These baby bird videos are integral to the bird ownership world. Although we don’t want to encourage baby bird ownership and breeding however there is literally NOTHING on the internet about baby macaws

As soon as I saw the title of this video, I clicked. That is a main concern of mine. I have a one year old blue throat macaw and his feathers are a bit gnarly. He gets sun everyday and just started taking full on baths in the kitchen sink. I let him take the lead on that. He wants to about once a week. I don't want to push it and ruin it. He's broken a couple tail feathers and a primary flight feather at the skin line that ended up having to be extracted. I'm very relieved to hear that this is normal for babies and he'll take better care of his feathers as he gets older. I'm definitely trying the aloe spray. I'm also glad to hear babies are motivated by praise. I was afraid I was doing it "wrong". He loves nuts, but I act like he just solved world peace in lieu of the clicker. He hates the clicker.

A great way to desensitize a bird to a clicker if it makes them nervous is to put it in your pocket to mute the sound. Over time you should be able to progress with it outside your pocket. Hope this helps 😀

@@BirdTricks I remember you had a client whose bird was afraid of the clicker because it was too loud, and successfully substituted with clicking a retractable pen. 🖊 🔊 🦜

I remember an Animal Planet clip for an avian vet who said that cockatoos and hyacinth macaws were the "woe is me" birds lol. Yes, I think the baby bird course would be in order.

I wish I had seen this sooner! I was so worried about my baby eclectus’ numerous stress bars. I had the vet do a work up! He’s a year old and still hasn’t completely molted yet. HE HATES BATHS and will not let me spray under his wings.
    Clearly I MUST HAVE ALOE!
Thank you for all you guys do for birds❤️

It's like you guy's read my mind.... the stress bars and ungrommed feathers have me stressed and thought my baby was possibly plucking.. lmao, like I literally made a vet appointment this morning to get her checked.. this is comforting

I have a baby budgie. She just finally went through her first molt. She's 8 months old now. She looks really good now that all of those old feathers are gone. I was happy when she lost her bigger flight and tail feathers that they weren't holey or too bad. She's learned to bath pretty well now and she now eats well. It was hard getting her off of the seeds. She gets daily sunlight and she looks good. She flys very well now. She ascends and descends and I have learned to use safe fans to teach her to fly in the winds now. I have several different floor fans and some I can set high up to mimic different types of winds and speeds with a wind speed monitor. I'll never try to free fly her as her being a budgie buy I want to give her the skills to be able to get back to me if she ever gets outside. I decided to do this when I saw Jamie's video of BlueBerry getting outside. I'm working on building an outside flight area so she can get as much exercise as possible and learn to get out of trees if she has to. I've never been able to afford any of the classes but, I've used everything I've been able to learn from their and a few others free videos and other free material. I'm very happy with what we have achieved so far and Im now trying to help others that I've come across that have budgies. It really gets me when I see someone with a cage bound seed only fed budgie. I offer as much help as I can and whet they will willingly learn and use for their birds.

It makes sense sunshine's good for the birdy feathers -- my cat and I need it for all that vitamin D to keep our bones strong and melanin to help with depression and sleeplessness and all sorts of other health needs. Even five minutes a day of a cloudy sky will make a huge difference -- also, the UVA+B rays in natural light discourage the growth of any kind of fungus, as I'm sure everyone's aware (not accessible through modern glass windows.) Vitamin D is also notoriously hard for our (mammalian) bodies to absorb through anything other than milk products and sunshine. So right on you 100% for keeping the fids in your care outdoors as much as possible Jaime Leigh! But then you knew that already 🤩🥰😍

Hey Jamie, I have a request. I have read your blog about different macaw species and their temperaments but you have missed out some of them. If you could please do a video about the larger macaw species and their temperament it would be great. I have questions regarding Scarlets, is the bad reputation really justified? Do they get worse with age more than other species?
    Thanks

Any tips on how to get birds to enjoy, or even tolerate sunlight? I LOVE being out in the sun, but my birds HATE it! They love being outdoors in the shade & chatting with the wild lorikeets, but put in half sun, they hide in the shaded corner of the cage, put in full sun, they just sit there looking stressed & won't move, won't even talk to the wild birds. I haven't persevered for long periods when they do that, maybe if I did they'd get used to it, but I don't feel right doing that.
It's winter here now, so too cold for my plucker to be outside for more than a short period (some days at all), but I have been trying on my enclosed veranda, with some north sun coming down at an angle into some of the cage, which doesn't seem to totally freak them out, but they still won't go into the sun's rays, even when it's cold. I'd love for them to enjoy the sun with me! They have a history of abuse & a decade or so indoors in tiny cages, which no doubt is impacting how they feel about the sun, but not really sure how or how to address it

Hi Jamie Lee I have a 10 month pineapple greencheek conure. He/she will not groom her feathers. Although she does allow me to do it. She has no interest in doing it for herself. DO you have any tips for this? Baths do not help. She does not like water. I have watched your videos about bathing your parrot and getting them used to water. I basically have to spray her while allowing her to perch on me which is totally fine. I'll do anything she needs to be healthy and have a happy life.

    Hi Jamieleigh,
    I have a question
I create my own aloë spray, containing 25% aloë gel (fresh) and 75% water. I got good results with it. But I want to check it with you guys. I also give fresh aloë and neem leafs and blosom. I want the best so I want to ask if this is okay. As dar as I know good for feathers and eyes. As well as lots of health benefits.

With a smaller parrot like a sun conure, do you always recommend this? My baby is weened, she’s is almost 9mos but can be a bit temperamental when it comes to any water. Some weeks she goes into a bath on her own, other weeks… her moodiness kicks in and she won’t want to talk to me for like an hour and then will get over it and come right to cuddle (which I try not to cuddle too much bc she also gets a little hormonal if she’s doing it too long). She’s been great with target training and everything else and sometimes doesn’t even want a treat but just a “good girl, mami” lol.

I have a 13 week old Jen day conure and it seems like it is regressing as far as allowing me to pet it. When it’s on my shoulder it’s he’s more willing but if he is standing on something in front of me it acts scared of my hand. What should I do? I want to start harness training but it’s going to be hard if he will barley let me pet him.

I have an apartment for my birds out our back, my mother lives with us n she's afraid of my macaw its the flapping but because he was out in a bird safe room he didn't break feathers, he has got stress bars, but I feel like his moult is non stop its luke it started at 6 months for almost 5 months as it started to calm a bit he started another moult, so I didn't think much of it because it was his 1st year, now he's 16 months and not ling out of his 3rd moult then this morning he dropped a long tail feather thats only finished growing around 4 months..should I be worried, now other than that he showers regularly and gets rain he is free flying since 4 months old, but his full sister is breaking all her feathers, a Friend thinks she may have a compacted preening gland, but I can find no information on stress bars , when should they naturally stop age wise..yes very helpful ,..n I send anyone looking for help with there birds ..normally to a target training video..but allo ill try that..
