yeah art is an expression of creative skills through any form in case you arent a skateboarder tricks like these are considered art they are different and creative not like every generic trick out there
My heart aches every time I watch this, it's just timeless. The overlay of what was and what is is a grim reminder of time's power. On the short list of my fav parts of all time skating.
I remember watching this for the first time 10 years ago with some of my best friends after tripping on shrooms at the beach all day on vacation. We were all coming down and this was literally one of the most beautiful, poetic, artistic videos I’ve ever seen! It still stands up today!
I cannot click the thumbs up button hard enough to express just how impressed and amazed I am by this video. I have been enjoying Killian Martin's skate videos for quite some time now, but only recently did I stumble upon this gem. I love Killian's skills without question, and having that presented in such a well produced video is icing on the cake. Thank you so much Killian Martin and Brett Novak for your creativity, talents, time, and effort, and for sharing this video with all of us.
The quality of the skateboarding and videography of this video is mindblowing. Every ten seconds I was astounded when I thought it had already peaked, and somehow got even better
This is one of the best music videos ever. The way it syncs up is near perfect. Especially from 1:16 on when that board hits the ground it's epic until the end.
The choice of location, coupled with the amazing music and scenes from the past, brings this to a whole new level of skate videos and shows the true talent and passion of the skaters for their craft not to mention yourself as a film maker. I love this entire series very much and I hope you will continue to bring us more magical skaters skating in more magical locations. Incredible stuff!
Other than the most amazing skills on a board I’ve seen, there’s something so beautiful about this man skating in this abandoned amusement park. Where people, laughter, love and fun have all left this place, this man comes to appreciate all its crevices, edges and imperfections, bringing back the fun and life to this place in his own way. Like a metaphor for loving someone after their heart had remained broken for a long time
Bret, perfect, reminded me of master Rodney Mullen in Almost's video ... Soundtrack, sensitivity, maneuvers, creativity. Congratulations! I really liked this video!
Born in 1991 I have lived in the Mojave desert my whole life. When Rocka Hoola Water Park opened 1999 I was there the first day and was there every spring and summer up til its closing in 2004. This video is amazing! From Killian Martin being as badass as Rodney Mullen, to the cinematography that myself and my uncle (a once professor for the State Art Institute and 20+ year tv executive) find impressive to say the least. You both have more than outdone yourselves. I look forward to you both developing as Skaters and Filmmakers and seeing your future work. Thank You for the nostalgia that of my childhood and of many others from the, "Expansive Mojave Desert." ~ J. Burkhart
I first watched this video yeaaars ago and thought it was just one of the best edits ever because of the time travelling aspect of it. Just a couple of weeks ago, I passed by rock-a-hoola and had to go explore it a little which I've wanted to since first seeing this. Seeing the difference in what it looks like today versus in the video versus in the old footage they edited in was such a trip. Every surface is covered in graffiti now. There some good pieces up out there and Swampy (infamous train tramping artist) left his mark in 2017.
This is one of the best skate videos I’ve ever watched & keep coming back to watch. It’s magical, mystical, eerie & amazing all at once. So basically my favourite skate vids include this & everything with Rodney Mullen in it.
Wow, I can’t believe this was filmed 10 years ago! This is really amazing quality for a video that old, I just found this and thought it was recent. Also, it was beautiful to see the visions of what the park used to be in the past compared to what it can be used for now (or ten years ago) and the beauty of repurposing into something new. 🥳🙌✨
the concept here is both a beautiful one and a depressing one. the adventure created by the skater in an otherwise abandoned location is beautiful, while the past glory of the amusement park left for ruin offers a sad statement about how all things have their lifespan but eventually die. the soundtrack accentuated these emotions exceptionally. i'm blown away.
i used to not understand freestyle skaters when they get annoyed whenever someone mentions rodney. and i just realized why. every single freestyle video you'll see in the comments "rodney would be proud" its literally everywhere.
@@dylanherron3963 Rodney is my fav skater. i have his autographed pro model on my wall. I'm not being pretentious, its just an observation. yes, he would be proud, but we get it
faaack I was singing the song all day going where the hell do I know this from ? haunted me til I remembered this old video .love it as much as when I first saw it years ago.
YES THIS VIDEO!THE NAME KILIAN MARTIN! I remember it clearly, i was 15 yrs old who live in a very poor state in a country like india. I stumbled upon this video and that is the day i discovered skateboarding. Its was an unreal experience seeing this video for the first, i never knew things like this exist. At that time i never in my life thought i could do anything close to that. Fast forward 9 yrs, here i am living in the best country i never even imagined i would, thanks to my parents. I moved to dubai 7 yrs back, dubai really changed my life. Finally i could experience the foreign culture and the first thing i bought was a skateboard. Never got off it since then. This video was the reason i even got to know about skateboarding and ofcource kilian martin too. I was searching for this video soo long now.i can rest easy now haha.
Sorry for my english... I m almost blind, i will be totally in few years. only to say that your shorts films are for me a joy, the joy yo always see something, your poetry... thank you so much
ive lost count how many times ive watched this........its not just his fantastic innovative skating..its the whole film..great to see skate films moving forward...not a fish eye lens and a hiphop track in sight!!!!.......thank you thank you for brett and kilians creative gift
buena música, buen sitio para patinar y el mejor eskater del mundo para mi y mucha más gente este mundo que es un pañuelo. Este hombre es y será mi héroe y ídolo del skate hasta el fin de mis días
Nunkima GR Son How does that make sense Nunkima. You said he isn't the best at pure street or freestlye. So he's not the best at what he does. Yet somehow he's the best skater in the world?
This is my most favorite short movie if not ever then of this year at least - I'm addicted to Patrick's music, I love the perfection of Kilian's performance, adore Brett's great, bright camera and cut ...the scenery - awesome
I'm going to get yelled at for saying this. Beautiful filming, and great skating. But there was an entire water park at their disposal, and they filmed a bunch of freestyle flatground that could have been filmed anywhere. I wish I had seen more creative use of the spot. just my thoughts.
The kids good but he is no Rodney Mullen. go watch a couple Mullen Videos and then come back and this wont be quite as impressive. Still very impressive though. I just prefer watching the master.
Rodney and Killian are my favorite skaters! Of course Rodney invented almost everything, but Kilian is also very ingenious... and skates so steezy, too. Both make as if it was easy. The have absolute control of their boards... simply amazing! Despite Rodney not leaving much to invent, Kilian always finds new tricks to be performed. I wish I could skate like either of them. Saying one is "better" than the other only demonstrates ignorance.
Almost exactly 10 years ago, this was one of the skate videos playing in the background of every single party I hosted. Coming back to see it again blows me away. Absolutely stunning in every way!
I finished here from my italian abandoned water park drone video that I posted 3 days ago on my channel and I could only say: MAGNIFIC! Never seen this video but now it's currently the 10th time I replay! I'm loving it!
This has been living rent free in my head since I first saw it on vimeo in 2012, great stuff I do miss the short film days of vimeo, kind of gives the flashbacks in the video a sort of meta-textual meaning by age
8 years later and this video still gives me goosebumps. People keep comparing every freestyle skater to Rodney, who obviously is the GOAT. Rodney had all his stuff down on lock and created so much for skating. He had a precision like no other. But watching Kilian is like watching a dancer expressing themselves to the fullest extent. Kilian isn't worried about precision or competition; he's just expressing himself and being as free as he can possibly be.
this is one of sickest skate videos i have ever seen. great job on the production. the 4 min production time of this video is just as satisfying as the entire cut of round 3
Found this skater, channel, video and song about 2 years ago, and loved the crap out of it. Coming back this makes me feel really happy and nostalgic even thought it was only a few years.
Brett this is still one of the best edited and choreographed videos I have ever seen. Perfect song, perfect setting and perfect timing at so many different parts. Well done to all involved.
So 8 years later and this is still my favorite skateboard video on youtube.

There is something so beautiful about this, I get all teary eyed every time I watch it.
Don't let Patty find out😳
Both film maker and skater are genius. LOVED the time-traveling transitions.
I've never seen a skate video like this before. You took the video genre to another level. Big thumbs up, bro.
This video is amazing Eugene Baldovino ! The video is well done on all ends and dude skating is SICK!
+herpderpmonkey he didnt invent freestyle
They used this song in a new Samsung commercial and I immediately remembered this video and how it made me want to cry the first time I saw it.
You're not lying, when he runs up and starts going crazy with the tricks on the ledge while the music is at the peak. Shits just beautiful
