Great advice. I found focusing on making my goal to be positioning only and to not be concerned about the final outcome to be much more beneficial for most races. Give 100% to stay in position, and forget about "saving" energy for the finish.
These last few videos have been great Chris! Keep them coming. This video helped me focus on my goals for the season as well as ideas for racing. Thanks.
Love it Chris! Definitely going to use this mindset in my next race. My racing tip is akin to yours, being prepared to try and quite often fail will result in getting more out of each race. I always like to contribute to the story of the race by being active, even if I don’t win.
Good way to break it down. It took me ages to start thinking about where I should be positioning for bell lap, and adjusting how I should be racing and positioned depending on how things have gone. I also like to have a plan B for the races that end up not going anywhere near what I was thinking when I rolled out 🤷♂️
Great Stuff you don't see on GCN. But Chris let's have some TRAINING videos. Different levels: beginners/returning riders . . . intermediate . . . advanced!
I haven't raced before, because when I finally had the fitness, the bike-handling skills and the experience in 2021... I overtrained myself so hard that I had to take a break for 9 months now. It was a mixture of too much cycling, too little sleep, too much stress and alcohol, which washed the magnesium out of my body.
There’s no perfect time to start racing. Just sign up for you next club race. Most places have come and try licences through Aust cycling. Most clubs have a grade for literally everyone, if you’re over 30, join a masters club. I guarantee you won’t be the slowest there. Just start, everything else comes from there, you’ll love it. Post a link to the vid you make here. I’ll watch and give it a like.
@@jasonjohnson9072 Thanks for the good advice, I already had a club picked which I found interesting two years ago and I'm also soon to be 30. Unfortunately, there are no typical crit circuit races in Germany like the ones in Australia and America, they are always more like stages. I work for an online bike shop since august and I need to ask my colleagues if they are in any club.
I think if allowed a camera on your bike recording your actions in connection with your other data really can help you better analyse and take some further details to your remarks afterwards. I remember attacking hard, smashing >1200 Watt getting a massive separation, but I just wanted to get some points at a point lap, so no break-away idea in mind. By watching the footage and seeing how fast I actually pulled away, I realized that a more controlled not full-blown all out
whenever I am racing on the bicycle, it always feels like a long breath for the duration until it's in the final few seconds of the race. I l kno that I need to stay out of my head forsure but I just get so anxious and do not handle the nerves well but someone told me without having those nerves present, I wouldn't be able to perform. it's almost like when sitting in meditation and you get an itch but you try and not itch it and let it go away on it's own..ok, I am done now lol
I loved to sneak away from the prime I did it in d grade sat 3rd wheel during the sprint the two guys in front of me sprinted too the line for the prime they slowed up after the sprint while I pedalled past 40kmh and sneaked away solo for 1st and the guy that came 2nd didn’t even know 😂
Sorry to detract from the content! Excellent as always. I've noticed that your footage lately has had these wavy lines through the frames. Being in Australia if you set your camera shutter speed to 1/50 or 1/100 this should fix it! I won't explain why and its really not important but if you didn't know! Now you do. Best
my goal for the last lap of a criterium always was "to still be in the race" ;-)

Brilliant video Chris, cheers!
Thanks Chris
Good advice
As in running, find a better rider, make him enemy-number-one, and as best as possible STICK WITH HIM.
I saw that nice Norcal footage!

(Oh and if you want to keep the low F number use an ND filter).
from your friendly neighbourhood camera nerd.
Lol .. you forgot to mention the other riders in that race were A2 riders
Better to set a last lap goal than end result goal
Yes.Realistic Goal. Good. But ....
