I had a good man. He rebuilt me with love. I was a broken wounded divorcee when we married. He loved the Lord and he loved me and my children. At first, he had to grow up, but when he did he was pure love, faithfulness, forgiveness, understanding, giving, laughing, joy, support, a best friend, and a rock. We were married 41 years. He is in heaven now. But I had the gold. I used to say, I feel sorry for any woman not married to John.

It took a lot of patience and selflessness from my husband to build an environment I felt safe enough in to soften up and be the wife I am today. Edit: that patience and selfless love ended up also being a mirror for me to see my poor behavior towards my husband and even my daughter. Where once my behaviors/reactions felt justified, they became unwarranted offenses piled onto my family that I had to take responsibility for and change.
