the outro every time and imagine hollywood actor Chris Evans supporting a British board game youtube channel and it brings me immense joy, cheers.
My house rule for ra is I love having the "invoke ra" token in the bag with the tiles so you can pretend like you're drawing and then slam ra on the table as a psyche out.
Couple rule mistakes that probably affected the outcome. 1) when you have no face up sun tiles, you don't get a turn and therefore can't spend your god tokens 2) when the last ra tile is pulled, the epoch ends immediately without an auction. 3) if no one bids when a ra token is pulled all the tiles stay unless the auction row is full
I'm not sure about point #2... How do you know when you've pulled the last RA tile from the bag? I don't think you're supposed to keep track of how many were pulled during the game.
@@NameerHaddad The final RA tile from the epoch, not total from the bag. It's tracked on the board in the middle of the table. Basically puts a major negative consequence on pushing your luck drawing more tiles when you are down to that last spot.
Is there also a rule on counting points first? So if you get negative points but have zero points already you don’t subtract from total points that round. But instead subtract right away and then continue counting points in order?
Disaster tokens can destroy tiles you just won in the auction. After winning an auction, the first thing you do is move all the tiles to your play area, then resolve disasters.
Also, when a Ra tile is drawn making you reach the final spot on the Ra track, the auction is NOT triggered and the round ends immediately. I didn't follow the entire video, but at roughly 1:40:00 Ken was not supposed to get the tiles and the disk. There were quite a few mistakes in this one.
To summarize the three cases of everyone passing: If a Ra tile was drawn, then everyone passing has no effect, the auction track stays the same. If someone is forced to call Ra because the track is full, then everyone passing wipes the auction track. And if someone calls Ra when the track isn't full, then you can't all pass; someone has to bid.
me and sully were on the same wave length at 12:14 tilly said ra ra ra the i immediately went Rasputin just for sully to do the same after i finished saying it my self
Lmao Laurie moved Ra back two spots by mistake at the 1:33:45 mark 😂😂 I think everyone needed to prioritize invoking Ra more and also preserving suns into the late part of the epoch. Laurie was able to be so intentional about what he wanted and also keep his suns into the late game while keeping everyone else’s collections small. Interesting game though
I don’t think they were playing this right at all. 34:30 everyone passed so he discarded the monument… that’s not what you do.. you leave it there and continue to draw.. the only token you discard is the ra tile.. Lol
I was really looking forward to tthis vido but this was pretty rough, a lot of rules weren't followed properly and the gameplay was pretty sloppy. I love this game and would love this to be played again properly.
Better keep the Ra tiles of the current era around and visible to be able to recount. Also, the total pulled Ra tiles in the whole game can be interesting.
@@keithparker1346 Honestly, I think it looks really good! Very crunchy, but not in an overwhelming kind of way, and great player interaction potential. It would have been good if the NRB team were a little more familiar with the mechanics going into it, I would have liked to see some more strategy at the table to get more of a taste of what's possible in the game.
@@helgecko I just prefer simpler games and I don't really like point salad scoring. It has neat aspects though like the winning bid being part of the things bid for the following time and then used in the next epoch...other than that I think it could be smoothed out a bit more
Maybe stupid question, but.... Is it possible to buy this game somewhere? It looks like it is sold out practically everywhere... :/ It looks absolutely amazing and I'd like to get a copy of it.
I think the game seems like a lot of fun, though i do think being able to invoke Ra unlimitlessly, on a player's turn, does have an affect on the flow of game play. For a future addition of the game i would like to see a limit on the amount of times a player can invoke Ra on their turn. Maybe something like 1-2 players have 4 tokens to invoke Ra, 3-4 players have 3 tokens, 5-6 players have 2 tokens, and then 7-8 players have 1 token. As always though another great video.
This is the type of game I don't understand but find it appealing to play. I have no idea why! 😂 It's just an auction game which I hate but still it's fun to watch
Strange question: did y'all change something about your post-production process for this video? I'm seeing what looks like some noise / compression artifacting particularly in the shadows... and it might just be my screen (or my imagination) but are our cast a bit underexposed? TLDR: Something's changed and I'm wrinkling my nose at it. 😅
I think the editor has changed for this one, also the camera angle is higher maybe that's another reason, and the switch between left and right camera is less than usual as well
Could you guys play more IV games please🥹, i loved moonrakers would love to see moonrollers, brink, veiled fate or even moonrakers again with expansion. Also would love to see you guys play some unmatched, whether FFA, 2v2, or Tales to Amaze 4player Co-Op
This game seems extremely swingy /luck dependent, right? I mean the person with the last sun could draw 7 tiles or 0 useful . And this difference seems game changing and 100% luck
I must admit this was one of the hardest ones to watch. Getting the rule about everyone passing and discarding is perhaps one of the hardest things to see. I never played the game but I have watched so many others play it. The other was bidding on just the bidding tile. Did love the interplay between Sully and Rosie as well as Tilly that is always worth a watch.
I LOVE Ra! Do I usually end the game with a competitive score? No. Do I have even the slightest clue on how to win? Also no. Still one hell of a fun game
in the intro, 3:22, it was mentioned that players invoked ra on their turn would bid, or the player after them bid if they drew ra. at 31:42, laurie invokes 'ma' but doesnt bid; i thought if you invoke ra on your turn you bid first? also, at 32:48, laurie invokes ra on his turn; does he or does he not bid first? i'm confused. there doesn't seem to be any consequences for calling ra beyond restricting the pot, which is best for players who are ahead because that just reduces the chances of anyone else gaining capital. i think calling ra should force you to bid, as it seemed to be implied in the explanation, otherwise people can infinitely invoke ra the moment they get ahead and just kill the game.
as far as I'm aware - when you invoke Ra, you are allowed to be the last bidder. However, if no one bids - you are forced to bid. So there is a balance of when you decide to call it or not, because everyone may pass and you may lose a valuable sun-token if you were trying to minimize the opportunities of other by originally calling it.
@@Raraoolala yeah, idk, i feel like it would be more balanced if you had to bid first when you invoke ra, and that was what seemed to be implied when laurie explained it in the beginning

Yea, that's what I usually do. Then play a little game of seeing if I can figure out the rules as the video goes along, lol
@@Deception975 Yep, this one became much clearer once they started playing.
Gamers claiming a game is simple usually have no idea how complex or bewildering it is to casual players or newbies

NRB playing my favorite game! With several rules wrong but they're playing it!
When you pull a ra tile and everyone passes you don't discard the previous tiles. You just discard the ra tile.
That was really painful to watch, discarding all the tiles 😂
You also can't buy with a god tile if you've used all of your sun tiles, so Rosie couldn't have bought that flood tile in the final round.
