At 05:30 I think it might be the handle of a cook's copper balloon whisk. All those strands open up to whisk egg whites ect.
It looks like it's broken at the point of maximum stress as you whisk.
The bulbous end is to protect the palm of your hand.

At 11:04 in your vid, the bit of ceramic is Chinese and looks to be pre-1912 (Qing Dynasty) as the Chinese characters are written right to left. Litterally: Gold, Jade, Full, Hall. “May your great hall be filled with treasure.” How appropriate. Probably the base of a good luck deity figurine like “god of wealth, etc…”

I was scratching my head trying to remember the characters from my Mandarin degree 25 years ago. I didn’t see the dot on the Jade character so I thought it was “wang” but of course it was “Yu” lucky I didn’t post a translation, I’d have never lived down the shame!

Secondly, I can’t fathom why they didn’t use it in the program. Such an interesting story for the viewers.
I do sometimes think that there can be a snobbery amongst archaeologists and maybe the antiques world in respect of metal detectorists, bottle diggers and mud larkers.
I would have thought that your story is far better that Joe Bloggs saying, “I was left this by my aunt Margaret. Can you tell me about it?”

What I use on my precious metals is toothpaste and a toothbrush, it will clean it until it is like new. The toothpaste will also act as an abrasive and help clean off the crud. Also I use vinegar and a rock tumbler to clean my coins. Throw some copper shavings or wire bits in with it and wait a day. Cleans them good enough to be used!

I love fine details and always laugh when people say less is more...nonsense, more is more, and I'd like a little bit more! My only disappointment is when Antiques Roadshow gave such a low valuation and that they decided against airing your segment. It would have made a fascinating change from the usual. Anyway, give Vicky a kiss from me, I'm sure she'll enjoy looking at your garden instead of face down in the muck! Best regards from Vancouver Island, Pamela 🇨🇦

My first thought on the broken carved stick was that it might be the back end of a Yad, which is a device used in the public reading of the Torah.

I always grew up imagining the Thames as being just yucky. But mudlarking the Thames looks like so much fun, I could see myself becoming a hoarder of “stuff” “junks” n “treasures” 😅
I realized only a year ago that I think I’m living on ancient Hawaiian ruins. The chickens have lowered the soil so literally every rock I pick up is super sus. I looked online and I’m so shocked I kinda don’t know what to do. I just put all the unique, cool, or whole pieces together in a collection until I figure out what to do with them. But it’s accumulated to an overwhelming amount, and I asked my aunt what she thinks real casually but got a pulse that I haven’t seen in years. I think her reaction yesterday is what has freaked me out the most like, Oh shit. This is real & significant. 😳

The Queen Victoria bust is a Commemorative Brass Bust of Queen Victoria, circa 1900 and it goes for anywhere between £500-£2,500 depending. So cool 😮
