Thanks. And a simple upgrade on the hinges, I switched to a "Lift off" style stainless steel hinge. They have a male/ female coupling system. No bolt to remove or lose. Just simply lifts off in a second
I appreciate it! Actually upgraded to a lift off style stainless hinge. Now it lifts off in 2 seconds, I just lift up the door and it comes off. Top half of hinge is a male fitting, the bottom is a female.
Pretty easy I replaced those door pins with stainless "Lift off" pins, now I just lift the door off and set it in the garage, literally takes 2 seconds
Looks great you did a nice job possibly for the insides you could use that that pipe insulation to wrap around the conduit and to fill the gap on the drivers side.
Thank you. I'm still making amendments to them. I added an angled plate to utilize the seat belt mounting bolts above the mirror mounts to add strength. I'm also going to revisit my latch mechanism, just to simplify it.
I agree: great job and the oem doors/half doors are stupid expensive! More than I will ever pay. I have a crew so, it's gonna be a challenge but you gave me motivation to do what I had been thinking about...lol
Thanks. I actually switched to a stainless steel lift off style hinge. Works awesome, it's a male/ female type. No pin to pull, just lifts off in a second and done
Great build! I have a Kawasaki Teryx 4 and I don’t feel like spending three to $5000 for doors. I’m definitely running with your idea bro thank you so much for posting this!
Look into stainless steel "Lift off" hinges. I switched to that, no pins to pull. Good luck and I totally agree with the crazy prices they want for these "stamped"out doors.
You did a really good job making those doors for your utv, and I see they fit perfect. If it will rattle while driving, then you could put rubber around it for both sealing and remove rattle sounds. But it will keep a lot of dust outside cabin while driving I guess.
Thanks and I will definitely do videos while I ride. They're very quiet, I have rubber foam tape on the one place they rub. My old side by side was notorious for dust, like most are, because of the opening by the foot well behind the front tire. Time will tell but they already beat those nets all to hell
@@ironheadbiker I did at first commenting before I was finished watching your video, and I heard you did mention while riding that you was already talking about rubber seal. But I think theese doors will work great, so much better than the net doors that doesn't do anything good regarding dust and cover.
Go buy some stainless steel "Lift off" hinges. There's no pin to pull. Just lift up on the door and walk away. I switched to them and they're much better
good job and they are NOT suicide doors . the trim you were having problem with ,all you have to do is cut a v notch in both sides of the trim were it turns , the v notch should almost be cut all the way through so when you bend the trim it form a miter joint like a picture frame. AND for poor old GENERAL your dog you can a window opening in the door and put a piece of pexiglass for the window, and if your afraid of getting it all scraped up put a piece of wire mesh sandwiched between the door and pexiglass
The suicide doors I was referring to, are the ones Superatv sells. They hinge at the rear. I'm not a fan of those. I changed my hinges to the stainless lift off hinges. No pin to pull (they're a male/ female connection) and they literally come off in 2 seconds. Great tip on the notching the trim. I appreciate it.
Thanks man, yeah I'm very happy. Refining them here and there to make fabrication easier to duplicate. For example a better hinge style, (I love how easy they are to remove for around the house), and a better latching system. The cost (without labor) might go up around $150 per door, but the time I'll save will be worth it. Then might put them up for sale. I've had several (over 20) inquires, so I thought let's give er a try.
Absolutely Impressed. With the doors, your channel, your machine. I just came across your videos the other day. Lmk if you start selling then because I would buy a set off you. Only thing I think needs some improvement is the hood latch how you have to lift and hook the door. Why not just put a pin and breakaway latch similar to the superatv doors? Other than that they seem to hold up beautifully and They are sleek and very nice. Keep the videos rollin man. Great Job
The big thing is wanted to remove them easily. I now changed the design where it's a lift off hinge like a jeep. No pin just lift up and they're off. I work around the house a lot and the doors is a pain in the ass when I'm getting in and out all the time. Thanks for the kind words and yes I'm trying to perfect them to sell them.
And you are absolutely right about the latch. That's my big problem. Their's opens suicide, so the latch is easier to mount to a hard point. I don't want suicide doors, so it's tough coming up with a good hard point to mount a stud. But that's the direction I'm going. I misread your initial post. Thought you were talking about my hinge instead of the latch. I redesigned the door frame so I don't have to weld anything, redesigned the door mount using 1/4" plate, so I don't have to weld there, added stainless steel lift off hinges, so no pins to remove. Now I just need a good solid latch point and opener mechanism. It's hard because in the back side of the roll bar its all surrounded by plastic, I'm trying to avoid making a latch mounting bracket but I think I'm going to have to. I'm trying to keep my costs down so I can have a very competitive price. Kinda like the cfmoto brand. Cheap but effective. Except the American in me says strong thick steel! Lol.
Yeah I see what you are saying. Anyway I think you could really make some money if you market them correctly because really the only option at the moment is $800 on superatv doors. Now for the stainless steel hardware going through the plastic straight into the tube frame on the inside. Are they just screwed into the conduit or did you go through the conduit and put a nut. Curious how you did that
Actually just used half round conduit clamps. At the hinge I double sided 1/8 plate steel. Then just used 3/8" bolts with vinyl nuts to hold everything on. Doors are very lightweight
Thanks. Yeah they're pretty simple, just gotta refine some. I switched the latch mechanism, and added lift off hinges, so no pins to pull. They're just time consuming. Hard to price them to make it worth the labor to make.
Awesome job! If you can please share what department you found the plastic I would really appreciate it. I have Lowes and HD here locally but can't seem to locate any plastic panels like this. Thank you!
It was in the paneling department. Also I switched the door hinges with stainless steel "Lift off" hinges. Top half is a male fitting, bottom half is a female. Top half lifts right out of the bottom and goes with the door. Literally 2 seconds to remove. I bought my plastic in 4x8 sheets, but 4x4 should work for each side. They're still working awesome.
@@ironheadbiker thank you for your reply! Have you tried to add a top section to the lowers to have an optional/convertible full door? I’d really like to incorporate that in addition to what you did to allow for a couple different options.
Thanks. I highly recommend using stainless steel "Lift off" hinges for the doors. That's what I switched to after this video. They're awesome, male/ female connection, no pins to pull, and the whole door literally lifts off in 2 seconds. Good luck
I could live with those doors. I'm a man that doesn't like to be separated from his money. I've already spent to much on front & back bumpers plus a windshield. They want over a $1300 for the skid plate so going make my own.
Yeah I'm with you! Then when I see "there" doors, they open suicide, can't come off. I switched my hinges to "Lift off" style, they just lift up and my door is off literally 2 seconds. I love the uhmw plastic, 4x8 1/4" about $60. Heated up it bends and hardens back up. Made parts with it for my blinkers I installed
That's an idea, but he sees out just fine, he's part mastiff and loves to sleep. So after awhile he just takes a nap. Lol. He usually walks over next to me and lays down.
The latch I used a rubber hood latch that hooks onto a stud. The cutout I used a piece of cardboard, held it against the opening from the outside, went to the other side and got into the cab and traced it roughly. Then cut along the lines I traced and just slowly trimmed a little bit more each time until it fit the opening perfectly, then used a grease pen and traced the cardboard door onto the plastic I used. It was pretty easy. I just needed a good sized cardboard box that I unfolded to cover the whole opening.
It's HDPE 1/4" plastic. I got it at Menards, which is like a Home Depot or Lowe's. At the time it was $60 per 4'x8' sheet. Thanks for the thumbs up. I added "Lift off" hinges now so I don't even have a pin to pull. Takes 2 seconds to be door free.
