Normal is not normal, I totally 💯 agree. People that knows, know what Dan mean. Don’t focus on society and social media rather focus on your health and inner peace. For all my CFS angels out there,someday you too will fly again. 🙏🏼
I don’t usually comment on You Tube but I feel compelled to after listening to this (which is probably the most authentic video I have watched in the CFS category). I have CFS and I also have 2 small kids and financially I have to work for us to just stay afloat. I have not been able to do recovery perfectly at all, and actually comparing myself to other people online who seem to be perfect in their recovery, was actually a huge stressor in itself. So I let go of that and did the best that I could. I have a job that has flexibility and allows me to work outside in nature for some of it. I walk my son to school and wouldn’t consider any schools that were outside of walking distance. I eat junk in addition to eating healthily because I found that cooking “from scratch” in itself was a massive stressor in terms of how much time and energy it took. I am now about 80% recovered and have also let go of the time frame that I put on myself to heal. Maybe one day I will share my story to other Mum’s with CFS, or people without financial security to show that it is do-able. Thanks for sharing this!
I can get excited & caught up in a work project and before u know it I've been working 12 hours straight or til 3 in the morning. Especially when I was a TH-camr - highly toxic job because it can require or appear to require endless activity. TH-cam terminated my channel for no good reason at all & no warning - turned out to be the best thing that happened to me for my mental health.
You talk of how important it is to keep your eye on the goal and maintain good habits & structure. Yes!! For me, It took a lot of work and a couple years to put all this in place, but I finally did! I've got a good ways to go to full recovery, but I know I'm definitely on the right road. Thank you, Dan (& ANS Rewire), and Raelan! Your work/knowledge is priceless!

I think this was a really valuable conversation to have-thank you so much for having it! I have lot of respect for the contributions you both have and continue to make for the CFS community. You are 100 percent correct in that making healthy choices feels a lot of the time like going against the grain as they say. There’s a wonderful book that’s speaks to this topic in a very thought-provoking way by Pilar Gerasimo called “The Healthy Deviant”. Pilar has her own recommendations for how to remain authentic to oneself and avoid falling prey to the unhealthy norm; it’s both inspiring and validating.
Thank you both so much. This is such a valuable reminder of the importance of intention setting and presence. Easy to do at home, alone, in my journal, but much more difficult to stay on track when with others, due to wanting to join in, or be accepted, or people please. Every day is a training day! I am 3 years into ME/CFS and feel as tho I have been to the University of Wellness! I am starting year 4 at Masters level! So looking forward to my graduation... 🎓😍🙏🎉
I'm so glad you two addressed this topic. Something I keep thinking about is how I also want to be one of those people who returns to "give back" after recovering. (I've already taken a wellness coaching course, but I'm still not recovered yet. Maybe went out of order, haha). I also think giving back to individuals who are already sick is great, but trying to change the overarching culture and public policy to prevent the illness from forming in the first place would be even better. We live in an illness-producing culture and I believe our illnesses are signs that not only our individual lifestyles and choices need to change, but the broader culture needs to drastically change as well. Highly sensitive people evolved to support the survival of the species. I might sound a little out there, but I believe most people who get CFS/fibro/POTS/long COVID/etc. are HSPs and our symptoms aren't just alarm bells for us, but for humanity as a whole.
Thanks Raelan and Dan. You guys are my CFS heroes. Dan, I have not yet been able to make your program work for me but totally believe in it. Thank you for bringing up the topic of body image. Very few people mention it but it seems to be prevalent in CFS/ME/FM sufferers. As someone in my 6th decade, I can't believe how the body beautiful driver has accelerated in the past 4o years or so. At first it was mainly women but now has moved on to men - the hair, the body, etc. It has been ingrained deep into my subconscious and I am having a hard time routing it out.

A lovely discussion from both of you. It's important to do something each day that we can give back to ourselves. We are so good at giving our energies and souls to others..but upon reflection what do we give to ourselves?. Whether this be a bath by 🕯️. A walk on the beach or in the forest. Life does get in the way, if this is you. My advice stick a coloured sticky label above your kettle with a nice daily to do task. Such as a massage, yoga, a walk, meditation. Or seeing a friend. Even if it's only 10 minutes. We all need to give ourselves some self love and tender loving care.
i feel SOO much better about my lapses now XD meditation is the hardest one for me to stick at, though diet runs a close 2nd and currently mine's been atrocious (every 3 days; pizza, bounty bar, mars bar, sweets) my sweet tooth has come back with a vengeance Thing is, as i get better and can handle more foods, i increase the frequency until i feel worse again lol i swing between perfection and the complete opposite XD Even so, my progress over time is still there. Im finding reintegration the hardest cos ive so much fear

I went on a three day brain retraining course. Came away a different person. did not last. Talked to my coach on phone ...felt good again ..didn't last...talked to her again, felt good...did not last ...in the end I decided this stuff does not work and is not sustainable. It was like i needed that constant pep talk and that i am unable to do it myself or by myself. I do think brain re wiring is a must have component but for me I quickly go back into old negative thinking and symptoms get me very down and I fell like "i can't do this"
I was on vegan for eight months & I did get better but then I was still sick because I needed some chicken some fish some beacon some fat especially in the winter. U have to eat healthy which means no sugar pasta processed foods overall - u can have a piece of cake once in awhile.
I'm comparing myself with the 80 year old who is full of enthusiasm & joy & energy strutting past me down the street while I'm dragging my cement heavy legs like a tortoise and she's the hare
Dont get this wrong, i think your work is important, at the moment, but i cant wait till biomedicin did its job and we dont need this dumb explanation of a severe organic disease anymore.

People are lonely & isolated. Being at home all the time is lonely being at we work is lonely

All diseases has a stressor and emotional cause which lowers the immune system to fight off viruses and other problems
