IMHO, MISA's countermelodies always seem to not only add volume to the sound but often adds an additional tapestry of sound that adds to the beauty of the song.
There's is such a lot to like ... no, to love about this song. It's brimming with so many small great musical moments; it's almost unbelievable that they bring them together in just one song. But should we really be surprised to have another jewel added to their brilliant songbook? I think not, because this is Band-Maid, one of the most reliable bands on the (hard-)rock circuit. Their signature trademark: highest aesthetic quality ... and that always.
Kanami is a genius composer. Kanami had this to say about FORBIDDEN TALE: "What is 'life'?, 'being alive'? etc. I produced this song with the biggest theme in the history of BAND-MAID. A lot has happened over the past three and a half years. It made me think. What does it mean to live? Is there such a thing as heaven? How was your life like? Were you happy along the way? The proof you lived, If I could represent your life with this song... as such, I included such a message, I created this song in the hope of leaving a song of what I think of 'life' is. I did not talk to the vocalist SAIKI (who wrote the lyrics) about the theme in depth, but the lyrics brought tears to my eyes. I will be happy if this song will remain in your heart." PS MISA was playing her signature bass (the Black Smoker TM-BETA JMB5 MISA) which the luthier company Black Cloud gifted her last year.
Hey Tony nice to hear from you man. Wow that is so awesome hearing the story behind this. It makes perfect sense now. These ladies just find a way to always surprise you.
Excellent analysis sir! The girls develop seven different themes in these four and a half minutes so I tend to think of this song as a rhapsody. Rhapsody in Maid!, why not. Thanks Bob!.
A good song. Not one of my favorites from them, probably mid tier for me, but still good. The most noticeable part, I think, is Akane's drums. They released another video since this came out, for the song "Zen". Not to be confused with the Nemophila song "Zen", which is all harsh vocals.
The songs already released earlier last year are just Band-Maid awesomesauce! The six new songs are so tightly integrated and complex, it's going to take a Tokyo minute to assimilate. But I already love Forbidden Tale, and especially The One. 😉🤘 btw - We should all wish a "Good Luck" to Band-Maid's new self-run management company: Maidit, Co., LTD! Will they managing other bands, boost Cluppo and Maiko projects, or tour more internationally? Or maybe they will expand their business interest to other sectors of the music biz outside of Band-Maid. I believe Kanami wants to get more into composing, scoring and production. And as for Miku and Saiki, the sky's the limit for what they'll want to do in merch, fashion and art, etc.. The music and execution in Epic Narratives is sophisticated and delightfully listenable. But the lyrics and concepts they're based on catapult EN to epic levels. Thx, Bob! 🤘😉🎀
It’s a good song, but after listening to the band over several years, it seems to just blend in with their other songs. There are many areas with similar notes to other songs. With that being said, as usual the musicianship is quite good, but that’s kind of expected from them. I just felt it didn’t differentiate that much.
Yeah same old same old song chorus/verse structure every time lol. I don't know what the heck you are hearing but I'm hearing one of the most progressive rock compositions ever, played expertly, but that's me.
@ I only mentioned that the song felt similar to others by them. That’s not unexpected when one member is the primary composer as they must write within their capabilities. I indicated it was still a good song, but I disagree it’s a best ever, probably in the mediocre range. But if it’s more to you, I’m good with that.

Well said Bill.

Great comments and spot on thanks!

Kanami’s songwriting is on her own level 🔥 Magical stuff. Lovin’ Band-Maid ❤️🔥
Man they are fantastic. I love them too.
Zen is brilliant .Honkai sideshow with Misa and Akane intro is absolutely incredible🤘🤘🤘💛💛💛
Notice Kanami is playing her new Private Stock PRS guitar in this song. If you do "Zen", you'll see her new Signature PRS 😉!
That is a sweet guitar! She is so amazing!
Kanami shreds her new private stock PRS.
I know! That guitar is a beast and so is she.

Awesome thoughts Juan.
I bet you enjoyed the songwriting elements. 🕊️
You got it right, I love the songwriting in this song!
Did you catch the jazz section @ 4:20 ? ☺️ And look for Akane-san’s grip here.
Yeah that Jazz section was sick. Akane is incredible.
Do their recent one Zen by Band-Maid
Thanks I’ll check it out.

I think you would get a big kick out of an amazing family band from the Philippines called Missioned Souls…..maybe try Separate Ways first….

You might have a point that this one had the same vibe.
