    This is why it was so hard for me to find my colors. I looked good in every color with the exception of cool and radiant colors. And even with that, I somehow look great in saturated pinks, some saturated blues, and black.

  • @Laura-vs6fs
    @Laura-vs6fs 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    I think a very important factor is the red and green balance, like when you talked about hair colors in an older video. I am warm and delicate, but I am yellow toned with no red to my actual undertone. In this video rihanna looks quite bad in her outfit tbh bc she is just so red in her undertone. I sometimes saw her as warm in some pics, but I thought she might be cool and delicate with a rosy undertone bc of how bad she looks in actually warm colors. I personally think a brighter green or a light blue, look great on me, even though I am warm and delicate. Peach, salmon and coral look bad as the colors stands out too much from my skin tone, but I look very yellow and warm in them. I am quite pale though and highly contrasted with very warm, but dark to mid brown hair and brown eyes. In pics I might even look cool toned if the lighting is very bright. I would wear the royal blue bathing suit over the peach anytime. I noticed also that even as an SD, wearing head to toe very dark colors is just too much, so I think mid toned colors create enough contrast for me without being too light. I think they really lift up my features and skin tone. Also light colors can contrast with my hair and eyes and that is where the contrast is rather than in wearing dark clothes. I can pull off black, but in the end it just isn't IT. I prefer yellows, gold, greens, greys, yellow toned browns and beiges, taupes, blues, silver, but I still wear other colours intentionally, knowing they will contrast with my skin in a different way.

    So, two of the colours on the warm and delicate palette are ones that I have been wearing today! All of those colours look great on me and I'm naturally drawn to them.
    I've always been in conflict with my undertone. I just don't feel that I fall into the cool category but when I try a true warm foundation I look orange. If I go for a neutral foundation that leans slightly warm then I'm winning. This makes sense now. I'm warm but not as warm as a warm radiant.
    Sorry for the waffle but I think that I've just had a lightbulb moment 😊

  • @realSimoneCherie

    I appreciate the emphasis on delicate versus radiant, I think colloquially I associate those as being “intense” or “muted” -
    Super important feature of color analysis, and it does not get as much attention as temperature, everyone is desperate to know if they are warm or cool - in my opinion there are very small percentage of people who are just so cool that they are not going to be flattered by any warm colors, or who are so warm that they will not not look flattered by any cool colors - most people seem to be quite neutral and just leaning one way or the other.
    On the other hand most people do have very high intensity or very muted coloring, (delicate or radiant), and absolutely will struggle to pull off any color that doesn’t possess that feature.

    Gold vs silver - inconclusive

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  หลายเดือนก่อน

      also more pigment in your skin means more of every color. so the eye still sees harmony. if you wear yellow 'sure i see a bit of yellow' if you wear blue 'sure i see a bit of blue'. vs if you have only a tiny bit of pigment the eye may not pick up on the undertones that you have very little of, and then it wouldn't see harmony. this is also why some lighter people feel they can pull off more colors in summer. more pigment means more color options. you still have your best colors just like everyone, but you just have more options. the bad ones aren't as bad/unflattering.

    Hi Merriam,really insightful video as always. On the iPhone Photos app there is an option to ‘Edit’ and use the Colour Dropper tool to select colours from pictures (which can be used to get colour code #s for eye colour, lip colour, skin colours and blush in cheeks etc.) Do you think this would be helpful and accurate for people looking to narrow down the colours that suit them, or would the camera filters possibly skew the actual skin tones?
    Also, would you have any specific makeup brand/product recommendations or generic celebrity makeup inspirations/icons for each of the 4 colour types? (conscious these wouldn’t be body type specific, but as a starting point?) In the online colour analysis world I’ve seen a meme recommending Charlotte Tilbury for Warm and Delicate (glowy, bronzed looks), MAC for Warm and Radiant (bright, vivid looks), Chanel for Cool and Radiant (strong black eyeliner and red lip looks) and Estee Lauder for Cool and Delicate types (gentle pink and taupe looks). Obviously these brands carry both warm and cool products but the meme referenced the overall ‘vibes’ these brands tend to give. Despite all of the online beauty community resources, I’ve never found any failsafe foundation/concealer/powder products that I felt truly matched my skin tone (I’m sure they’re out there! I’ve just got a bit of makeup shopping fear 😅 and there’s so so so many products available today but I get overwhelmed trying to commit to one) . I think you’ve a previous video about the warm olive skin tone featuring Mila Kunis as an example, would there be scope for a series of similar videos for the other colour types (conscious also that people view from many different regions and may not have access to specific makeup brands), but any advice would be greatly appreciated from this (most likely!) Cool and Delicate with Rosy undertones and a penchant for subtle fake tan!!

Gold (drape) looks better but it’s a bit too warm. Silver jewellery looks a bit better than gold but I think it’s because it’s a small area, the drapes are bound to have more of an effect. I have mid to dark brown hair and light blue green eyes My skin looks pretty yellow and pale to me. When I try a clear peach against a clear pink, the peach pulls out all the sallow and redness and the pink looks more harmonious even though you can see I’m not pink and I still have redness (damage from dairy intolerance).

    What does this mean for winters/true winter? I knew all along I sat well in generally winter, cool bright shades, but also many Dark Winter colors. Took people in my online groups seeing me tan for the first time to get what I've been telling them all the time lol. I'm olive and look gray. I found an article by Medline on this subject on some Olives who look grayish, and that it's rare for the olives especially paler ones bc it's hard to spot it until you cross and tan into the Fitzpatrick 3 or 4. I've been on chemo so I understand undertone is kinda a sham, we're all predominantly warm, but some are more red based, others yellow, but some rare people cross into the spectrum of light and are thus "olive". Such cool concepts. But can be rough figuring out your palette. Once I've really understood focus on colors and finding what works vs. obsess over the name of a season and subseason lol.

    I wonder about the warm delicate and that you always say they often get placed into cool. Why do they not just go into soft autumn? wouldnt they fit into that quite well? Im asking while being extremely secptical about color seasons / 12 seasons. long story...

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I really don't know why they aren't just placed into soft autumn. it could also be because warm and delicate skin undertones can still sometimes have cool hair and cool eyes, so in other approaches, whether you're cool or warm is based on all your features in combination, depending on the analyst. I'm not sure if the analyst is actually 'mistyping' people's skintone itself, or if they are simply valuing the other cool features more than I do.
      I value skin tone above all else to determine your main color family, and then if you have warm features, I like to recommend including some warmer colors away from the face, but I wouldn't put someone officially into cool unless their skin was actually cool. Just depends on how people like to do it. I tend to have better results valuing the skin tone the most.

      That is so interesting. At some point I doubted how warm I really am or how cool I should go. I always saw myself as some autumn but got draped winter then (4 seasons). I knew it was too cool and especially that it was way too much chroma for me but yes, the skin looked smooth and all that. I was still sure Im warm. Later I found out that I do have some coolness within my warmth too and that I do need darkness/charcoal in my colors to make them really click with me. I understood why I got that winter. But I needed warm and I am low chroma, yet need contrast (I think do have some contrast in my features).
      Low chroma but needing darkness / contrast, that doesnt exist in 12 seasons and it can give you some cognitive dissonance to be in that place. I eventually decided they are just wrong somehow. So you can imagine, that what you explain makes much more sense from my perspective than anything I heard before! :-)
      I even noticed that I lack red in my coloring and lean greenish, its so great that you talk about it now!!
      So thank you and thumbs up!

    There are plenty of colors. Can’t believe I’m hearing this from a color analyst 😕 Purple isn’t « just purple ». Just type « different » shades of purple and you’ll see that they do look different. And they don’t all fit into 1 seasonal type.

      This is in part why I don't use the seasonal system. In my approach, purple is more or less just purple.
      edit: to be clear, there are different shades and even subcategories of purple, and some of them will look better on lighter vs darker colorings depending on someone's features, but all of those purples that are known as 'different' from each other aren't that different from each other in my eyes....in other words, they are 'more or less purple'.
