A card you missed with the Lyriluscs was Independent Nightingale. While the card itself wasn't to much to write home about, cards with effect copies made it pretty strong, with cards like the Tyrant Neptune and SKD Starving Venom being able to make a 6k Towers that can burn you for 5k each turn or straight up FTK you respectfully, both cards are banned now because of it.
Actually did miss that, mistake on my part, been so long I honestly forgot the correlation between Neptune and independent nightingale. Pinning this so other ppl can see, appreciate you!
@@sleepyygo really respect how you handled this. Thank you for being honest and humble gained a new sub. My kinda guy Just getting back in to yugioh and the history of it is really something I find interesting Peace brother Alex from Scotland 🏴
This channel is gonna explode. Obviously it will be limited because it's YGO. But this should grow to one of the largest YGOTubers. I'm rooting for ya dawg! You make great content.
Great vid for a great set. Most Yugioh retrospective on yt usually focus on dm Era so seeing insight on the Arc-V period was great for a lapse fan like me. Keep up the good work.
The whole sequence of the 4 core sets from The Dark Illusion to Maximum Crisis was just an onslaught of banger sets time after time we even got great side sets like Fusion Enforcers or the Duelist Saga box
Think the only thing that can compare to this "set run" was the transition from GX into 5Ds. Phantom darkness, light of destruction, and the Duelist Genesis. Those back-to-back sets resulted in the first (well documented) tier zero format.
Oh god I forgot just how much good stuff was released in that set. I definitely think it is one of the greatest sets ever, not only because of all of the great cards, but also because yugioh after the release of Ash Blossom just feels like a different game. It feels like it was the start of "the handtrap-era" of Yugioh, in which every card could get negated at any moment. Maybe a bit of a hyperbole, but Ash really changed the game as it was able to interact with sooooo many cards, that previouly just had no counters. Do have a bit of a love/hate relation with this sets on the one hand so many unfun cards were released in it (True Draco, Zexal, Calamaties...) and it caused one of the worst metas ever IMO. But on the other so much fun en greeaat rogue support. Anyways GREAT video! I really enjoyed it. I hope you keep going with this series, I'm a sucker for Yugioh history.
I'm so glad you liked it! The reception has been p good so I'm excited to keep making these! And yeah I know what you mean when you say that the game feels different, there was certainly a progression, from the coverage of stuff like crow>veiler>ogre>ash and it seems like they kinda just kept rolling with it, ash was more or less the last straw that broke us into what is the modern game of yugioh. Def a reason in of itself for this set to be marked as one of the most important.
I loved this set because of Zarc. Of course there’s ash and true draco’s. I miss cards that turbo out Zarc is astrograph graph. Pendulum support was amazing!!!
god this makes me so nostalgic, i remember going (holy shit it was 4 years ago it feels like yesterday) to walmart when i had no idea how to play ygo and buying individual packs. I pulled an unending knightmare so a secrets cool ig
I feel this sm! Maximum crisis feels so recent but looking back I hadn’t even really started playing competitive at that point either. Side note even tho its not the best card unending nightmare has such a pretty secret rare, sick pull tbh
Couldn't agree more, such an insane and meta defining set. And even though it was released mid 2017, you could still call it an abslolute banger if it would be released nowadays. Just so many cards that are still in peoples mouths or are even played 'til this day. I mean, stuff like Zoo is literally, even after soo many hits and all this time, still meta relevant. Truely one of the best sets ever created, no doubt. Really looking forward to this new series and to maybe even learn about some stuff what went down in time :D Edit: I still think tho, nothing really comes close to DUEA, with forming an entire Format that people still like to play in, becuase of it's variety. But MACR is definitely somewhere up there as well.
Zoo STILL being relevant is wild and honestly probably something worth mentioning, bc of macr and chakanine the core has been able to survive past a drident ban. Such an insane set for sure. And hell yeah! I’ll be happy to make more stuff like this ❤️
Duelist Alliance, Diagram, Master Peace and Ultra Poly:( But I was kinda prepared for the format that came after the Zoo Slaughter list when it was Pend mag vs True Draco format. It wasn’t bad thanks to the format after that list.
I think it's one of the most sticky sets ever (cards that were released here are universally good even if not absolutely busted and will continue to see play for a long, long time) but I don't think it holds a candle regarding immediate impact to sets like Invasion of Chaos, Cybernetic Revolution, Phantom Darkness, The Duelist Genesis or The Duelist Alliance.
You’re absolutely right that it doesn’t compete in terms of immediate impact with stuff like IOC or PTDN, real question is, is immediate impact or quality over time how sets should be categorized in terms of the ‘best’
@@sleepyygo yeah, that's why I hate the worst "Top X sets of all time" stuff. Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy was obviously busted at the time, but how many of those cards do we play today? Phantom Darkness is a very interesting set because the cards that had immediate impact and the cards that had staying power were completely different. Superpoly was bad on release and Armageddon Knight was not really played a whole lot. If you went back in time to 2008 and tell someone the only PTDN card that's currently banned in 2021 is Samsara Lotus people would laugh at you lmao
@@diamonddudeygo yeah the criteria in which you judge sets definitely can make their ‘quality’ vary drastically. For this type of content I’d like to analyze by competitive relevance over Time and immediate, but There are tons of different ways in which to look at it all
I mean, the immediate impact of MACR was HUGE, its easy to forget that RATE format was actually REALLY diverse with at least 10 YCS viable decks and another 10 or so more that consistently did well at the regional level. The release of MACR turned this really diverse format into a 2 deck format, a format that would last into MR4 until the banlist that killed it, at which point Pendulum would pick up as the best deck for a brief time, a deck playing cards like Duelist Alliance. This short interval format would be ended by the rising of Spyral, a deck that would not have been anywhere near as powerful as it was without cards like Spyral Sleeper, Last Resort, and Rescue which they received in MACR. Spyral would also utilize Sylvan Princessprite, which was also from MACR. Once the emergency banlist dropped and Spyral was put in check, the format would continue as a 3 deck format, 2 of those decks being Spyral and Pendulum, both heavily relying on their MACR support. Once Spyral was finally killed by the banlist, the next format would be a 2 deck format, dominated by Pendulum Magicians and True Draco. It is not until the 200th Ycs in June of 2018 that we would finally see a format that was not dominated by MACR. Macr had an extremely format warping debut and would keep a strangle hold on the meta for over a year. The number of other sets that had an immediate impact half as large as MACR are countable on your fingers

Cyberdark Impact for memes.
Invasion of Chaos for the real OGs.
Duelist Alliance for Trif.
